My first time watching your channel 😊 i'm a local builder and have been working on some properties in Lytchett Matravers over the past year, one of which is quite old called Lytchett St Mary, on Colehill Road - part of it dates back to the 17th century. Great video!!
Thanks so much James 😀 Interesting to hear about the property you are working on - must be a labour of love to work on a property with so much heritage.
Clicked on this because I also have ancestors from lychett matravers. I am descended from the Peach family, I am sure our ancestors would have crossed paths somewhere.
Don't know this area but so beautifully wooded with so many variety of trees and birdsong.thx for sharing together with your personal connection to the area 😊
Hi terry really enjoyed this walk so much to see loved the village so pretty and peaceful really interesting about your family history thanks for sharing and the stories along the way looking forward to the next one x
Hi Terry this your uncle Don we have just watched your latest vidio and enjoyed it verry much. I never knew any of the Dolemans but that was very interestingi
Hi Uncle Don. Good to hear from you and to know you are watching my videos :) Thank you! I have quite a lot on the history of the Dolman family, partly because they were local I guess :)
Good video Terry. I spent my last two tears '79 and '80 living in Lytchett Matravers before moving to Michigan. Still got good friends in Lytchett so visiting when we return to the UK is always on the list. Keep the videos coming because my wife and I are hooked. Do you ramble west Dorset?
Thanks so much Ian! Yes, I do walk in West Dorset and I will be putting some videos up soon - it is easier now that the days are longer :) Watch this space.....
in the census on the opcdorset website you can read what kind of jobs the Dolmans had e.g. game keeper, midwife, thread and button maker... .Why would people place a memorial somewhere and at what time? or is the lane the memorial? yes, as you say, very interesting
Terry, interesting video as usual. Have you searched in the Lychett Matravers churchyard for your relatives headstones? Always good for finding the dates of their lifespan. On another note, your visit to East Morden reminded me of visits to the Cock and Bottle pub many years ago (I'm not local, from just south of Bristol). I searched it and found a Facebook link that said it closed at the end of May last year. I then found another link that said it'd been sold at auction in September. Would you know if it's been kept as a pub, or is it "another one bites the dust"?
Thank you :) Yes, I've looked around the churchyard but didn't find anything. And yes, the Cock and Bottle is still open - I was there just a couple of weeks ago but the kitchens weren't open so didn't stop. I think they may have been taken over but are not yet fully operational.
Lovely walk as ever, was walking near their myself a few days ago - I am curious which app you use though as I like to identify things (especially plants) en route myself?

Thank you for your comment 😀 I think that is one of the things that intrigues me - what paths crossed and what were people like.

Yes, I've done a fair bit of research into the Dolmans 😀 Re the memorial, I have no idea what it is as there is nothing there 🤔

Have you used Dorset OPC to look for relatives
Thanks so much Eric 😀 I've done most of my research at the genealogy sites but maybe I should take a look at OPC, thank you.
Put Dolman in the search box and you will find a lot

Thank you :) For plants, I use an Ap called PictureThis
