    Glad you did what you did. Today the 572 is by far the best saw out there in it's class. The 371/372 non x torque will go down in history as the best all-around chainsaw. The first gen x-turds underperformed, but that is to be expected until technology caught up. Summary from a logger.

      Yea to me the 372 X-torq gets a bad wrap. I’ve never known anyone to have a problem with them. They run all day and cut wood. I think it’s just a lot of bias.

    I like all of those saws there all good saws I even like the 372 X torc it’s always get bashed but I’ve never had any problems with mine and I use it a lot and I have the original non X torc to compare it too which is a little lighter and more powerful but still my x torc definitely gets a lot of work done efficiently

  • @Mike_Mike_0

    Understanding the species and how to set up your chain according to power output and fiber is far more important.
    I would take your slowest saw, set the chain to max efficiency, go to town, and have a big smile on my face. Easier said than done, takes lots of practice and discipline.
    Happy safe cutting.

    Im in need of a big saw, at least 80cc. If anybody has any partials that arent just totally burnt. Im able to build something, i just have limited time, im sick and i need too log the property so my wife doesnt have to figure it out when im gone.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow, that's a tough lead in to a question. The older 372xpw likely has the cases rattled apart so it was drawing air. Might be why the compression is off, wiped piston. So you probably need to move that one along if you really have to log a place. I usually cam bring them back if caught soon enough with simply a case gasket, hone the cylinder, & put in a piston ( if you can find the 51.4 replacement ) . As far as aftermarket top ends, I've had tough luck with all of them on 372's in a logging for real environment. Could bring it back to the OEM 50mm top end configuration and have a capable saw.

    Thanks for video. I've been watching since the 350 fugly. Only suggestion do not spike in and rock for more constintant times.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually a great observation/question. ! do both, but realize in the woods , the operator "adapts" and that is the point. Some saw power & chain conditions require keeping the dogs out, some reward dogging the thing. That adaptation shoots for better speed taking in account both chain , saw "spike" & bar geometry, and power characteristic so as an operator I'll give the saw as much as it can take :) A video will eventually happen on that topic.....letting a saw drop through the wood as I see often is really annoying as that about pressure and chain speed only.

    Hey Walt…..thanks for your videos and schooling, you and Tinman are the best out there in my opinion…..what is the latest verdict on the aftermarket 372 bottom end builds? Bearings? Seals? Crank?…..building an aftermarket 372xp and got the Hyway big bore pop up piston kit for it, but wanted to know if I should also put out for some better bearings/seals and crank….what’s your latest opinion on that?….have fun and good luck in everything….

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had OK lock if they were lighter use saws, all the ones I built for pro service had bearing pockets open up. And or the rod bearing on the crank go. Suspect the sustained use of a pro and or the higher compression push those cases into failure. Stick with OEM. For a "play saw" that doesn't cause you pain if it blows, why not use AM

    • @galipan6213
      @galipan6213 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thx so much for taking the time to answer….so it’s not the AM bearings that are the culprit, but the AM cases that are too soft? And expand with HD use?….reason I ask it’s because I have 2 AM cases with SKF bearings, but better get an OEM case huh?….have a fun day at the farm and at the bench

    I have a 371xp that I bought new in 98 or 99 and it still runs as good now as it did when new. Mine is also untouched bone stock. There is a reason why the 371/372 originals are so beloved. But with that said the 572xp with the auto tune is probably hands down the best all around saw built in its cc class not only from a cutting perspective but from end user experience. No tuning or worry of lean or rich conditions if maintained properly. There is something to be said for technology. Now if Husky could make a efi saw to compete with the Stihl 500i they would have a super saw.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But they do, a Stihl 500i is a very expensive piece of hardware A 585 even 592 costs a LOT less and has more power. Love when the Stihl heads want to compare a 572 70cc saw to the 80cc 500i. 585 is one of the best bang per buck saws available short of a Holzfforma g395. Technology layered on a two stroke is a marketing gimmick. A 585 has a carburetor.

    • @patrickjoy9551
      @patrickjoy9551 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@afleetcommand I wasnt trying to compare the 500i to the 572xp. What I was comparing was power to weight because its lighter than the 572xp. I am a Husky guy and like mine. But I am subjective enough to realize that if the Gov has its way carburetors are not going to be around much longer. Kind of like the auto industry. Yes the 500i is expensive no doubt. But its because it has zero competition from Husqvarna, Echo etc. I dont think its a gimmick either. The PC was thought to be a fad/gimmick and look what it has led to. There are those that view "auto tune" as a gimmick. Now 585 and 592xp may be good saws though I have no experience with either. But they are larger cc's and much heavier as well. I hope Husqvarna is putting some R&D into efi because imho it is the future of 2 strokes. I know they have the ability because Husky actually owns the patent on "M-tronic" and Stihl pays them for its use. Really liked this video and the collection of saws is awesome. Stay safe and keep those saws in the wood.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I get it and work on those too, I think the weight is an over rated thing when u consider how much material was taken out of the cases to achieve that. That trade off will show over time. For me the price performance coupled with durability over time as an investment is the true measurement of success for a pro saw. I go back to when I was a privateer racing, had Kawasaki( back in the late 70's early 80's and learned in a quantitative way the cost of racing was less with my heavier and more expensive KTM's than those green ones 1978-1982. Towards the end of a season it meant being able to continue. Then Honda's entered into my life 1985 and they were that blend of sophistication and durability, Analogy? The Stihl's now are like the Suzuki's then, light, fast, handlers, My KTM's & Honda's won races over the season though and were able to survive into the NEXT one. They remind me of the Husqvarna's now. Ever evolving, added material at the expense of a spec sheet sale. While Husqvarna from time to time have supply chain & manufacturing issues; they evolve to a better place inevitably. Always have and do now. AND they have now added more "meat" in the right places on saws like the MK2 550's and 562's to service in a pro world vs. continue down the spec sheet path. Stihl went from rock solid 460's 461's to 462's and 500i's. NOW I also understand the "cult" of Stihl has to find a way to justify their extra cost. And they understand the shallow nature of online / TH-cam marketing and fads, so hammer the Light and fast as the rule to counter. Push Cookies OR specs along with finding ways to diminish the advantages of competition vs. actual price performance. I can have a MUCH more capable Husqvarna for the price of a 500i :) I have $1000 into my 585. the extra $700 bucks can get me a Holzfforma g395 which would get me TWO saws that would out perform the 500i. AND some bar & chains to go to work with. Bet you never see THAT metric on line in cookie cut heaven

      @afleetcommand  ปีที่แล้ว

      anywhere from 13,400 13,500 is within specs. No lad is about mixture not RPM's , a way to get "close". Use the plug checks to dial it in if your a performance oriented type. :) I ALWAYS go a little rich , especially in the summer; with customer saws. Most won't re-tune as the seasons change and temps drop. So set a little fat on a day like this (mid 80's) and it will be "OK" in the fall at 30 degree's (F not degree's C)
