- Join me on another awesome Dorset walk, this time along the Winterborne valley before climbing onto Charlton Down to follow an ancient earthwork, then dropping back down to valley again. This walk takes in some lovely countryside, woodlands, some beautiful villages, and some historic churches. On top of that, we will see some ancient graffiti in the woods.
Thanks so much for watching and if you enjoyed it and would like to see more, please do LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and FOLLOW me.

Ah, thank you so much Candice 😀
Discovered your wonderful videos. Dorset such a great county !
Ah, thanks so much Geoff 😀 Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I like making them 😀
Such an idyllic walk with so many pretty cottages, hamlets and villages. Winterborne Zelston is gorgeous and the church at the end is so unusual. I actually thought that your walk was going to take you through Winterborne Steepleton, Abbas and St. Martin close to me in West Dorset but I didn't realise that there were quite so many other ''Winterbornes''! 😊
Thanks Lucy 😀 Yes, there are at least two Winterborne Rivers - I'm sure I will do a walk along the other one at some point as I have routes down that way 😀
Hi terry beautiful walk I could stroll round these places all day the cottages were idyllic and I love exploring old churches so interesting to learn all about the different winterborne hamlets hope these churches can stay preserved glad the weather was good thanks for sharing and taking us with you again xx
Ah, thanks Jane 😀 All the churches seem to be being cared for, and they are all delightful in their own way, even the ones that are not traditionally known for being 'architecturally interesting' 😀 xx
Fantastic you find so many lovely Dorset walks especially one now with the sun out and not so muddy.I remember visiting an ancient Aunty in Winterbourne Abbas 50+yrs ago but not other picturesque areas.super sunday vlog 😊
Thanks so much Andrew. There are a couple of Winterborne Rivers and both have villages along their length - Winterbourne Abbas is actually on the other one but I will do a walk there someday I'm sure 😀
What a lovely walk. Truly idyllic locations too
Ah, thanks Paul ❤️
Lovely walk Terry, Dorset has a very rich vein to mine when it comes to walking and landscape. Never visited any of this particular set of Winterbornes, nearest I've been is driving along the A31. I've always been pre-occupied I think, trying to get my head around the length of the wall surrounding Charlborough House and Park, so that I'm approaching Bere Regis before I know it. If memory serves me correctly, Charlborough Park has no access of any form, footpaths, bridle paths or right-to-roam, which seems a great pity. is that still the case, correct me please if I'm wrong. Bev.
Thanks Bev 😀 There are at least two Winterbourne Rivers in Dorset with strings of villages named after them - I will probably cover the other one at some point 😀 I believe you are right, there are no footpaths through the Charborough estate sadly, or certainly not within the walled part. Terry
I love that church in Winterborne Thompson. The cottage behind the church was the home to my Auntie for 20 odd yrs, until it caught fire a number of years back. Both her and my cousin were lucky to escape, as it happened during the night. Each time I stayed with them I always payed my visit to the church. Lovely feeling inside.
Yes, I love that little church too. Interesting to hear about your connection with that hamlet. The fire must have been scary!
Wonderful as always but I am confused - I always thought the definition of a hamlet is a small village that does not contain a church that falls under the jurisdiction of a village (or town) in the same parish. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Ah, thank you 😀 There are two definitions of a hamlet, the formal one is exactly as you said, the informal one is a small group of dwellings 😀
