Thanks for checking out the video.
@@justhumblemeclarke7292 Did you apply at bag rate? How much area did you treat and how much fert did you use. Also, did it get watered in? How long has the product been down? Lots of questions I know.
@@LawnJourneys used the bag rate but I think I watched too many TH-cam videos. The guy suggested for proper coverage to reduce the amount by half and go across the lawn vertically then horizontally. I applied nearly 2 weeks ago. There was rain almost immediately after spreading. Actually sprinkling as I put the equipment in the garage. My neighbor stayed with the company and his lawn was treated a month ago and looks AMAZING! I also treated for insects a week ago haven't treated for fungus yet.
Russ, I am following up on this video because I down PGF complete a month ago. It is really good stuff! This video captures your authentic joy from the results of this product. I am currently feeling the same thing. 👍
Ruben I totally agree. PGF is still a favorite of mine, although I favor higher K ferts for the sumner, rest assured PGF will be back on my lawn when the summer heat is behind 😀
I put pgf and Purely Organic down just before a 2 inch rain a couple of weeks ago. Looks great. I have zoysia and under fed last year because of the heat and it suffered but now it's responding well to the PGF. I'm in central Texas.
I think I’ve seen purely organic at Home Depot? I may give it a run, organic ferts are great for warmer weather and have longer duration. I think I’ll try that combo for my next fert! Thanks
We just bought our 1st house with a nice yard and I spent a lot of time researching fertilizers and pre emergents being that “fall” gets here in the south a little later. I came across this fertilizer and I decided to give it a try. I’ll let you know how the results go! Off topic but I’ll use the pre emergent in early November
Wilmintonian18: Nice to hear from you and congrats on the house! Andersons PGF-C is a great fertilizer, maybe somewhat more costly but I've seen more than one lawn respond favorably. Water it in and let me know what you think. Pre emergent here also in November.
PGF-C is still my all time favorite fert. I just ran it on another lawn and got a few comments on how good the lawn looks. I also did a few rounds of bio-stims this season. I think I may run nothing but PGF-C on that lawn for the entire season, next year (and continue bio-stims, insect, fungus control etc.). Watched one of your vids, what part of the north east are you in?
Great video, how long does that deep green last? Your yards looks great 👍👍.. Will you used it again right before fall, before reseeded or afterwards ? Thanks
I apply every 5-6 weeks. If your over-seeding you can substitute a starter fert. I usually do a last round of PGF-C early November, before we go into fert blackout. My cool season turf stays green into December. Loves the cool weather.
PGF-C is a straight up fertilizer. I feel there are benefits to these products over some of the blended big box store ferts. You can use PGF-C all season but would have to do separate distinct apps of weed and insect control if you feel you need. I prefer liquid weed killers, such as Speed Zone for weed control. amzn.to/3OwJOmX You can apply it from a hose end sprayer for blanket coverage (if you have a large weed infestation) or from a pump sprayer for targeted weed control (this is how I currently use it). Same applies to insect control. There are insect specific granular or liquid apps you can utilize. Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer for Lawns (read the label to make sure it targets your insect infestation. amzn.to/3xZiZAP amzn.to/3OMbfZH There are other products for insect "Prevention" such as GrubX but you need to apply at the proper time: th-cam.com/video/MUB-wytK_q8/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps and thanks for watching the video.
@@rosiesingleton6480 Nothing wrong with Scott’s! I think step 3 is fert with insect control. PGF-C has no insecticide. If you feel that you want to manage for insects you can get some insect control and apply as a separate app. Amazon had Triazicide on sale. amzn.to/3HnF1kQ You can apply both on same day, separate spreader events or do the insect app the following week.
PGF has been my favorite overall but recently I've been using the yard mastery blends. This year I've mostly used the starter fertilizer blend since I was low on phosphorus
I think next year I'm going to have to put down humic and other products more. Every year I'm noticing the same areas of my lawn having spots dying off.
You can but you may do better with a starter fert, higher P and K. Best time to versed cool season lawns is in the fall. Much better success rate. Not saying it won’t work in spring but new grass can suffer in summer heat.
@@LawnJourneysso use this pfg complete in October? I overseeded mid September with starter fertilizer. So next week will be four weeks. So I was thinking of applying starter fertilizer again. Site One has a starter fertilizer with mestrone. I used lesco starter fertilizer on my first application. So please advise. Thanks
@@brodygoalie I would go with the PGF since it has 16% P (great for new seed rootinng) and will green up the rest of the lawn nicely. If you have a major weed issue now you could do a seperate app of Meso or tackle it in the spring (what I normally do). Good luck and enjoy.
Roger: I go monthly in spring and fall, 5-6 weeks in summer. However it can get $, 5 weeks is probably more than adequate. I like to maintain the green color 😀
@@rogerhanyip6118 I like to go every 5-6 max. PGF does maintain color long, in my experience. 8 weeks is a bit of a stretch even though the bag says 6-8. It’s a slow release fert so throw it down and watch the color response. If it stays green past 6, then run it out to 8 and re-apply. It’s a great product.
12-12-12 is pretty universal and I’ve used it for dialect fert of the season, from time to time. PGF-C has an excellent prill size (small), and has a nice stack of micros and iron. I am using Andersons 16-0-8 firtilizer on Bermuda lawn in high temperature texas . Should this be given in a lesser setting to prevent burning of lawn? Thank you
According to Andersons you can apply at the bag rate for Bermuda. They recommend 1/2 rate for Centipede and also 3/4 rate for cool season grasses in the summer. I don’t have Bermuda but understand it’s almost indestructible, just keep it watered. If you don’t irrigate you may want to apply at 1/2 rate because your Bermuda could go dormant in drought conditions and probably wouldn’t utilize the N.
No joke literally put PGF-C down today. I’ll probably do one more in November. If you haven’t fed your lawn I’d do the same, now and November (where are you located?). If you have weeds I’d hit it with a liquid lawn safe weed killer. If your in super hot weather and can’t irrigate, then I’d hold up a few weeks, your lawn may be dormant. In any case, anything you start now or this fall will show benefits now and put you ahead next spring.
Milo is a 6-4-0 PGF is a 16-4-8 If you apply both at the bag rate you’d be applying 22% Nitrogen which could be a little heavy pushing growth. I personally would start the season with PGF and then follow with the Milo in 4-6 weeks. The organic sun the milo will probably have a better impact when the ground is warmer. You can run this combo all year but I’d separate the apps for reasons noted.
Good to know you are in Jersey Same here thanks for showing this video. I’m a lawn care freak and they treat lawns there’s so many types of fertilizers I want to try. But our seasons here aren’t long enough for that I’ll have to try either the PGF complete or 16 - 0-8

Ken thanks for the nice comment. I generally water 1/2” three times per week. I do have irrigation and the controller automatically cancels a watering event if rain is predicted. I’ve been wanting to share in a future video.
Wow! Now, that’s what I call good color!!! I watched another video you did on Yard Mastery’s Double Dark, though. How do you like this blend of PGF compared to the Double Dark? I’ve heard great things about both of them. The most notable difference I see between the two is the recommended intervals between applications. With the PGF, I see it’s recommended that you wait 6 to 8 weeks between apps. With the DD, it’s okay to apply every month. I like the idea of spoon feeding, for more consistent color in my lawn, but if the PGF gives good, consistent color all the way up until the following application, 6 to 8 weeks later, I could definitely live with that. What are your thoughts on that?
Hey Victor. I really like the color from PFG Complete and think it provides a longer lasting green. With that said I usually do an app every 5 weeks in season. Admittingly I only tried the YM DD once, will probably give it another shot this season coming, I Love trying different products. Lots of folks "spoon feed" at half the bag rate, applying every 2-3 weeks. So many ways to feed your turf. I don't necessarily do the same thing year to year because I like to see how may turf responds to various products and application rates. With that said, I do find myself coming back to PFG Compete often. Its not cheap but I feel it gives a deep green for a longer period, so maybe its cost effective in comparison. Sorry not a definitive answer for you. Be well and thanks for checking out my vid.
@@PCConditioning Yes it’s fine. If your using a sole crabgrass preventer, product with Zero N, and the also apply PGF-C, product with N. I did just that this season, see two recent videos fro m this season. Other option is you start with a combo product, Scott’s with Halts crabgrass control, doing a single combined app to get things started. You could then run PGF-C as your second N app of the season.
Art: I think I'm going to roll with PGF-C the rest of the season. I am doing a fall overseed, so I may substitute one feeding with a starter fert, probably from Yard Mastery if in stock. With that said, I may skip the fall pre-emergent or put it down very late, maybe December. I feel that it stops germination of winter weeds in Jan/Feb when we sometimes get moderate temps in NJ. I know folks say no pre-emergent after seeding but I'll put it down late, same thing I did last year. I may take a break on overseeding next fall, if things are in good shape. Its a lot of work. Thanks for dropping a comment, feel free to share your plan.

Thats a huge increase. I hear fert has gone way up but seems like DIY lawn fert products have not increased as drastically. Let me know what you think. PFG is still one of my favorites and gets applied a few times each season. Don't overlook any needed weed prevention/treatment, fungus or insect apps that your lawn company was likely doing. Thanks for checking out the video.
@@LawnJourneys I must have done it wrong my lawn hasn't improved.
@@LawnJourneys thanks for the response!
Wowwww😮
Flagship is mostly crap. That pgf complete is the real deal!!
@@LawnJourneys I am in Buffalo NY. I have kbg/rye mix
@@toddsreellawn8905 Nice area. I'm in southern Jersey, KBG mostly but have mixed in rye and fescue along the way. Be good.
I absolutely love Andersons products. I can't say the same for those products that Hayne guy promotes lol.
Should you use this through out the year or should you be using different blends for weeds prevention and insects?
PGF-C is a straight up fertilizer. I feel there are benefits to these products over some of the blended big box store ferts. You can use PGF-C all season but would have to do separate distinct apps of weed and insect control if you feel you need.
I prefer liquid weed killers, such as Speed Zone for weed control.
amzn.to/3OwJOmX
You can apply it from a hose end sprayer for blanket coverage (if you have a large weed infestation) or from a pump sprayer for targeted weed control (this is how I currently use it).
Same applies to insect control. There are insect specific granular or liquid apps you can utilize.
Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer for Lawns (read the label to make sure it targets your insect infestation.
amzn.to/3xZiZAP
amzn.to/3OMbfZH
There are other products for insect "Prevention" such as GrubX but you need to apply at the proper time:

Hope this helps and thanks for watching the video.
wow that a beutiful lawn i just bought some of this fertilizer.
Nice of you to comment 😀. I try different ferts but keep coming back to PGF-C, great color and the size spreads great. Let me know how it works.
i will let you know 😀
Can't beat Anderson's products. I e tried to find better but in the end it always goes back to Anderson's
Totally agree, it really gives my turf a quality unlike few others. Keep in touch.
I used the Scott’s 4 step program this year for my lawn. I‘lol
Oops - cut myself off there - anyway, l will be due for step 3 in July - can I just switch over to PGF instead ?
@@rosiesingleton6480 Nothing wrong with Scott’s! I think step 3 is fert with insect control. PGF-C has no insecticide. If you feel that you want to manage for insects you can get some insect control and apply as a separate app. Amazon had Triazicide on sale. amzn.to/3HnF1kQ
You can apply both on same day, separate spreader events or do the insect app the following week.
@@LawnJourneys is PGF safe for animals ?
@@rosiesingleton6480 Any fert should avoid pet contact until watered in and dried.
When I've used it, my lawn has definitely thickened up. I have liked the humic mixed in with the the fert. Wish more ferts included humic in it
Brian it performs consistently which is why it’s one of my all time favorites. What’s your current favorite?
PGF has been my favorite overall but recently I've been using the yard mastery blends. This year I've mostly used the starter fertilizer blend since I was low on phosphorus
@@brianluby8143 Yes I ran stress blend which is perfect for high heat and also ran flagship earlier this year. Great lineup there.
I think next year I'm going to have to put down humic and other products more. Every year I'm noticing the same areas of my lawn having spots dying off.
Can I overseed after I spread the PGF product?
How often do you repeat fertilizing treatment on your lawn?
Roger: I go monthly in spring and fall, 5-6 weeks in summer. However it can get $, 5 weeks is probably more than adequate. I like to maintain the green color 😀
@@CommanderAdamaNJ Will 8 weeks be sufficient to maintain the lush green appearance according the instructions?
@@rogerhanyip6118 I like to go every 5-6 max. PGF does maintain color long, in my experience. 8 weeks is a bit of a stretch even though the bag says 6-8. It’s a slow release fert so throw it down and watch the color response. If it stays green past 6, then run it out to 8 and re-apply. It’s a great product.
Great advice sir! How would you compare it to the 12 12 12? I’m in the Midwest and the triple 12 seems to work good.
12-12-12 is pretty universal and I’ve used it for dialect fert of the season, from time to time. PGF-C has an excellent prill size (small), and has a nice stack of micros and iron. Results in great color for my cool season grass. There is also a non P version, which should be used if your soil is high in P.

@@LawnJourneys no tall fescue?
@@chipdip6577 Yes over the years it’s been over seeded with various KBG blends, some had tall fescue, hence my reference to a “salad bowl.” Last three over-seeds were Cool Blue blend only.
Hey Russ , when is the best time to start spring or fall?
No joke literally put PGF-C down today. I’ll probably do one more in November.
If you haven’t fed your lawn I’d do the same, now and November (where are you located?). If you have weeds I’d hit it with a liquid lawn safe weed killer. If your in super hot weather and can’t irrigate, then I’d hold up a few weeks, your lawn may be dormant. In any case, anything you start now or this fall will show benefits now and put you ahead next spring.
I'm new to law csre. Can I combine milorganite and pgf complete in one application ?
Milo is a 6-4-0
PGF is a 16-4-8
If you apply both at the bag rate you’d be applying 22% Nitrogen which could be a little heavy pushing growth.
But our seasons here aren’t long enough for that I’ll have to try either the PGF complete or 16 - 0-8
Hi Izzy! PGF-C is still a favorite but I do work in other ferts to see how they perform in my turf. Only get so many apps a season so its hard to experiment with too many. Thanks for leaving a comment, hope your season goes well.
@@LawnJourneys Thank you appreciate the kind thoughts was also wondering what grass type you have? My front and side yards are primarily a fescue with a little bit of Perennial rye And maybe a smidge of KGB mixed in. My backyard same idea but starting to transfer all the bald spots over to straight perennial rye having a tough time coming in even though it is supposed to be fast to germinate I think these cold New Jersey nights is something it’s not liking
@@izzyd8613 I'm primarlily KBG but there is a mix of fescue and rye from previous overseeds. Yes its been extremely cool in NJ this spring. if you did a spring seed then its probably not all germinated yet. If you seeded last fall then its all just slow to get going this year. I haven't cut in 10 days and normally it would have grown a few inches easy in seven. Cutting tomorrow but my 10 day forecast only shows one day over 70 in that span. Hopefully May will be nice and you know the heat is going to come. Keep in touch.

How long does that green up last for? Do you supplement with anything like ironite in between fert applications?
In my lawn I fertilize ever 5-6 weeks in season. I do supplement once a month with some bio-stims. However, I've used PFG Complete on a relatives turf and it stays green between applications. I really like the product.
That looks amazing Russ. Great job. All your hard work shows and DOMINATES. Kudos sir.
Thanks Steve. It is a true favorite in my lineup. 😀
I accidentally over applied with my Scotts drop spreader but it wasn't calibrated right. I'm worried about burn. Is this product forgiving?
16% N. Not sure how over you went but it’s a mix of fast and extended N so I’d think your probably ok. Keep it watered.
I really don’t like using a drop spreader with fert because you have to be more precise with pattern. Let me know how it turns out 😀
@@commanderlawn2886 thanks for replying. I almost feel like it was applied double. I'm going to change my watering schedule and water every day for a week see if that helps.
@@commanderlawn2886 it's been one day is there anything I can besides water it? I'm only asking because a big piece of property that has really good grass grass growth. I've been using organic products only and I decided to try pgf. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
How over did you go? Ie. How much do you think you applied per 1000ft2?
In any case is a mix of fast and slow release. Watering will help push the fast release through the soil. If you don’t see much yellowing or browning then your probably ok. Also I know some folks will refrain from cutting, longer blades will participate in more photosynthesis wherein growing grass should utilize more nutrients . Let me know how you make out.
I'll stick with Scott's Turf Builder. When grass is that long it's going to be green but let's see it at 1 1/2 inches hoc.
Nothing wrong with Scott’s. PGF is not cheap but it does push a dark green with my turf. Have a great turf season.

What's the SGN?
150 from the documentation I’ve found. Some may consider too large for greens. I’m not an authority on Fert sizes but it’s the finest I’ve found so far. Thanks for commenting.
@@LawnJourneys when my stand was healthy (terrible currently 🥴) 100 or lower would only make it's way through the dense canopy. I put similar size down back then and laid on top causing some burn spots where the pellets of N sat.
Super thick. What type of grass do you have, Bermuda?

@@LawnJourneys thanks you.
Great video. Great lawn. What was your watering schedule?
@@LawnJourneys Thanks for your feedback on this. I was wondering what your thoughts were on that.
Thanks for your time!
Is it ok if I use this plus a crabgrass preventer granule fert to kick off the spring season?
@@PCConditioning Yes it’s fine. If your using a sole crabgrass preventer, product with Zero N, and the also apply PGF-C, product with N. I did just that this season, see two recent videos fro m this season. Other option is you start with a combo product, Scott’s with Halts crabgrass control, doing a single combined app to get things started. You could then run PGF-C as your second N app of the season.
Your lawn is looking amazing Russ. I would say the product works well :)
For sure and thanks again for checking out the video. Looking forward to your ongoing reno!
lawn looks great- what is your fert plan rest of year?- applying pre-emergent or seeding?
All of these products by Anderson are awesome. The issue is it is high in sulfur, which lowers the ph. Could have a negative effect if lime is not used a high levels.
There is a 16-0-8 blend. If your soils is not P deficient use that one.
