  • It's been a long time coming but it's finally time to turn the key and listen to this JDM powered kitten purr! Over the last year and a half we have been grinding away on getting this project car completed and it's finally time for the first start and a little drive!
For those not familiar with this build, we started with a 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo originally powered by a 7M-GTE mated to a 5 speed manual R154 transmission. At some point in its previous ownership the 7M was removed and replaced by an imported JDM Aristo motor, a 2JZ-GTE but not the same as we saw in the USDM so, for ease of future servicing, there was a LOT of converting and customizing done. Nearly everything on this car has been replaced/modified/upgraded.
KMC wheels, Toyo Tires, Tein Coil overs, Brembo brakes from a Mercedes, pads and rotors from Powerstop and Stoptech, fuel system and upgraded stock twin turbos from Driftmotion, a custom intercooler setup, the list goes on and on. We built this car as a street driving fun car, kind of a "what if" had the 3rd generation of the Supra been built today with a legendary heart of the 4th generation. Because of all this work, it has been a LONG time coming but... she's alive!
We had our good friend Eric from CIA Performance stop by to load a base tune on the AEM Infinity ECU and monitor the initial run time. All seems in order, no major leaks, no bad noises from the motor. After a few days of shake down and testing we fired it up and made the journey across town to their shop where it awaits REAL tuning! To say everyone involved in this project is excited is an understatement. This thing has been a long involved stressful and difficult journey but hearing it fire up for the first time and making those first drives, it's been so SO worth it!
Lucore Automotive is a small independent american small business located just outside Columbus Ohio. While we are a full service shop that maintains and repairs countless daily drivers we are also well known for our work on classics, race cars, and collector cars.
We would like to thank all of our friends, fans, follower, supporters, subscribers, and most importantly customers for being here with us! Without the wonderful people who let us work on their toys, and help their dreams come true we wouldn't be in business!

What a process this has been! So many hours, so many hurdles to overcome, all to hear that sweet sweet sound of the healthy 2JZ-GTE firing up! For all of you who have followed along and paid attention on this build, thank you so much! She'll be ready for fun car season, as soon as fun car season starts!

Thank you ! It's been a long crazy process getting this thing running driving turning and stopping and no doubt there are some hidden headaches ahead but, we are pretty happy so far! A nice mix of 80s, 90s, and today :)
Stay tuned, lots more to come of this project!

Awesome!! Did the 2jz swap into the mkiii include hammering out the engine bay?

You guys have any opinions on doing a 1JZ swap in this year of Supra over the 2JZ? I hear it's cheaper and (maybe) simpler to do just do a 1JZ. Just considering what makes the most sense.

I just recently got a full set of gauges using a Powertune digital dash so I haven't been able to answer this question till now. On the freeway it likes to sit at about 200. 220 for me would be very hot. These things do get super hot so keep an eye on that

@@Driversnetwork101 Got rid of the first electric fan last month and picked up a 3000 CFM flexalite 16 inch fan with the wave blades. Seems to be doing the trick keeping it cool. The last one wasn't cutting it over 95 degrees air temp
