Custom 1957 Tonka Tandem Truck and Low Boy Truck Restoration

- Hey everyone and welcome back to another restoration! In today's video I am building a custom Tonka tandem tractor trailer with desull custom lowbed trailer. I used a 1957 Tonka farms stake truck cab, bumper, and grille with a 59 firetruck frame. I based this off a classic 1956 Ford Big Job F1000. For the rear boggies, tanks, and winch I purchased reproduction parts and built the truck Tonka should have! See links below for parts. Enjoy!

Wow, I'm blown away with this custom build, I wish Tonka would have had the foresight to have done it back in the day, truly enjoyable, and maybe this project will make other restoration guys envious lol
I'm shocked the didn't. They had all the parts available already. That long frame is used on a bunch of other truck models.

What a masterpiece! If I understood correctly, this model does not exist in the TONKA range ... it's a shame it would have been a great success.
Correct, there are some similar customs out there but Tonka never made a tandem tractor

An aftermarket creation of what Tonka never marketed in 1957. The dome 🚨 is Amber, Not Red which is the appropriate color. Only Fire-Medical-Police vehicles are to have a red dome roof 🚨 light. I am glad that someone sees it

Hey Joey I love it but wondered if you could have used some old hubcaps not able to shine and painted them as they were on some of the old wheels that had those spoked axles maybe used paint markers and a nice single exhaust stack would been nice maybe used a tired crane spool and handle from a wrecker to made a winch behind the cab got the chain stainless steel jewelry chain to be able to pull equipment that broke down
ahh, rusted metal toys from the 1940s to the 1970s. they even came with the Tetanus DLC
No rust no fun!
Who knew Tonka trucks could be so easily modded? (But then these are the pressed metal, old-school toys; so it’s a given…) 🤓

I know! Unfortunately they never made one for this generation of Tonka trucks and it would be a heck of a time to make one
You should've made templates of those tandem plates and winch so you can make your own in future!😏
Next time! I think I have others around somewhere.
Love the restoration may I suggest a few ideas I thought you might used some wood grain paper and cut into strips and maybe made this into 2 parts the next a small dozer of construction equipment to be put on and chains to chain it down and found red and white for trailer lights and taillights on the trucks

14:12 It was worth cutting a place for the movement of the third axis. You have made the suspension locked and the rear wheels cannot move. Why?

You might have drill a hole small piece of chain and a peening rivet for gas Caps
Great job, but it's a 56 Ford, this was the last year of that body style, I drive a 54 F100 and you can paint it.
Thanks! Tonka was always a year behind the real ford F series. So in 57 they were making a 56 and they didn't switch over to the new body style until 58

Really nice custom! Curious how the fifth wheel and the fuel tanks are attached….just friction fit? Now you could go one step further and put custom wood decking on the trailer🍺
The fifth wheel is kind of clipped on with the tabs. The fuel tank is attached with the same screw holding down the winch doing through the fame.
