- Miraculous has never really been the pinnacle of animation quality, if we're brutally honest. It was always a little janky. A little rough. But I think that it has a lot of charm about it nonetheless. It was ugly, but we loved it anyway. But that doesn't mean change is bad, and the recent discourse around the new animation style for season six and beyond does have me baffled. And so here's why.

I honestly don't see much of a difference. But with this show, I'm more concerned with improving the quality of their writing.

The fandom has already forgotten that there was already a graphic change in this series (Don't you remember Adrien's chubby face from the first season? It became less round in the second season)
I think people would be ok if that was the case but these don’t look like the same characters but older. they look like younger different characters. I just don’t like how the characters were age that’s my biggest complaint.

I personally LOVE the redesigns! Usually when redesigns come into a show, people start off hating them- then they inevitably grow on them and they end up loving them more than the original designs! (Ninjago fan here)

Honestly, they brought in the film designs and it looks so much better. Like in retrospect, Kai's hair in seasons 1-7 was concerning. And then the visual upgrade for Dragons Rising is also great.

Personally, I’m among the group of people who don’t care about the art style change. I’m fine either way. I just want to see better writing going forward. I swear, for every good writing decision they’ve made to improve the show, they screw up something else.
Right I'm one of those who wants better writing because the writing was shit in S1-S5
The animation look great and the finish product will be even better.
The one thing I can say is that beside the animation I really hope the story will be a bit better going forward

I love the new animation, the OG animation will always be in my heart, people are definitely going overboard but I get It cuz It looks different but I love the new animation, I’m just glad that Adrien/Cat Noir look a lot better in the trailer compared to the poster even tho they aren’t done yet it still looks like a massive upgrade, one thing I noticed is that Adrien’s hair is longer a little bit, because I noticed normally as Adrien his hair is always above his eyebrows but now his hair covers It a bit and I also noticed his hair in the back is all around instead of how his hair normally is, I wish they kept his hair shorter like his hair normally is as Adrien, but even that change, I still like his hair, it’s just a little nit pick but still looks great, just something I noticed compared to how he looks previously, It makes since that the show is most likely heading to long term since their upping the quality so we definitely have a few more seasons until the show actually ends cuz they got a new software so definitely going for a few more seasons
The thing I got from everyone is that they expect a kids show to look jankie and bad because it's a kids show. What they don't expect is a cleaner, newer style for a kids show. So they don't like it nor expect it. They don't want their kids show to have better animation so their little guilty pleasure, gatekept show to look good for new people. Personally I'm excited by it and the software being used - Unreal Engine (Can't remember if it's 4 or 5 being used) but still it'll look great!
Like I said in the community post earlier: What gets me is that everyone is so bothered and saying the animation style is terrible like we’re gonna forget all the errors of studio DQ 😭. I think this is for the best and the characters are designed to have more mature facial structures and better represent their cultural background. Idk why they want them reverted to the bobble headed kid style it was before I guess it’s the nostalgia blinding most

Personally I am in love with the new animation style i felt like that it was time for Miraculous to adapt a new style I understand that we are not use to it yet I give it a chance I just don't understand why people hated it when season 6 hasn't even started yet I like the new designs for the characters I am keeping my fingers crossed that the writing will improve still recovering from the season 5 finale season 6 will be a breath of fresh air hopefully

My problem isn't that any of them look bad, they all look good. My issue solely comes with the fact that, of the 4 character models we've seen for it, they look lile they're from 2 completely different shows.

THANK UUUU FINALLY at first when I seen the poster I didn’t like it but after seeing what the animation actually looked like I actually like it and think it’s really good and do see a reason to hate it
idk to me it looks wayy less kiddish and it's very impressive background animation so far (I've only seen the two links on the S6 Wikia page). But it's also giving when Ninjago changed their character designs to match the LEGO Ninjago movie, so I think it's pretty neat. You can't expect it to look and stay the same forever, honestly. We've already gone through animation studio (engine?) changes in some of the later seasons, so I'm a hundred percent positive everyone will shut up once they see finished projects and get used to it, kind of like, "Oh, okay, it's not that bad."
Plus, I'm seeing a lot of hate for the new Cat Noir character in the movies relating to his skin color and hair, so I'm not surprised people are throwing hissy fits lmfao
I like the new animation it's a mix of the movie and series since it's from the animators of the movie. Marinette & Adrien do look a bit older because it does pass a few months. For the height I hope they did make Marinette seem like she grew since she is now taller than Alya. People tend to forget they're still teens and girls can still grow a bit unlike guys who can skyrocket. I didn't want to judge Chat/Adrien new look until it's animated like I did for Claw Noir. I just hope the writing is better this season
I think in their adult form we will see Adrien/Chat in the long ponytail the fans want to see. Which I think they made Adrien look the way he does now. I get people are use to seeing the same animation or the weird/bad animation like DQ. I would prefer improved and new animation to make it fluid and clean. Like in One Piece in each arc the animation got better in each arc so that's the point with tv series in each season. I just hope we get the same characters looking older and maybe a change of clothes if they do it.
I’ll have to see the leaks for myself to judge if it’s jarring or not, but I didn’t think the movie had odd designs at all. Yeah the characters do look different from the show, but enough was kept the same to where I didn’t feel weird looking at them.

as a 3d modeller and 3d animation enthusiast I definitely think that since first season the animation quality has had its ups and downs, not necessarily just improved but also worsened from time to time, depending on the studio working on the episodes, it's pretty noticeable when the animation is better or worse. for example samg is the absolute best of main miraculous as of now, taking as example the miraculous world specials and some episodes like season 4 finale, season 5 finale etc.
the matter with the fans being unsatisfied with Adrien's design so often is because he has a LOT of expectations put on, like, Marinette is quite easy to make look good, specially because the producers seem to care a lot more about her and they're always putting a lot of effort on her models. Adrien on another hand feels really weird if he doesn't look like the main show model; even though he's gorgeous in the movie he doesn't feel quite the same? but Marinette looks a lot better in the movie without feeling weird
the new style for s6 overall looks great too, but chat noir's model definitely does not look like cat noir. I mean, he literally doesn't look like the same person, while Marinette keept feeling like Marinette. idk if I'm explaining it right? obviously that's my opinion but I'm certain that others think somewhat the same
I've even seen a comment about s6 chat noir that said something like "I spent so many years drooling over chat noir, now I just can't feel the same" and I laughed my ass off
but yeah, for me basically is because I'm obsessed with every single detail and proportion of Adrien's face, and even though I desperately need and want an upgrade of his model I also need his face to be the same, just improved.. like, improve his rig, improve his shaders, make his hair more realistic, change up his ugly clothes and he's good to go, no need to remodel his entire face and make him look like a completely different person
While I’m glad we’re having a visual revival I still worry that Dwarf(the new studio) is not gonna manage to animate all of those 26 episodes in less than a year under zag’s release schedule and tight network deadlines because when looking at the new studio’s other pieces of work (Netflix’s my dad the bounty hunter) they’re able to pull off movie tier cg for a tv show of 10 episodes in 2 years whereas with zag they’re being expected to animate double the amount in less than a year. I can only see them working with less workloads if they kept the other previous studios on board to animate the new models so the new studio can have their moments to fully shine
I'm not even mad about the new art style but I'm pissed that they didn't try to give Chat Noir a new character design compared to everyone and now just looks out of place and ugly.
I just hope the writing improves but I have no faith, at this point, I feel like the show should be rebooted so the writers who know what they're doing can start over with a blank canvas instead of building on top of a foundation of dung.
a good thing to keep in mind is that animation =/= modeling style
animation = motion and movement
people are complaining about the 3d models, but we always welcome better animation
considering that the people who worked on the movie are now working on 6 I have high expectations for the animation to look a whole lot better and fluid
I don’t think we should keep our expectations high as (Dwarf) the new studio is being expected to work double the amount of episodes in less than a year compared to their usual two year production routine for 10 episodes like their previous well animated works on my dad the bounty hunter from Netflix

I think the animation is fine, but not in a series that has had one animation style for EIGHT YEARS. Just up the quality and get better animators. I, personally, have never ever seen a show completely change mid-series, it's ridiculous, I've only ever seen it if there is a big time gap (but that show never changed the style, only the outfits), which there obviously can't because we left off on a cliff hanger. And (IMO!) the new outfits are trash. Did everyone forget we saw the adult version of Ladybug and Chat Noir in Timbreaker? They're outfits were exactly the same, this show is breaking their own rules

I think people dislike that different designs of Adrien, whether for the movie or the new style, sometimes make him look more androgenous and less masculine. But since its pride month, the more chat noir looks like a lesbian icon, the better
I like the new animation style it’s just people can be so ungrateful. Idk why people hate the new animation so much but me personally I love it because we could’ve gotten a worse animation, so I would say be happy with change. Cause I’m sure the team have put a lot of work into S6 and all people seem to do is hate on the animation.
I think the reason a lot of ppl are upset with it, and the same reason i am isnt because it’s necessarily bad, but because the original animation is what everyone grew up with. It’s nostalgic and after all these years seeing them look a certain way, seeing them look any other way (for the show at least, the different animation for the movie was fine) just feels wrong.
What doomed the art style for me is that it looks like 'Miraculous: Rise of the Sphinx' which, reeked of laziness.
When Season 6 comes out, ill only watch the reviews, the show is not good enough to make me watch a full episode again.

I got into this show because it looked good but this isnt 2016 no more and even shows that are basically toy commericals (Bratz, Barbie etc) are not only better to look at, the writing doesnt take seasons to get to the point.
I think the change is needed. It’s been 9 years of the same thing. If they really want to make it good improve the bloody writing.

Dude Astruc is a WRITER. He never touched animation in miraculous. Sure he's the one who created the universe but people tend to think he's responsible for everything they don't like in the show. Like there are at least a hundred people working on Miraculous, with writers, animators, producers. Stop putting everything on his shoulders.
And how are people complaining about animation when we haven't seen the final product yet.
They literally couldn't keep Miraculous in anime style cause the dots on Ladybug's suit were very hard to animate
I've been 1000% out of the loop bc I gave up ojn Miraculous back in like... 2018, but I keep up w ur channel bc I like how u talk abt it and how realisitic u r abt it too hehe. I just googled and managed to see one image and tbh, it doesn't look bad at all. The change in 'style' literally just looks like MArinette and Adrien are high schoolers now but in the same style otherwise. I don't think it warrants such a reaction, but the Miraculous fandom has always been a bit bonkers and loyal, so I'm not surprised. Once it starts airing, whether the fandom likes th art style will come down to ONE THING: if the writing is good or not. Bc trust me, if the writing is ACTUALLY good, I can see the fandom adopting the new 'style' much better

It will take some rime to get used to the new animation but it is going to be worth it right? Sure the animation going to be used till the London Special will be last time we see it like that. It is an end of an era. But yeah i will miss the old style too.

Honestly, I like the new animation style and character design in Season 6. However, I'm more worried about the season 6's writing and characterization.

The Thing with the Animation is that ppl (incliding myself) grew up with that style like yes there isn't much of a difference but we grew up watching that front 6-16 and the fact that that'll be gone makes it hard for a lot of ppl to move on but yeah I get that the fuss abt it is a little bit out of hand

Me personally I think,especially with cartoon shows you can't change the amination style of the characters becuase then the feel and the vibe of the show is change.I will still watch the new season,i just hope the animation style doesnt change that much,the plot and character arc are most important.
I still think that Adrian should have been the main protagonist, he’s just much more interesting than marionette. Marionette’s character writing is what made the whole series unbearable to watch. I’m just here to get an ending but I don’t expect to be satisfying or exciting at all, I’m already too deep in 😅😂
I am fine with aging up the characters but the new style just doesn't give the same vibe as the show. I see it and the movie part of an alternate universe. It just isn't the same. Adrien especially looks younger, more feminine, his eyes are horrible. If they changed Adrien I think the backlash will die down. I want a back button, honestly. I think of the new style as Sonic the Hedgehog but in the reverse, I want the original back and I want the fans speaking up against it to help revert it back to the original with some heightened animation but not a new style. The style sucks.
I’ve gone three for three on a change in art style seeing a significant dip in overall quality for a show, with Highschool DxD, Maken-Ki, and RWBY. Hopefully Miraculous changes that trend, and the new visuals are definitely an improvement from the original, which is a change from the other three, but I can’t say I’m too hopeful.

It looks like the show, but with 1 hell of a glow up.
The only thing that looks off to me is cat noirs face. Mayby, it's just the camera angle, but his whole face looks a little off in every picture.
Just to be clear: Adrian looks fine, It's just his face proportions as cat noir that look off.

As long as it’s not a big drastic change I don’t really care too much about the animation change. The movie still looked like Miraculous and that was fine. I just want the writing and story to improve

The upgrade with the new designs and motion are closer to the shows original goals visually yet people still complain and want to keep their mobile game ad animation😭. This resistance to change is literally so similar to the backlash when SpongeBob’s animation became more dynamic and expressive after the 2015 sequel
I Might Not Mind The Animation Change (From What I Hear), But As Long As Thomas Astruc Is Gone And His Dumb Decisions Are Undone, I May Give Season 6 A Chance.
I honestly like the new styles. I mean, sure, it's not 100% done, but I honestly hope they just clean it up and leave it as is. They actually look like high schoolers now!

from what i found the animations of season 6 look quite better then the show but again leaked pictures can only tell so much have to see a prober trailer to say anything i prefer the animation of the movie i wish they would do what dreamworks did with the how to tain your dragon series race to the edge wich had great animation simula to the movies

To be honest, they need a new animation. Just like Ninjago, they change their design after the ninjago movie, and it was BRILLIANT, and even up to today, it's amazing
I think people are over reacting like it looks fine. It is still a work in progress, but just because they didn't have it written on the scene up, down, and side ways. people thought that it was the finished produced, but its not. That's why some scenes look unfished, and the movement isn't as smooth as it should be, and why the hair has no movement to it yet. it just not done yet.

I think it look good from what we can see like I said its not done yet and has things to finish, but i really do appreciate the change in style. the old style well people said it looked different then other show of it kind, i mean kind of. Like it looks better then your average kid show, but it defiantly had inspiration from Disney and anime. And other stuff like it, but it did have it own look, but so does this new show with out looking too different. It doesn't look too much like Pixar. Firstly that's i good thing if it has the quality look of Pixar, but it definitely has it own look to it, that still looks like miraculous.
i think this change was needed they need a way to make look less janky in places. And hopefully when they have finished the animation it will have even better movement. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but i only know of one studio that is working on this season and if it stays only one then there will no longer be a notable dip in quality every episode kind of like season 1. That be awesome not have 6 studio with varying quality like SAMG was the goat and the new studio that they hired last season look really close to their quality. But then then other ones.... listen before it when bankrupted DQ was getting better in quality. Still not great, but better. same with the others but i just don't think it was working. It made the animation look sloppy and inconsistent even when they got better. so this was needed change.
On to everyone favourite topic the designs. There fine I only actively dislike one of them (fun fact its NOT Adrien its Mari outfit. i think he looks his age, and the Justen beaver hair is nostalgic to me i saw that hair a lot as a kid) the rest are fine i think the poster that was released mess up people view on the season because there faces were mess up on that post some more then others (ehem chat noir ehem.) So that wasn't the best first impression but in the animation of cat look much better, and i wish it had been released first. I actually like the animation, I just think the STYLE ITSELF is way too different from the movie to the series. They could have lightly changed it, while still keeping the sprit of the last style. I feel like the heart was a little lost. I’m excited for everything else.

a bit of searching later and i did indeed stumble upon marinette's new design and personally, i like the original better. I think because of how long the characters have had these designs, the fandom has grown content with them to the point that they don't want them to be scrapped for stuff they might not like. Honestly though, i agree with you on the point that it is more of a matter of personal taste rather than the designs being objectively trashy (if there even is such a thing).
adrien....honestly, it doesn't look too great either, but that's mainly because i feel like if they were trying to make him look older, they failed miserably. all i can tell is that adrien just has a longer chin, other than that he looks even more baby-faced than the og. Still, these are UNFINISHED LEAKS (as people seem to forget) so they'll prob look better in the final product.

i don't have much of an opinion of ladybug's outfit either way bc it looks really similar to the og, aside from tinted, longer ponytails. i don't hate the new style but i don't love it either.

Honestly I don't like the Cat Noir design, Adrien is fine but Cat Noir well, not so much in my opinion. Besides that, I love the change, my only issue is the animation looks sosmetimes... too gamey? I know its Unreal Engine but it feels weird

i’m not sure why adrien character is the one to get the most unnecessary change. i still don’t like the adrien design for the movie but the other characters were gorgeous i just couldn’t get behind adrien because he felt like a different character. in this one he just looks completely different again.

I’d argue s5 and s4 were the ugliest looking seasons in terms of animation. The animation in most of those episodes was really stiff and I noticed a lot of errors (especially in the s4 ep Quillion that episode was so bad) maybe I’m wrong tho. Idk know anything about animation.
