    Thanks for your video, very informative. I came to it because I'm a Toronto, Ontario 72 year old senior who now has moderately severe hearing loss from
    1.) possibly age but
    2.) definitely noise.
    Therefore, I'm trying to learn something about the huge multitude of vehicles that pass in front of my senior's building 24/7. Now I know a little bit about the difference between a truck and a trailer. I think I could have been a happy long haul trucker as I like my own company, listening to music, eating down home meals and a desire to travel. Maybe you could do a video on the day in the life of a trucker &/or interview a woman trucker. Please keep safe on the road. Trust you work for a responsible employer who provides you with adequate benefits.

    The underside of the trailer connected to the kingpin is called the apron.
    The top of the fifth wheel is called the skid plate.
    The part of the kingpin that the locking jaws connect around is the shank.

    I am trying for my Class A permit soon. I had my class A’s back in late 70’s-89 and let them expire. But things have really changed since then. 😳 Especially a lot more devices and regulations on the equipment. Thanks for the video again. Needed this.

  • @tomgiblin2083

    Amazing that the “little” King Pin can hold all that load, connecting the trailer to the tractor.
    How is it attached to the trailer.
    BTW Great video

      Tom Giblin it’s crazy too when you see these super truckers wreck and flip over and the kingpin stays locked in place after all of that violent torsion!

    Now that was a good, very informative video. Good job! It would have been great had you made a series of these informative videos. Being as you haven't posted since November of 2019, are you still with Knight and is your driver code still valid? Trucking is a dynamic industry. As posts become dated, it's good to update from time to time.

    • @gibbytube
      @gibbytube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! I’m no longer with Knight; I’ve actually gone into driving semis in the food service delivery world. I plan on making more videos now that life has calmed down somewhat this past year. Thanks for the support!

    what's the size of the king pin? here in western Australia its 3.5 inches I think Victoria still uses 2.5 king pins on their trailers if they come over here with trucks that set up for 3.5 king pins have to put collars on the Victorian trailers

    • @tx1999
      @tx1999 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      depends on the trailer, most of them are 3.5 but also 2

    Ok, dumb question here, but my son is into transformers right now and one turns into a semi. And he has these big silver pipes like what come up from the back of a semi cab and I cannot find anywhere the proper name for it. What is that called?

    What's your opinion on workout for Knight, I'm considering thier CDL school?

    • @gibbytube
      @gibbytube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I highly recommend them! As someone who started their trucking career without ANY experience, (I never even sat in a semi, prior!) I feel they were the best way to get your foot in the door. One thing to keep in mind (and I can’t stress enough) is that their school DOES NOT TEACH YOU HOW TO BE A TRUCK DRIVER. It teaches you how to pass the test and get your license. You’ll learn the actual truck driving stuff like backing into docks, etc. during your 30 days of training with a trainer once you finish the school. As a person who tries to get the maximum amount of money from their paycheck, I don’t think Knight is great for the long-term as there are hundreds of other companies out there that pay more (hence I make $130k+/year driving with Gordon Food Service now) but- again- I would recommend them 1,000 times over for newbies getting into the career. They have plenty of big terminals to get you comfortable with parking when you’re on your own, and they keep you running enough to not make you broke, but also don’t kill you with 24/7 trucking lol (you’ll have plenty of downtime to make it fun).
