    Ace Ventura When Nature Calls is the first movie that made me legit double over with laughter the first time I saw it. The second being The Original Kings of Comedy. The rate at which the comedy comes in 'Nature' remains unmatched for that style of one-man adventure flick

    Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Much better than the first one which was mediocre. And The American President is incredible. Best thing that Aaron Sorkin has written although I haven only seen 1 episode of The West Wing and it was in the final season which I believe he had nothing to do with.

      First Ace Ventura is the classic that broke him in to the mainstream and i still enjoy that one , but I never liked when nature calls.
      It's probably the only 90's Jim Carrey movie I flat out don't find funny at all.

      Their criticism of the Ace Ventura franchise only shows their childish ignorance and inability to see their own flaws as reviewers. They complain about both films and Carrey for doing a sequel, yet quote the tremendous success of these films have had. Are they actually telling the millions of us that we’re wrong for thinking it’s funny? Why didn’t they admit they just don’t get it?

    Olivia dABO was on a hot streak in 1994-95. First Greedy a screwball comedy with Kirk Douglas Yescthe Kirk Douglas and Michael JFox Ed Begley JR,then 2) The Last Good Time a serious Drama with Armin Mueller Stahl and Naureen Stapleton then my favorite of these three films Kicking and Screaming!!! If Annette Bennington was luminous then Olivia DABO was super luminous in Kicking and Screaming!!Heartbeakingly beautiful and lovely Olivia can do a much better American accent than most of her British contemporaries. Bob Hoskins ,Albert Finney and Michael Caine. No I’m not Olivia s agent ,but it’s a damn shame the suits in Hollywood could never see,what all of us see how incredibly talented she is. And almost 30 years later she is still at it plugging away at her craft.

    The American President was a good film, but I think Siskel and Ebert are overly enthusiastic about it here, as an apology to Rob Reiner because of both of their unanimous hatred for his previous film North. They both thought Reiner was a good director, which he is, so it would only seem fair to praise his next film since especially Ebert tore North to shreds. They both gave TAP 4 stars while both giving North zero. TAP is good, but I don't think it's as outstanding as they claimed. I would probably give it 3 stars and considering North was a zero stars film that would still be very complimentary to Reiner.

      Me too, it's good but not that great. For me it's special because it was the movie that revealed to me the formula of romance movies having an unlikely couple that have good times, then get pissed at each other and have to fix it again by the end, such a common formula.

    Funny how they talk about what a smashing success the first Ace Ventura movie was, but complain about Carrey reprising the role into another success. Why don’t they just admit they don’t get it? Are millions of people wrong for liking it? Perhaps they need to take a look at themselves, instead of talking about what a stupid film they think it is.

    • @sha11235
      @sha11235 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't like Ace either. And my cousin did the score for the first one. The problem is him trying to be funny. Compare him to Leslie Nielsen in Naked Gun, which my cousin also scored, and you'll see why it's better and funnier.

    • @NemeanLion-
      @NemeanLion- 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sha11235 I don’t think you get it.
      Naked Gun is simply a better directed movie, by someone who had a great deal of experience directing comedies. Leslie Nielsen is playing the role straight. He doesn’t need to be funny because the material is funny and his seriousness in these types of roles is what makes his characters hilarious. Nielsen is a legend and downplayed his roles perfectly, but he’s not in Jim Carrey’s league when it comes to being genuinely funny. Whenever Nielsen tries to act funny, he overacts and it looks silly. Jim can literally take a bad film and carry the whole damn thing on his shoulders singlehanded. Ace Ventura would’ve been a disaster if Carrey wasn’t there.

    Siskel was dead on here. Ace Ventura 2 was just Carrey with no one to take the journey with. Despite a couple classic scenes the movie is bad.

    it is absolutely hilarious to me that _Clerks_ originally ended - and in some versions still DOES end - with the guy simply getting quickly shot. what were they thinking?
    for one, Kevin Smith absolutely doesn't have the staging chops for such a violent scene to be taken at all seriously.
    and for two, _what the _*_hell_*_ were they thinking???_ what, the same wacky comedy with dead-guy boner/necrophilia gags ends with some rando walking in to shoot our plucky hero?
    yeah, okay. whatever. you know, i'm just not a fan of Kevin Smith's work. so i guess i Just Don't Get It. my bad.

    'The Remains of The Day' is a far superior movie to 'Carrington'. It makes sense that these two ivory tower critics (much as I love both Roger and Gene) find more in common with the effete intellectuals in this movie, as opposed to the normal, stuffy, repressed characters in 'Remains'. One is a movie for people who value their smug genius so so much, and the other.. is for normal people. :-)
