- We put fly fishing against conventional gear tactics in a head-to-head challenge between Aaron and Jon B. (www.youtube.com...) in the Northern Region of Manitoba. None of us have been on Rocky Lake before so unpacking the water is a larger consideration than the techniques employed. MOST Smallmouth Bass caught wins EVERYTHING.

Jon was using a variety of craws and straight 4" worms on a light shaky head jig. Aaron was using bunny leech streamers and then a Hare's Ear Nymph.

This a really good example whats happen when you changing the bait colour or bait at all. It's so simple.

Bobbo Tron it's probably the worst and best job you can have. Travel to different lakes all the time and film massive fish. I've seen shows where the host has put the camera man on fish too lol its great.

I'm six months out now, pretty sure I watched every fishing video on youtube. It gets better, keep up on physical therapy and keep a positive attitude. I'm back to work and running. Good luck!

Tore my PCL in 8/2014. Physical Therapy helped so much to get me back to running again. It was tough learning how to walk again; left leg was broken and I tore the PCL in my right knee.
Good luck! Now you can take notes on all vids and make a killer fishing tackle list of anything you need to buy. That's what I did.

Rewatched the video 20 times over the past year. My friend and I quote it on the daily.
I like the contrast between Aaron and Jon. Both passionate about fishing. National geographic or animal planet should sign these dudes to host a fishing show....like the "Chasing Monsters" or "Monster fish" shows except with these two as the host.
Heck I'd vouch 4 these two for a reality fishing show hands down!
Guys, just the hands down best fishing I have seen this year. I love the two different angles as I myself loved fly fishing first then bass fishing. Way to go!

By far the best smallmouth fishing video I've seen on the internet. Just breaking it down to a science, finding what they want to eat, and putting down the hammer on em. I mean I catch 20+ in a day here in NH come spring throwing a popper all day but that's something I've picked up on over the years. This one the first time for the both of you? That's impressive

I was like "Aughhhh!" when Aaron wasn't catching on the streamers! I guessed he was going to concede and switch to a spinning rod but his tenacity (and a little bit of good fortune) paid off. If he hadn't found and CHOSEN to use that nymph, it would have been a different story. Just goes to show to keep trying and to use different techniques/baits.
You guys had great chemistry and, Aaron, I admire how you kept your cool so well.

I just came across these guys the other day and they appear to be nice guys who know more than just a little bit about fishing. Their first lesson for everyone? Don't give up through the ups and downs of a day on the water. Take a look around and think hard about which of the 75 baits in the tackle box might work. After all, the fish have to eat and you can't figure them out sitting in the truck or the cabin moaning about the fact that "they shut down." The guys 2nd lesson? Don't take it all too seriously. Have a good time with a buddy, son, daughter, Dad or someone else special. Enjoy these guys!

Struggling to catch on fly rod but with a bit of luck a small nymph flie and did it worked.
It shows how one simple fly is all you need.🎣🎣🎣🎣
On a more pressured lake the nymph would take many more fish than conventional tackle... Just my opinion. Would like to see a rematch on a different lake in mid-summer. Hopper patterns crush Smallies on all waters. Well done Aaron and Jon B!
Its really nice up there and really you don't need all these fancy baits. The fish are not pressured at all. Really all you need is some jigs and grubs and a few spoons to catch EVERYTHING!!!!!
