It is funny when you first see Ralf, after just hearing him, you don't expect this big muscly German (like Till) to have that voice coming out of him. I love their song 'Armageddon', so damn catchy, and they fully lean into the cheese in the video. Vocal coach/reactor Beth Roars interviewed Ralf on her channel a couple of years ago - she wanted lessons from him.

Primal Fear is the band we got in the late 90s (1997 to be exact) when the vocalist, Ralf Scheepers, did not get the gig with Judas Priest after Rob Halford left after the Painkiller Tour. So he said "Fuck it, I'll start my own Judas Priest-like band and show y'all how to do it right from the start." He probably didn't really say that, but he might as well had, because Primal Fear has been putting out better Judas Priest music for 25 years now than Priest ever did. I say that because their music started with the post-Painkiller vibe and has never let up. As of 2020, they have released 13 studio albums, and each one just keeps getting better. There's maybe one or two that aren't improvements over the last, but they all have some great songs on them. Ralf was originally a member of the power metal band, Gamma Ray, before auditiining for Priest. I originally got into the band in 2005 after the release of their 6th album "Seven Seals" and immediately collected all their back catalog. My favorite early album is probably their 2002 release, "Black Sun" because it feels more like Painkiller than anything else from that period in the band. The previous album, 2000's "Nuclear Fire" is pretty close, but I think Black Sun is a slightly better album. For some of their newer stuff, 2014's "Delivering the Black" and 2016's "Rulebreaker" are right up there. In fact, thIs very track, "The End is Near" came off the Rulebreaker album. Unfortunately I see that several of their a CDs are no longer available. Which is why I like to try to keep up with new releases as much as I can for any band I collect, because you never know when older albums go OOP. But anyway...
Classic power metal. Nothing original but perfectly executed. And also a bit boring... even though I loved power metal 20-30 years ago. Ralf has a great voice though.
I love Ralf Scherper's voice. By the way: He is also a voice coach and does everything to not ruin his vocal chords.
