Shot my first bow buck yesterday, decent 8 point, saw him walking away and decided to give him a rattle, not a lot, just enough to get his attention, he walked right in. Never rattled in a deer before it was awesome!

Congrats! It doesn't work all the time, but when it does, it's the coolest thing. Like calling in a big gobbler when turkey hunting.

Happy for yky. That is so cool. I rattled one in last year for the first time and was enthralled.

5 days in a new area of Missouri for me. Rattled in 3 bucks, but like Jeff said, they were younger, smaller bucks. Had 1 shooter come in but he hung up. Grunted at him and didn’t influence him. Finally snort wheezed at him and he took off. Looked like a buck that would respond to it but he didn’t want any part of it. Should have been more patient. Hung around that area too long after because I was getting some action. Should have moved sooner. The last night I had moved and had a large buck walk into the field edge right at dusk just as I had lowered my bow to ground. Ran out of time but learned a lot. Hard not to 2nd guess yourself but need to look at it as a constant learning process.

Just think of the man hours spent on strategic approaches to deer hunting.
      Man, it's an awesome ride!
      I love it!
I've been passing on a lot of good deer, waiting on a bigger than average buck.
I don't mind too much to eat a buck tag , I see some big ones here and there, so it'll work out in the long run.
Good luck to you this year.

Ive had 1-2 farms were calling worked. I rattled in a 150” one time from 300-400 yds away. Watched him come across a bean field. He came into bow range and he was facing me. 30yds away and my wind swirled and he was gone. It was still awsome tho

Hey Jeff, maybe one of these days could you do a video of an actual rut period layout with specific dates? Like "pre-rut is usually 10/24-11/1" and so on. Obviously I realize the dates might vary a little but that would be so helpful for reference. Maybe you've already done one and I'm missing it but I think a video like that would be great 👍🏼

I would love to see. More what if videos. For example what to do if:
    - bumped a deer (non target/ doe or unseen) , if it snorts? If it just bounds out
    - when and when not to grunt at a buck just leaving its bedding area
    - bump your target deer
As we all hunt we try to plan each and every move, unfortunately sometimes we are forced to deviate from the plan. Wondering how you adapt in those situations (I’m sure I’m missing many) when things don’t go as planned. Had bullet point 2 happen to me late October and didn’t grunt at my target soon enough and he slipped away. Thanks for the great videos

Hi Jeff. Great video content and I love watching them all. Was wondering what you do to cover your scent. This past weekend I had encountered a several bucks coming close to me but the wind was swirling and they got wind of me. They came as close as 30 yards chasing does and almost had a good shot but he never turned broadside. I’ve been using fresh earth scent wafers in a closed container for my clothes but seems like it’s not working. Any suggestions for scent cover? I also shower with “no scent” soap and shampoo before each hunt. Thanks for any tips I greatly appreciate it!

I use 120 - 130 class antlers and have great success from mid October until the end of November. Ive rattled in hundreds upon hundreds of bucks and many guys for whatever reason can’t make it work 🤷‍♂️ I never break branches and scurry around. Just rattle, sometimes I grunt a bit before hand and maybe even snort wheeze. But I never try to kill the antlers. I think many times guys set up wrong. If the time isn’t exactly right, they have to feel comfortable coming in.

#5 sticks with me. It seems to make sense for a lot of reasons. Just my thoughts, for me and my situation. We don't have a lot of deer let alone bucks, let alone big mature bucks. Predation, overhunting, and long tough winters take a toll. Michigan is overhunted, seasons are too long, too many buck tags, and too many variations of tags. Michigan wants deer hunting to go away and go to more of an Eco-Friendly hands-off conservation. Just look, no hunting, trapping, or fishing.

hey yall, i have a question... I hunt in middle of Michigan specifically Saginaw/Gratiot Counties some state land and some public land. My issue is I saw a lot of deer in early season but since Oct. 17th, I have not seen anything. I have blind called, rattled lightly to even the aggressive like the latter, and have not seen a single deer, not even a doe. But then I check my trail cams and their on there sparingly. How do I get them to come during days I'm hunting, I use hunt wise(when it wants to work), and still nothing. So the frustration sets in pretty fast. How do you all stay motivated, thru out the season after opening day or the day after? Its frustrating eating tag soup for the last 20 years. I have never killed a deer, i use all the tactics JS uses and I have yet to capitalize on anything. Maybe I just suck at hunting. lol

You probably ain't any good at hunting... The "1st or 2nd day" after Opening season.... Relax, enjoy the Hunt... Spend more time Scouting and figuring it... Not just Hunting... Good luck. Keep watching WHS, he helps ALOT.

I've seen rattling bring nothing much more than something. That being said, I don't rattle much simply because I don't like dragging them with me. Used a rattle bag as well, and just don't think it sounds as natural. Total tossup for many of us.

I Rattled in a Buck last week and a half ago.Mature Buck in an extremely pressured area.Day time hunters night time hunters.lots of pressure. So i did some blind calling and rattling. Big ole mature 10 point 4x6.came over to nozy.He disnt come straight in he circled down wind to get a whiff before commiting to my noise.was evening only reason i knew he was there i smelled him.Same thing happened with Mature Moose thay have experience with hunting pressure.they use their nose.Well anyways week later same spot late morning 9:30 near.im on my way to change my Batreries on my cam.huess who shows up.Big ole Buck again. His trailing a Doe nose to the ground.I have him in my sights.Darn trees and shrubs in the way to male a responsible shot.i Doe bleat with my voice and nothing he wont stop moving so i Buck grunt loud.Darn he still wont stop.(Frigg)...then i Buck wheeze.still nothing.Lmao he just kept going. He wasnt gonna miss his wedding.only Doe in 3 square miles.but better than wounding him and coyotes and crows end up eating him.move over to mt other spot not too too farcaway where another lonely Doe is.got my trail cams on her also nothing chasing her yet.he will be there .just hope he stops thisx time if he gives me another chance.

Shortly after the 2nd fight, a small 8 pointer chased a doe into some brush near me and he did everything he could to keep her in that area. It was a lot of fun to watch!
