A bike adventure around the lake is a lovely way to spend your time.
What a refreshing view around the lake ‼︎. Thanks for sharing ❤
What a unique restaurant. The glowstick light show by the kids was so cute!
Thank you for sharing your life and family with us! The summary was great as we didn't even realize how much we've been able to follow you this whole year! Our kids still love watching and seeing how your kids are growing up! God bless!
I love how everyone switches languages with no problem.
God bless your happy family! You are a, well, not exactly daily, dose of joy. Thank you for sharing this joy with all of us.
I’m definitely not as brave as you guys are! 🦋 Such a fun family. Enjoy your weekend!
Hi dears! Here in italy, when i was child my granny give me meat horse (because is rich in iron and digestible), also a little meatballs made with cow brain (i was born in '60 and no mad cow at all), and a lot of meat rabbit (and i prepare some meal for my family even now), just because is digestible and lower in fat. I know that is strange for foregners...
I am from austria and i do know rabbit and horse too! :D even though i was born 1998.
Sadly cowbrain is not available anymore...
I'd love to try it because u really love trying out new food! :)
Oh, that was not stewed "horse meat" but stewed "horse innards".
That is one of local cuisine in Yamanashi pref.
Horse "meat" is very good. you shold try!
Makes sense as to why they thought it tasted like liver!!
@@lottejohnson250
yes!
"like liver"
me : "what? that cannot be right..."
and I googled about that.
It's true - it was horse intestines, not meat as we assumed in the video.
Houtou is a traditional noodle dish of Yamanashi Prefecture.
Pork is the standard, and other than that, it's each person's favorite. Even in Japan, there are different likes and dislikes.
Come to think of it, there were deer when you last visited Lake Yamanaka!
I've taken my daughter every year to a game dinner at the hunting club: bear, venison, moose, duck, goose, elk... pretty much every game animal. Bear's definitely "out there" but it's amazing what skillful cooks can do with these various meats.
Love this family 🤗❤ Happy to see you guys hanging out together!^_^
I went to Houtou about 4 years ago with friends but we didn’t try bear or horse. I’ve eaten horse sashimi here in Japan and bear in the US. I agree with your description of bear-tastes like beef but chewy and gamey.
You guys are awesome trying everything in Japan which I have ever tried while I were in Japan. Because you have mentioned about taking off shoes in Japan. The reason why we do that traditionally b/c we are the part of Ten Tribes of Israel. I was taught by my father in Japan that the house is very sacred place and we must maintain clean and holy to feel the spirit of God.
When you enter the holy house or temple in ancient time, they did take off their shoes and wear slippers so we maintain those traditions in Japan. We carried on the things ancient Israel did. You know that the first emperor came to Japan in BC 711. Written on “ Nihonki ‘ !
Life in Japan thanks for sharing your video of Yamanakako
I remember when I was stationed in Florida, one of the guys made gator nuggets 😮. I was leery of alligator meat, but those gator nuggets were fantastic. Becca’s reaction to eating Winnie the Pooh 😅. Love it that she’s still rock’n the Star Wars sweatshirt!
I just started learning Japanese, and stumbled upon your channel a couple weeks ago. Your videos are so wholesome! and you have a beautiful family. Thanks for showing us so much of Japan, keep up the great work!
Another fun video! Your content is so addictive. It reminds me of when "Friends" was on TV and I couldn't wait for the next episode. There is so much joy and positivity in your videos. And shot with pro level equipment too! Keep up the great work. By the way, I'm asking Santa for a Sony A74 this year Lol. Aloha from Yokohama🤙
Thanks! My a74 shot this whole episode! Great camera :). Hope you get your wish :)
@@LIJ sweet!! The quality of the A74 is truly amazing!! I’ll probably end up getting socks for Christmas🤣
This was filled with holiday spirit! ❤️💕 Loved it!
God bless ur vids are awesome wish I could visit ur church
I have never eaten bear meat nor houtou noodle before, though I have eaten brawn and often eat usual udon. They look delicious and unique to me. I wish there was such a restaurant in my hometown.
Beautiful place to ride a bike!
I grew up in a country where horse was common. No big deal for me. 😅
We have been to this place here too.
Such fun!
In Kumamoto, there is a type of horse sashimi (raw horse meat dish) called "BASASHI".
Please try it when you visit Kumamoto.
It is delicious.
I would love to see an episode where Life in Japan visit the UK one day
Me too!!!
A horse is a pet, and I never consider eating "baniku" unless there is no other option such as when a customer "treated me" to another whole platter because I smiled when he asked if I liked the "bazashi". Long Live Mr. Ed. On the other hand, a walrus is never a pet, so it's ok to eat Hokkaido Walrus Curry.
Love that your making memories with your family, always loving an postive! Looking forward to next weeks video, will Ruth be shopping at Dieso? (dollar store)? Lol...I love seeing the unique items there!
Between my husband and I, I am probably the more adventurous when it comes to food. I'd try and horse and bear meat, but I have a feeling I would prefer the bear over horse. I'm quite fond of venison though. We have some friends who made a venison chili a few years ago that was fantastic. And we got to try some venison summer sausage a few months ago that was amazing.
The bear, while it was a bit tough, was good. It had a very unique aftertaste which both Ruth and Debbie didn't like, but I didn't mind.
Hay…..we will go back to Yamanakako next year spring April love Christy Carrico from Japan 🇯🇵
You can try the houtou when you go back :)
It looks delicious!
Merry Christmas 🎄
Merry Christmas!
I was wounding when you do Thankgiving and the food look delicious. Can’t for you guys do a video for Christmas and my house is decorated for Christmas.
We're planning a Christmas House Tour for Christmas Eve's Eve!
Horse is a good meat, I had once "fondue chinoise" with horse meat. The meat tastes in my opinion a bit sweet. I had myself long time a horse, and still don't have any problem eating the meat ...as long as I don't know the name the animal had.
Love you guys. My Dad lived in Belgium for 3 years in the 70s and they ate horse there. Cheval is the French word. Tasted just like steak to me. Glad to see the girlfriend contributing more. Did you really go into hibernation after that? By the way I'm from Illinois too.
I want to try.
yay! I hope you enjoyed your time in Yamanashi :D It's getting colder here everyday. I also never tried bear houtou so I'll definitely find a nearby place to try it out😁
horse meat❌
horse intestine⭕️
I'm afraid of that horse meat! I don't know about that! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Next you have to try Fugu (poison blowfish) or Getomono (disgusting food) if you dare. Going the safe route go try Okonomiyaki. I first found out about Okonomiyaki from the anime Ranma one half.
I'd be way to scared to try blowfish
1:40 I think it's innards, not horse meat.
I live in Nagano prefecture, In Nagano Prefecture, it is called "Otaguri". In Yamanashi Prefecture, it's called "Motsuni".
That's correct!
Thats funny I'm japanese i have never eaten bear meat lol But currently i live in south dakota and i'm afraid to eat buffalo meat. I didn't know Japanese eat bear meat until i saw this video
When one of the girls said " hisashiburi to walk " i heard your response "it feels good isn't it" i was like, huh? she said she was sore so i thought "ooh he didn't understand what she said, BUT!
then IT KINDA was a good response because it sure feels good to have a walk after a long time so...
Dad must be hiding its japanese power level just for comedy purpose...
All that food looked delicious!!! What does horse taste like? Is it like beef or something?
We had the horse innards, which I wouldn't recommend, but I've heard the Japanese Horse Sashimi is really good.
I think that is not horse meat. I think that intestine, which explain the liver-like texture. Horse meat is really similar to beef.
You're right - it was horse intestines.
Interesting to see the way you guys spelled Houtou different. Ruth said it more like with a Brazilian accent, like we would say here and you said it more like the American English way. I like accents, I always pay attention to spelling and learning new vocabulary.

It's pot season. Please eat delicious nabe together.
👍❤
You are way more brave than I would be. I’ll stick with the pork.
Something funny to add- the first commercial to pop up as you are sampling the bear meat, is one about protecting the environment and shows video of baby bears.
Ha ha ha!! That's hilarious
The first horse meat is a stewed intestine dish.
Hey! How long did it take you guys to learn Japanese and was it a big struggle? I’m looking to move to Tokyo soon.
We've been here almost 9 years and we're still learning. Learning Japanese from a western language is a big challenge, but anyone dedicated to it can do it.
