They had scroll technology around 60 years ago. They had a seal between the scroll and it routinely failed. The machining process gets the tolerance much lower now so the gasket is no longer needed. I’ve seen the cut outs of these scrolls but never seen a running cut out. This was very cool thanks for the video.
@@jamesv4463 the scrolls are covered in oil. The oil acts as a seal that covers the microgaps and prevents the air from leaking. It also covers the surface of the scrolls and prevents them from getting cold welded together.

You are right there are three bearing, drive bearing, middle is the straddie bearing and the lower bearing.The lower bearing live in the oil so it does see as much wear.The straddie bearing take a ton of abuse especially on liquid flood back.I don't see that much wear on the upper bearing when I take them apart. Wow. Great feedback @dizziedallas . I worked on a unit today that had a scroll that was vibrating terribly. My guess is the compressor had liquid flood back recently since there were no pressure switches installed and the system leaked out all the refrigerant. I found the compressor off on internal thermal overload

I used to work at the factory that made that little plastic tube that you see attached to the side of the fixed scroll. Perhaps an older unit. The ones we made were of black plastic instead of white.
is the noise at 1:34 "like a moped" is normal ? My heating pump is doing same noise, I've had a pac for a few years, and I find it surprising that it makes this noise.

We use 220V out here and 380V 3 phase. Just not sure what capacity I should use. It'll just be dry testing the motor like you reviewed here

Karl-Alfred Römer their are ports for oil to run through the entire compressor to lubricate the moving parts. Oil runs through the entire refrigerant circuit.

I would like to know how they don't cold weld. It's hiding a secret. In the factorys you cant even take a phone Into where they make the scrolls

may be it is medium scroll type 1 , i 'm not sure but i think the motor lower bearing is in contact with the lubricants ..

There’s a discharge check valve to prevent reverse rotation. Scrolls only run in one direction

SARAWESHWARAN BASHKARAN it will blend with the liquid refrigerant. The purpose of a crank case heater is to keep the oil warm so they don’t blend.

why would there be equalized pressure on a scroll brand new?
Unlike reciprocating compressor. On scrolls the pressures equalize in the compressor when it’s off

As it ages and the system has leaked down a few times it won't build sufficient vacuum and the evap coil floods

Typically, what sizes of external torx do you come across when tearing this compressors apart?
Der Werkzeug König there are many different compressor. Different torque ratings for every bolt. Some are over 150lbs to as low as 4lbs.
