So basically, we colonized space, but back on Earth the nations were afraid that the colonies would have free reign to do what they want unless they were policed, so they formed the Earth Sphere Alliance so they could control and govern the colonies (with an iron fist). Before the series begins, the colonies joined forces and put together a pacifist movement to try to fight for their freedom. It was lead by a man named Heero Yuy. In the year After Colony 175, an assassin killed him. Meanwhile, this shadow group headed by 5 scientists, called the Organization of the Zodiac, or OZ, created a mobile suit prototype called Tallgeese to aid the Alliance's forces, but after they heard about the assassination, they defected. Gundam Wing starts in the year After Colony 195, with Operation Meteor. Each scientist created advanced mobile suits (the Gundams) and hand picked and trained one of the 5 main pilots and sent them to Earth to fight back against OZ. The current Heero was given the martyr's name as an alias.
DomScatterbrain also the first 10 episodes before it got picked up for the full run of episodes. You can see the obvious change in both tone and animation quality after ep 10
the way the ending protrays relena is pretty much a gig straight out of a modeling show.. the smug, pouting face of Relena is a key selling point in producing Gravure Idol pictures.. so.... in many ways the ending itself is a Modeling gig for a clothing brand
This might sound ridiculous, but as a girl who never sat properly and grew up watching anime where girls would always sit in the most girly of ways possible (men never draw women accurately) seeing one of the best female characters in one of my favorite shows sit like me in the first seconds of this ending was revolutionary to me as a kid. An anonymous thank you forever to whoever decided to draw Relina sitting like that and gave me a bit of much needed validation at that age.

I gotta say Relena's physical design is kind of interesting. I'm no expert in any fashion and there are certainly more attractive, cuter, and even sexier characters in this show and of course anime in general but somehow Relena still stands out in a way. Her face in particular is a bit more smoothed over giving her a rounder and fuller almost more human quality 0:28-0:35. As in most female characters (especially if they are main characters) most of us want or perhaps need a heroine that gives us an object of almost unattainable beauty. Relena doesn't have this particular quality in her design it's one that I've constantly looked for but have never found. It gives me both a sense of disappointment and fascination. Giving more realistic physical qualities to any fictional character are (I imagine) both difficult and risky as most human qualities could just be simply considered flaws. It can either endear or alienate an audience. In my case it endears me because it forces me to appreciate her rather piercing eyes 0:12 . Her far too mature demeanor 0:04 -0:06 and rather masculine posture. It is these qualities that seems to help give her an actual aura that I've grown attached to that I have never been able to put into words until now. All in all she is not the prettiest character I've seen but the most captivating female character I've ever seen. That in it of itself makes her the most beautiful character....... That being said I do wish she smiled more like this 0:42 so I could see and appreciate a more playful carefree side of her. But, oh well.....

Back when I was a kid in Indonesia, this used to air every Saturday and Sunday morning along with Pokemon, Doraemon, Power Rangers, Ultraman, Transformers (both G1 and Beast Wars), Inuyasha, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! And sometimes, this would air before airing a Godzilla movie or Jurassic Park!
I always thought it was funny how this ED was going for like a lighthearted fun thing, but Relena's character design made it so she always looked angry even when she was smiling. The eyebrows on girls in this show went craaaazy.
I really miss the serious tones that older anime gave off from just the art style. The cutesy art styles is all there is now, makes it hard to get into current anime.
I feel like pastoral backgrounds of global wilderness scenes had a distinct identity and feel in traditional cel anime. No matter the year they were made in or by which company, they all had this aesthetic, whether they were fresh off Japan's presses when dubbed, or we were JUST getting them in the US after 20 or 30 years. It seems to have shuffled off with the transition to digital, and that's a damn shame. They made watching anime before bed and in the early morning feel SENSATIONAL.

THIS is the Relena that shortcircuited the hardwired brain of the assassin pretty boy. Her later character starting around ep 30 just ironically makes her more naive and preachy, something she doesn't fix until Endless Waltz.
Holy smokes, while I do kind of get why they gave us the rock version of the theme for the end credits, I still also kinda wish they'd have trusted us with this ending when this was first airing over here. Relena would probably have made a lot more waifu lists.

“Beautiful animation” is an overstatement. TV series Wing has one of the worst cases of reused animations, safe for the final arc and the movie.
