      Hi Mahya I am Igorot as well.....the reason our culture is similar is because we are all part of the Austronesian ethnolinguistic culture....according to the most recent research Austronesian peoples around the world first came through Taiwan and spread out ....for example the Mowri people of New Zealand trace their roots from Taiwan and the Hawaiian people who call themselves the Kanakana Moili (sounds like Kankana-ey doesn't it) trace their ancestory from the Mowri.....our people the Igorots of the Cordillera apparently also came from the people of Taiwan.....who knows they might come out with new research that it was the other way around that they came from us. All I know is that we are definitely related to them and must have moved to our set of mountains thousands of years ago as did the other Polynesians and over time our cultures changed over time depending on interactions between other peoples and through resources and the land...the one thing thats maintained is the connections through the austronesian languages and our DNA.

    There should be a grand meeting of all Indigenous Austronesian and Polynesian peoples in Taiwan where we can celebrate our similar connections together and respect our differences.... especially our similar designs in traditional boats!!!

      I would love this. I’ve paddled canoe all my life and have had the luxury of building some both outrigger as well as the modern sailing vessels we use to traverse the globe nowadays. And a big shout out to our austronesian ohana in Micronesia for helping us to revive our lost celestial navigational skills specifically papa Mau🫡

    14.30 of this video revealed something amazing had to replay! This is how the motuans on the coast of Papua traditional singing sounds like. It’s a very sacred way of singing when you mix this sound with the beating of the kundu leather drum of Melanesia your tears will flow because you can hear your ancestors. So now I know. Yes the coastal tribes of Papua are mixed Austronesian Polynesian people, same ancestry. Tribal tattoos, Pottery, language can feel a connection. We always knew our ancestors were mix of asian somewhere now Taiwan has just made sense of it.. Especially at 14.30. Thank you . Absolutely beautiful Taiwan. Through that distinct singing I now know where my asian ancestors came from settling the coasts of Papua. My grandmother is also mixed Malaysian and Cook island of descendant of Rarotonga from coast of Papua so this one full circle. My Respect to beautiful Taiwan rich with culture and beautiful people . 🙏Amazing !

    Nearly exactly the same as Philippine people, especially the traditions and customs of all the indigenously-cultural Philippine tribes, like the proud Igorot peoples (ifugao, kalinga, bontok, kankanaey, ibaloi, itneg, isnag tribes), the Lumad peoples (tboli, bagobo, manuvu, kalagan, blaan, higaonon, mandaya, mamanwa, subanon, matigsalug, tagabawa, tagakaolo, talaandig, teduray, and mansaka tribes), Mangyan group (hanunuo, buhid, alangan, iraya, tadyawan, taubuid tribes), and the Palawan groups (palawano, taaw't bato, tagbanwa tribes), and suludnon of panay, among many others from our 180+ ethnic groups. they are all scattered around the islands, and maintained the old ways instead of christianizing or islamizing. these traditions also were historically followed by the major ethnolinguistic groups of the Philippines like the now christianized Tagalog, Visayan, Ilocano, Bicolano, and among the now muslim groups (maguindanao, maranao, tausug, kaagan, sangil, badjao, iranun etc tribes). Don't let the Spanish names fool you, the traditions are still maintained. Historically the archipelago was mired in pangayaw/mangayaw=raiding and headhunting traditions that only stopped under the Americans in the early 20th century, and traditions of Pag-aanito (worship of anito=spirits) are still followed behind christianity or islam. The Taiwanese tribes even play the kubing/kuribaw/kolibaw, which is one of our beloved traditional instruments (jews harp in english). They also play the pestle/lusung (the name from where the island of luzon gets its name) in a rhythmic way just like the cordilleran igorot tribes do today. The Yami/Tao people are directly related to the Ivatan people of the far northern batanes islands too, linguistically and by tradition and blood. They even use the rice bale as offerings as all indigenously cultural Philippine peoples here do. Hope our Taiwanese aboriginal brothers realize their closest relatives are just south of them.

    Like some tribes old saying
    " Torang semua basudara "
    we all related..
    this are the tribes of;
    - Minahasan tribes (northern sulawesi/indonesia)
    - north to southern filipino tribes
    - Taiwanese tribes
    - Dayak tribes (from all greater Borneo indonesia/malaysia)
    - fijian/hawaiiana tribes
    - that relates also to the first settlers of northern and sourhern tribes of japan
    - the koreans
    this happen when the migration flow of central asian people (mongolian lands) to the more warmer climate lands back in 6000 - 8000 BCE
    and possibly to the great america's indian tribes.
