      I think the smallies are showing excellent life skills on their beds, as far as should it sacrifice itself for it's youth or simply because they are hungry.,

    I love how the first bass was caught on camera. It clearly didn't expect to get whisked away to Narnia just from biting the Helgrammite!

    • @NickAndCaroline
      @NickAndCaroline ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Hshshdfb I don’t think fish know to use the current as an advantage, they are just seeking cover/fleeing. They can seem smart, but don’t give them too much credit haha. They definitely don’t know that they are fighting an angler. There are exceptions of course, for example at a KOA campground there was a pond that was catch and release. They basically only eat hot dogs, and they hardly fight because they just go back into the water and wait for their next hot dog 😂😂😂 hahaha.

    Getting the eat on GoPro is freaking awesome!!! It’s what every fisherman wants to see is how fish react and eat stuff… when smallies are on their beds you can almost see their facial expressions change like they actually got pissed and ate whatever intruded on their spawn bed

    This is great! I love the underwater shots! It really shows the almost depressing amount of times you ALMOST get a bite.
    I do some scuba diving in a local lake (Stillhouse hollow, Texas) its a very clear lake and the dive shop is right at the marina/restaurant so there are always folks fishing. I cant calculate how many times I've see bass travel 10+ feet charging at a lure and then stop at the last second like "nah" Its what got me into adding scents to my lures, the sheer number of times a fish almost commits and then doesn't, I figure it might help.

    That underwater view is awesome to watch, the way the lure is rigged and weighted really makes it look like its rooting around trying to eat the eggs especially when you give it a little twitch and that shows why it works so well for this.
    Bed fishing isnt something we generally get to do over here because most rivers have a closed season for spawning so no fishing allowed but its still very interesting to watch

    Lawd, Matt. This video was incredible. It's the first time I've seen you use the underwater GoPro. Your accuracy was mindblowing, so consistent. Your persistence paid off. This video really shows how the fish don't normally bite the first cast(s), and you have to keep casting to tick 'em off enough to bite the "intruder". The nature sounds in the background and your commentary perfectly synced with the underwater action iced the cake. Perfect bed-fishing video. Thanks, man.

    Really interesting to me how the last bass kept observing your lure. It’s clear he is using only one eye just checking it out and studying. I saw only look directly at your helgamite once but really just kept in his vision mostly. It’s as if he was more curious than anything. Seems like he took the bait just to see what would happen almost. Thanks for sharing.

    I floated a 5 mile stretch on Sunday. Did pretty decent for raining the whole day. But i lost several including one tank. Using 20 lb powerpro and had my drag too tight. I believe i was turning the fish upstream on the hook set and my 7.5-1 baitcaster couldn't keep up with the short run upstream immediately after. Slacking the line and turning them loose from my w-plopper. Turned my drag down so there was slippage on the hook set and started netting them. 19-1/4" was the best i did. The new bite camera is awesome!! Nice work and ty👍

    First, let me preface, you are an extraordinary hunter/fisherman. Your presentation over and over and . . .over while getting no response had me in stitches. Your presentation was almost flawless. Each amazing presentation was met with complete indifference. At one point he picked up and shed a piece of garbage right beside the hellgrammite. What I was laughing at so hard was you’d bumped into a developmentally delayed bass. Normally you have amazingly good luck. If nothing else, this was immensely entertaining. 😂 Thank you. 👍

      One interesting thing I've noticed over the years is I can always get an idea of how aggressive the fish is going to be when I go to stick the camera next to their bed. The really aggressive ones hang out right next to me and they're back on the bed as soon as I back off. The ones I have to work for will go out of sight but I know they're watching me, once I back off if I don't get far enough away they'll circle out in front of the nest, keeping an eye on it and me until I back up a couple more feet. Those are the work for an hour fish.

    Done lots of smallie fishing on West Lake Okoboji! Noticed on 1st fish same thing as many fish we caught on beds in the past! Once you tossed that bait into the clean gravel of bed it was game on! When the hellgramite was off side in the dirtier gravel it wasn't that interested! I found that most bedding fish have an area of the bed they don't like things in; just need to read reaction of the fish! Love your smallie fishing content; keep up the great work!

    @17:00 You got to love it when they hit it just fast and hard enough to get it off the nest and you think you're about to catch him so you set the hook 🤣. Been there done that so many times this year I've lost track 😂. We had some really big crappie up here 12+ in on beds that were notorious for doing that. One way we figured out how to bypass that though is to throw a 3-in swim bait on that nest and they'll smack it every time.
