  • Wooo woo we got our Corona Wagon started, now it's time to get it moving under it's own power! As a project car this is actually pretty typical, someone previously couldn't get it running... so they let it sit for years. Insert Lucore Automotive, we'll get it fixed right up!
What you see here is a gorgeous unrestored 1980 Toyota Corona Wagon, and it's the Luxury Edition! Under the hood is the tried and true simple 20R 2.2 liter 4 cylinder carbonated motor that contributed to the legendary Toyota reliability of the 80s and 90s.
This particular car, as you hopefully saw in the intro video was left sitting for a number of years at another shop unable to run. With a battery, and a bit of fuel she fired up coughing a cloud of black smoke but REFUSED to stay running. Now, as mechanics, we know there are a few basic things to try and we begin with why it's not getting fuel. As you'll see, we didn't have to go much further than Step 1 in this case!
So, with a new mechanical fuel pump PROPERLY installed, new lines to replace the cracked rubber lines, and a fresh tank of fuel, she's rumbling to life! Not exactly purring like a kitten, but we'll save THAT for another future episode.
We hope you enjoy this video, we are just a small automotive repair shop outside of the Columbus / Dublin Ohio metro area. In business for nearly 2 decades we pride ourselves not only on fixing the usual daily drivers and work trucks but also the interesting rides and project cars / trucks of our customers. We recognize the importance of small business marketing, so these videos give you all a little peak behind the scenes of what we do!
Thanks as always to our friends, families, fans, supporters, and subscribers who help keep our doors open and keep us motivated. Without you all behind us, we would just be a little group of car addicts collecting old junk and wasting money to entertain ourselves!
What do YOU think we should do with this Toyota Wagon now that it's running again? Get it prepped for an engine swap? Drive it in "classic form"? Sell it off to some lucky soul who's been dying to relive the 80s wagon glory days? Let us know in the comments below!

I had sn 80 identical to that. Fuel pumps and carb were horrible once they had to be worked on. Car never started the same in warm or cold starts. Depending the mood of the car ya just tapped the gas, pressed it halfway or didn't touch it to start it lol. Best car I ever owned!

That is a cool old wagon. I purchased a new Lux lift back Corona in 1979. Love that year of front grille the best. You guy's are cool. I'm in Indy. Come to Ohio often in the summer months, Athens mostly. Might just stop by your shop one day. I think either upgrade to Toy six or turbo that 20R would work for me. That wagon with some tires&wheels, tuned suspension, would be awesome!

In order to make an internal combustion motor run, you need 3 basic things. Air / Fuel / Spark. If it's not running, check to see which of these things you are missing and start with the basics! It's not always something complicated or expensive, sometimes it's something simple or an "oopsie" someone made previously. We hope you enjoy the video!

That thing runs like a new one almost. And I love the fact that it's a wagon and the color 😏👍🤓

She's getting better! Still working through some decade old fluids getting those cycled out of the system, she's also in need of some carb and valve adjustments but overall NOT BAD!
We LOVE wagons here, honestly that's pretty much the only reason we got this thing. Because beige wagons are COOL!

All I know it went to a junkyard and all it needed was a radiator fan and a coil wire. We junked two cars that day one of the cars was in the junkyard the other one the corona wasn't when I went to look for two weeks later I was only 12. My mom sold them for $25 a peace. My uncle had stole the coil wire off the 22R because he wanted the motor for 87 Toyota pickup he was being sneaky 🙄. I tried to save the Corona but I couldn't get it to crack to save my life and I didn't know about cars then. If it's around I'm sure I will find it I hope 😁👍🤓. I remember my auntie being very angry because she gave us the car 👩‍🏫

@@TheOne-ex8cs maybe see if you can trace down a VIN number and start working backwards from that? Sad to say, MANY of these poor cars perished in the 80s and 90s.

@@SMITTYXCOREISHXC That should make for a pretty fun little tossable car without really breaking the bank! We definitely aren't going V8 with this thing, LS swapping everything isn't typically our way of doing things. This WILL remain Toyota powered just not sure entirely if we are sticking 4cyl Toyota or going I6 Toyota powered..
But any way we do this it's going to be a whole different experience for the mild mannered grocery getter it was born to be.

It's an auto and at this point other than some horribly done "lowering springs" pretty much as stock and original as could be. HOWEVER, as you can tell if you watch any videos on our channel... leaving things stock is kind of hard for us to do!
So, we'll see what the future holds for it ;)
