I’m 43 drank my life away for 30+ years got sober and just starting out though I’m determined to learn how to deer hunt I’m lost so your videos are very helpful
Better late than never. I've been sober over 10 years now, the best decision I ever made. Best of luck to u. There is so much great info out there. Best advice I have is to use the wind, good acces point, and enjoy the outdoors. It will give u the best high of your life.
Recently found this channel. Wish I found it years ago. One of the few hunting channels on TH-cam with fantastic knowledge and isn’t trying to sell me a product the whole video.
We used a rope scrapes for 4 years. Switched to vines last year after watching one of your older videos. Cut vines green used Zero commercial scents. We had more bucks visit the vines last 12 months than the last 4 years combined! I can't confirm with scientific data but have observed the bucks are way more aggressive with the vertical vine! Seems like the bucks like the sound of their antlers banging the vine. Almost like they are trying to dominate it. Thanks Jeff.
Vine scrapes are fantastic.free costs you nothing.thanks jeff.best deer attracter out there.listen to this man I've been following jeff for many years.he will only make you a better hunter.and food plotter
Thanks for all your content and honesty. Just a silly idea, what do you think about a series of how you harvested "x" buck over water hole, scrape and such as a break down hunt. But in your way of explaining it levels deep not the theatrical hunt others do, I appreciate how well your video's are stuffed with information, b roll, honesty and transparency. Long time fan, best to you and your whole crew
I’m sitting here learning that two of the things you said not to do…I did. Love these videos and love becoming a better hunter. I already can’t wait till next year to try some new stuff!
Just went on my first hunt. Been wanting to since I was a kid many years ago. I thought I would do well since I shoot competitive. A lot of this is what I did wrong. I figured some of it out by day 3 and finally got to harvest a couple. Had a blast. Gonna try muzzleloader next month and try not to bust my spots
I've been devouring your videos since I recently acquired a large private portion of some of the best hunting woods in my state. Been a hell of a shift from hunting public my whole life.
Jeff I've been hunting since I've been 12 .. I'm 61 now n Blessed to own 270 acres in western Pennsylvania since 1998 !! As the Lands caretaker lol ..I learn new things every day regarding Whitetails but your Tips n Experience thru success n Failures has helped me greatly !! I've had my best food plots in 20 some years following your advice ! Always took some shortcut!! Thanks for ALL the Great info ! Stay safe Continued Success n God Bless 😎🇺🇸
in my tree stand again western Pennsylvania Lawrence County. Everything you say I listen to. I have two hanging vines and deer hit it religiously I don’t use any sent. I believe the same thing you do actually this morning. I had a real nice eight point buck walk within 40 yards me I miss judged the range and just shot underneath them. Oh well that’s hunting but boy you are right on target this year. Thanks.
I love watching your videos and I believe that your knowledge is top notch. Every time you talk about the wind it confuses me. I hunt in the blue ridge mountains of VA and wind here is insanely hard to predict. Seems that no matter what day it is or how I setup there is always wind changing directions or swirling. If you know about mountain hunting and winds in the mountains I’d love to see a video about it. Most of my big bucks I’ve ever shot have been on extremely calm days with no wind. Usually after the sun comes up and heats the ground up so the thermals are lifting my scent away. Any other time I hunt it seems like the wind is always a disaster and I can’t setup for wind direction. No matter how hard I try it always changes and messes me up. Any information about this would be greatly appreciated.
I have to say this Jeff im 68 been bowhunting since I was 18. In the last number of years I have had the luxury of hunting a funnel between farm fields. I'm telling you my setup was in a southeast corner of that funnel .I do all day sits for the simple reason when the chase faze is on bucks and does came through that funnel all day long I've killed nominal 8 pointers monster 8 pointers a dandy 10 pt and had a absolute monster 6 scent while drawing on him. You can and should hunt all day during the chase period if you can post up in the right spot. Another little hint my stand set up was in a group of 9 maples growing out of one stump almost all of them big enough to hang a stand. I've tricked more deer from that ambush spot than I'll ever tell. Good hunting gentlemen and keep those antlers coming home to your walls.
I hunt half days most of the time. Switch stands mid day try to follow the wind shifts. Doe pee not much although I did use it on a drag line last year walking into stand. Also bought the little gel beads…covered them in doe pee and let them soak it up. Threw the out and around before getting into stand as a cover scent as they dehydrated they gave off odor which actually worked as a cover scents.
Where was this two weeks ago? 😂 I put a camera on a new scrape i found. That night he came in, good buck! He hasn't been back in a week and a half. I watched this, and the first mistake ya covered, Jeff!🤦Time! I'll give him time and keep the camera out of there. Hopefully, he'll be back as the pre-rut comes on soon! If not, definitely in the rut! Live and learn. I even tucked my Reveal back behind some brush🤷 Love your stuff, Jeff! Keep being real, and good luck this season! 🦌Can't wait to see what you and the fam harvest!
I sat in a stands and the wind changes directions 4 times . I believe that this information is great I watch every video but I watched these videos and said to my self if I had 10 different hunting spots or 1 spot with a lot of acres and had different stand set ups I can use this information more , but I would like to see more Videos for guys who don’t have the time to hunt wind or enough stand and hunt small private or public in New York area . But a lot of approach’s about food plots and things you say and do we can’t do in New York on a small public or private everything is different the time of rut and food plots and things like that
Complete waste of time, unfortunately. The most important part of the scrape is actually the licking branch, too. Urine is urine to deer...so you can just pee on it yourself. However, the pre orbital gland scent they leave on the branch distinguishes a deer from every other deer. They also can pick those individual deer from each other, on that branch. Again tho...urine is urine. The scrape itself doesn't matter too much ..it's more generic
I have watched his videos for sometime.i put up few vines for mock scrapes .first morning sit 2 small bucks came in and used them and sparred around the vine.they do work
Me and my friend just started for the first time. We want to hunt from the ground. Went today and where we wanted to set up people had tree stands. Does that mean it is a good area to be in or is it too pressured and we should go elsewhere?
great job on the channel! I have a question I live in northern Québec, I hunt public land and private land... I put a mockScrap in both locations... and deer seem not to care about it.. (it's a vine) is there anyway that deer in northern Quebec are different?
Jeff I have a question for you! I have 10 days to hunt in eastern Oklahoma. Should i wait until that temp drop or still go at the end of Oct even though temps are forcasted to be above normal until the 2nd or 3rd week in Nov? Unless a change happens!
Jeff, as a rookie I appreciate the callouts; I am guilty of everything here except #3 and rope scrapes. For a hunter on a budget, how can I address #2 better? I have a tree saddle and climbing sticks instead of multiple ladder stands as it seemed more flexible at the time, but of course it's fairly heavy as it's a cheaper model and I'm sure I'm making a lot of noise setting it up every morning/afternoon.
I'm new to hunting myself so I wouldn't take anything i say and follow it. But if I was you, it would come down the the acres I'm hunting. If you're hunting like I am and everything is under 10 acres id just leave the stand/set where it is instead of moving it every hunt and making noise. But like I said wtf do ik
I have access to small piece of private that’s in a neighborhood. Land is about 20 acres with the house. When scouting I haven’t seen any old rubs anywhere. But I’ve seen a good amount of doe on the property sitting in the evening. Can I expect them to bring a buck in when the rut comes or probably not?
I Have a question do any type of service where you look at someone’s property via mobile app and mark pens for them that you think they should check out or should ideally put a stand just by looking at topo or looking over property by app? I watch prob all your videos and I don’t think iv ever heard you talk about a service like that. Also if so what would be a price on something like that?
Im doing my opener with an all day sit. Opening day. Perfect wind, temp and i wont hunt this property again for 6 weeks. We are about 3 months from rut here
Don't hang a camera below 10ft near a scrape. If they don't see it. They will smell it or somehow sense it. But don't just walk away from it. Utilize cell cams only. Make your camera settings condusive to being undetected. Dont have it taking too many pics. Set the delay correctly. Dont use multiple pics or burst modes. Throw a climbing stick on a tree. Climb up. Set your camera and get out. This has worked for me in not spooking mature bucks off their scrapes. I've done it all the wrong ways to learn this.
I hear ya, I have messed up every way made! I hung a cam 4 steps high last weekend and I have deer bedding all night in front of it and they have no clue!
You said not to use a camera on a scape but in your videos other videos you have cameras on them. Is it because yours fall under the concealed category? Or am I missing something?
Yes...you missed something, respectfully. I said don't add a trail camera on a fresh scrape that pops up during the season. Nearly every one of my dozens of trail cams in 2 states are on scrapes. Most often added during late Spring or on the scrape 365 😉
New hunter here. Are you saying you peed on the scrape before hanging it?? I went hunting yesterday and had too much morning coffee so I peed in like 4 different bushes including one I saw a buck haha! If I have to go back and check those spots again in a couple days I’m game!
What I like Jeff and his channel is his honesty and the advice he gives works. I have hunted whitetails since I was 12 yrs old and now 70 yrs young still hunting. Each yr I seem to learn at least another thing or two or maybe it's a mistake. But either way I'm learning and I come back here with my notes to improve on those issues. This is hands down the best informational channel out there. NO BS JUST HONEST PROVEN FACTS FOR SUCCESS Keep up with the great feed on here!!!
My biggest mistakes over the years are spending way too much much time on the same stand. I’ve noticed picking 3-4 even 5 spots on my 200-300 acres of private land makes things flow way better.
doe pee is a great cover scent on your clothes . When deer are in the rut , using an estrus spray has given me incredible results . Literally the 2nd/ 3rd time i ever used it , late november , i sprayed it along some oak limbs that were hanging over a fence line near the ground level . A 9’point came over the e fence , and went straight to that branch and rubbed his antlers all in that spray . I am a believer but everyone has different luck / experiences
Jeff, I have been hunting for 3 years now. So when it comes to playing the wind, is there any advice you can give that’s not just “wind in your face”? That’s all I ever hear is you want the wind in your face.. ok, I got that. My issue, is every single time I “play the wind” and the wind is blowing in my face, the deer are playing that wind as well, and ALWAYS come from behind. Any tips on what is going on…… thanks.
Typically when that happens the vine wasn't useD properly, wrong size, wrong spot, etc. but head to head the vine scrape is better overall...after observing 10s of thousands. It's been very black and white...
Get me on Mule and Blacktail, I get them....Whitetail, different story. So I'm a rookie. Wind direction and scents I get, and cover, silent approaches...all makes sense.
Jeff, what do you think about smoking your hunting clothes? I have done it before and does do not seem to freak out when they were down wind of me. I play the wind as much as possible, but thermals are tricky sometimes.
I disagree with #2. We went out and trimmed lanes and adjusted our ladders stands with a chainsaw. That evening we had a great hunt. Just a few hours later from all the noise.
Totally disagree with number #1, obviously don't put a camera directly on the scrape tree itself (not sure if that's what you meant) but putting a camera off to side of a fresh scrape is very effective strategy to getting on a mature deer. Coming from a Michigan hunter that's not no rookie.
Jeff if hunting the wind do you really need to be concerned about how you smell? Like wearing your clothes in the truck or showering with scent free soap. Sure appreciate your time sharing what you have learned.
Not sure if you invented mock scrapes. Think maybe you did. But man there are guys out there using that info for content. Imitation is the best form of flattery I guess

Maybe on the internet😂 not in the real world of hunting!!
Agree…I’ve hunted with him, he’s legit.
He is awesome! We have applied his techniques and they work so well
I don’t know. I bought a Earthway spreader and it’s plastic junk. Bought a solo with metal gears and it’s far superior.

doe pee is a great cover scent on your clothes . When deer are in the rut , using an estrus spray has given me incredible results . A 9’point came over the e fence , and went straight to that branch and rubbed his antlers all in that spray . I am a believer but everyone has different luck / experiences

I never hunt all day in one stand. If I did I would be seeing purple squirrels by the end of the day.

@BG-bx4ey I didn't my buddy did, and if that's how you sleep at night, more power to ya. One day running your mouth won't be the best idea you had.
an hour in the stand and your sent has faded away, we drive right past bedded deer with the 4-wheeler, and they don't even get up
Wow, it seems any criticizing comments are deleted. That says a lot.
I've been hunting a few years and I make many mistakes
Totally disagree with number #1, obviously don't put a camera directly on the scrape tree itself (not sure if that's what you meant) but putting a camera off to side of a fresh scrape is very effective strategy to getting on a mature deer. Coming from a Michigan hunter that's not no rookie.
Straight fire from Jeff at the end...haha
Jeff if hunting the wind do you really need to be concerned about how you smell? Like wearing your clothes in the truck or showering with scent free soap.
Sure appreciate your time sharing what you have learned.
Apparently I do everything wrong but my freezer is still full so🤷🏻♂️
I could do everything and fill my freezer too 😁 Not the point tho, that's too easy...
Don't you just hate it when you see a rope mock scrape and you're like "what is a scrape?"
Hey 1st😂😂😂😂
Nice! Great harvest-!
The hunting public shoots deer, they dont just buy property thats loaded.
👍🏻
You young guys take notice of Bill Winke also. Unfortunately most young guys don't listen. Pay attention
You lost me on all day sits.
First? 9:26am
Got my 2nd buck. October 4th. Evening.. on the cut down corn
Not sure if you invented mock scrapes. Think maybe you did. But man there are guys out there using that info for content. Imitation is the best form of flattery I guess
