  • In a near-future world, where individuals have their memories downloaded for backup, a man awakes in a body that is not his own.

    More About Restoration:
    In the near future, a company offers individuals the service of having their memories downloaded "for backup". So, in the event of death, those memories can be uploaded into a new body. After a routine backup, Oliver Klein wakes to find his memories restored into a body that is not his own. Trapped in a foreign body with its own 'muscle memory', Oliver discovers that he is capable of doing things the original Oliver never could and never would. Oliver must find a way to reconnect with his family and his life, while coming face-to-face with the truth that he is no longer the only Oliver Klein.

    That was absolutely a masterful shot of the "Jerry" putting the glasses on and seeing a blurry face in the mirror and his actually head in focus. Bravo to all of the crew that produced that masterful shot.

    i dont understand why Oliver in Gavin's body acted so irrationally. he even killed himslef. hoping what? He could have just allowed Emma to restore Gavin back and life goes on. His insisting on continuing to live on doesnt make sense.

    This was just fantastic. I love how they put these details in that you needed to pay attention to to understand what's happening. It's all there you just have to really watch it. They didn't get into how the clones are made but that's not what this is about so I didn't feel that was necessary. Conceptually amazing and I loved watching it as a whole film. Ohhh I wish DUST would do this more often. I loved it. Everyday a new part to the series was just long enough to wait.. keeping the suspense going. ♥

    Scenario: The husband has been through a traumatic death and back again and now in a different, though younger body tries to cuddle with his wife in bed as he is also getting used to himself in his new body.
    Wife, who un-snuggles away from husband: "I'm sorry....you don't smell right", and turns away.
    If that wasn't a picture perfect expression on his face, I don't know what was. That was definitely the best "wtf" face I have ever seen.

    Wow, this was really well done. All elements: acting, directing, editing, etc., and the writing was good, too, which is often a weakness with these short films. I found this one to be really impressive all around. In fact, my one bit of constructive criticism would be that the moment near the end when he's driving in the car with Emma, and he puts a cigarette in his mouth...I found that moment to be a bit awkward/clumsy in terms of storytelling. I think that could have been removed. It would even have made it more powerful when he smokes the cig later in the shipping container. But that's just my take. I also think that there could have been a couple flash moments before this showing that the "host" body/personality was sort of bleeding into this new version, which might have made the end when he snaps at his family even more tragic and powerful. The blend of their faces in the piano was really well done, and haunting, which I think was the intention. Anyway, I am disappointed to see so much almost hostile criticism. I think this was really good work, and I hope that the filmmakers get a chance to do more projects and hone their craft even further.

    • @stuwillis
      @stuwillis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching it and for your constructive criticism (in hindsight I agree about the beat in the car).
      If you are willing, are you happy to go leave an honest review on IMDB? It seems the "hostile critics" (of which aren't that mean 964 vs 40 downvotes) are the ones who run off to IMDB to complain.

Why does he goes bonkers? Rather than leaving things for the audience to think about, it instead just doesn't tell a coherent story. I tried googling it in the hopes that someone would explain it (since the plot doesn't really make any sense), but alas I couldn't find anything. ..."
    Now i don;t feel so thick. LOL!!!!
    The bit that should say what has happened, where Ollie looks loks into the morror and suddenly bounces back against the wall as Gavin, should tell the tale. I instead it left me WTF?

    The fact that dude erased his memory to hide something… well that was a big hook. I am sure it leaves people disappointed to never find out what happened.
    Sure we get it ; he probably was a violent fucker who killed someone and rewound himself to hide it…
    That is just hints though.
    The way the story flowed we are almost led to believe that it is a critical story component!

  • @alexandersimpson3638
    @alexandersimpson3638 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I love science fiction, especially reading it.
    Stephen king however is the true master of short stories.. The challenge being that every word must count, you can't afford any waste whatsoever. Stephen has wrote many long books, but when push comes to shove its the invariably constraints that a short story provides he truly loves.
    I imagine it's the same in movies , most being 90-120 minutes long. But something like the twilight zone, you had 30 ish minutes to condense a movie or story to its bare bones.
    I've read many trilogy's and more and love them all but the true art is in creating more in less words.

    Amazing series / movie, thank you for sharing! Great acting and plot. I've missed a bit of showing what happened with Gavin, although I guess things went as planned..otherwise there would be a cut that shows the guy waking up and having some memories of Mr. Klein :D
    Camera work, angles, coloring, mood, music, sound effects: all top and lets the watcher immerse in the experience!

    So the Oliver in Gavin's body, refused to be over-written (or reset) *but* he kidnapped the lab tech's daughter just to force her to overwrite him... with files of his memories sprinkled-in?

    Loved it but I don’t understand- WHY did the tech put him in the other guys body? (Other than she was paid to do it) Did they know he would eventually force her to merge back into himself? Did they want a more aggressive guy?

    • @besenyeim
      @besenyeim 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She wasn't supposed to do that. The guy wanted to forget something by uploading an earlier backup of himself, the tech messed it up.
      You may think there was a safeguard or a policy against it, but the story would be much shorter and more boring.

    Let me get this straight, Oliver Klein has his original consciousness switched into a different body, Gavin Worth. Worth kills the original body of Klein. The company downloaded backup copy of Klein's memories and personality into new cloned body? It's totally weirdest thing ever conceived.
