4.6 4V Cobra Powered Nightmare Lincoln MKVIII refuses to go home! Transmission noises? Go Home!!

  • Sometimes a project plays nice. Sometimes a project doesn't play so nice. Sometimes a project becomes and absolute NIGHTMARE and not only refuses to go back together, but refuses to stay together and just go home! Guess which one is Craig's 1995 Lincoln MVIII?
For those who aren't up on this project, a quick refresh. What we have here is a 95 Lincoln MKVIII the LSC stands for Lincoln Sport Coupe... Not Super Coupe... for all you purists out there. Anyways, originally it came packing a 4.6 4v Teksid block DOHC V8 a pretty trick motor for the time and something most people have no idea is hiding under the long sloping lines of a Lincoln hood. Well THAT motor unfortunately died a knocky knocky death so a new motor was sourced, this one coming out of a 1996 Ford Mustang Cobra. Both motors shared much of their DNA and essentially are drop in replacements for each other, with a few minor exceptions.
We have been battling this project for a long long time and are desperate to see it go however she wanted one more round of issue fixing before saying goodbye.
Huge thanks as always to all our subscribers, followers, fans, and customers who have made our business successful and gotten our channel to where it is today. Special thanks to the SRC / Street Racing Channel / SRC Garage / Old Man's Garage / Junkyard Digs folks for showing such amazing support for us over the past several months. Without all of you we wouldn't be anywhere near where we are today. We hope you enjoy this one!

Had the same issue on an 88' E150 once after having the bellhousing welded due to it cracking. Not sure if the cracking caused some kind of deformation in the spacer or what, but the end result was a god awful scraping noise once the AOD was reinstalled. It took somewhere between 8 and 10 attempts to get the spacer corrected for the noise to go away, and yes that means we had to reinstall and remove the AOD every one of those attempts, without the benefit of a lift. My friend and I got really good at it though, being able to do a removal or reinstall in about 10 minutes by the end.

Thanks Ray we really appreciate that! A lot of these projects are just a matter of not giving up, researching the problem(s) and tackling them one bit at a time. Sometimes ... there are lots of bits. We are certainly not afraid to show our faults and mistakes, we are humans too, and we'll admit to goofs or bonehead moves. Unfortunately in our industry honesty is a bit of a forgotten trait for man, a BIG part of why we film and share all this is for our customers to see the processes and challenges of their projects.
Glad you enjoy what we do and we very much appreciate the continued support!
