    Would be great to see those bands alive again in SSB/CW. Unfortunately it can be very frustrating outside contests. But your / Davids design is great and hopefully will motivate OMs to become more active.

    Very cool "re"construction of the Moxon antennas.
    It's the easy entry of DIY project...so as you said...No more excuses for not operating outside with low dimension and weight antennas.
    Thank you very much for sharing your project with us.
    That's Ham Spirit at its finest.

    You do such nice work Manuel. Thank you. I knew Doug DeMaw, and you remind me of him.
    A comment for builders: Note that the antenna SWR should be tested outdoors and up in the air at least a couple of wavelengths above the ground so that reflections and absorption from nearby objects, (like the ground,) do not affect the reading.

    TNX Manuel, it is pure ham spirit to share your work and all the files you developed for free and encourage other hams to build a DIY version of this antanna. Looking forward to your next videos 👍😃,‘73‘s

    Will be building this for my university’s radio club welcome week.
    Maybe build it onsite at our booth to keep me busy just in case no one drops by to get info on the radio club 😅

    Great Video, comes at the right time - thank you very much! May I ask what type (brand) of filament you're using? Your prints seem to look absolutely awesome! Think, you mentioned in a previous video, that you are using a Prusa printer? Again, thank you.

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      On this print I´m using "Das Filament" PETG. However, while I still have my old trustworthy workhorse of a printer "Prusa i3 MK3S+" it´s currently unemployed.... I switched to Babu Lab X1C.... One hell of a printer, that makes anything else look vintage..... 73 Manuel; DL2MAN

    This is way cool!!! I never really paid attention to this type of antenna, and now you've made me curious! But this reminds me of a question I've had for a long time that nobody ever talks about. Can you give us a lesson on: gauge of wire and relationship to maximum safe PEP by wire gauge. Or reworded: minimum diameter wire gauge required for specific PEP?

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Interesting question, and I need to think about that. Shot from the hip, I´d say it´s uncritical, but this is just a belly feeling and don´t take my word for it. Will definately think about it, and come up with a satisfying answer. Thanks for the question. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN

      iam running - cause not allowed in the appartmentbuilding here - an efhw with 1:49 unun and, for "stealth-mode" with a copperwire that has only a diameter of 0.2mm. thats enough for 100watt without any problems. it doesnt glow in the dark. 😀 maybe that helps a bit

    • @KO4VNX
      @KO4VNX 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@andip4756 That is helpful! I also keep confusing myself... I think the diameter of the wire isn't my scary thought, it is the size of the core I'm using and the diameter of the wire I use to wind my transformer. That's what I need to investigate. I have a 100W rig, but I turn it down to 10W because I'm scared I will overheat the transformer.

      Hi Richard, I have 4 devices here which were all flashed by myself with the new firmware. So it was already explored a little, or do you mean making a Video ? th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=quansheng+IJV Didn´t plan on that, but if your thirst could not be quenched on TH-cam, maybe I need to do it, to show it in practice. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN

      Hi, I think they can be found in department for electrical installation. Or multi purpose material department, where you also find various profiles, like L-Shaped Aluminium rods. I bought it from Amazon (see link in the description of the print files)

    Hi could I please ask what is the total length and width of the 70cm antenna as when I tried to put it on my 3D printer the file shows as being too long to print, as the model was off the edge of the printer bed, I have a creality ender v3 which has a bed of 220x220.

    • @ammocraft

      I think the 2m design could be easily adapted to do a collapsible 3ele wire yagi.

  • @Ascania
    @Ascania 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Very nice design but the horizontal polarisation will be less than ideal on VHF.

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Don't ask my why, this has historical reasons, I can't explain but: 2m/70cm SSB and CW are always horizontally polarized, while for FM vertical polarization is being used.

    Can you provide the model of the radio again please? This can transmit on 2m ssb?

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Quansheng UV-K5(8) -> But it needs to be flashed with custom Firmware. I´m using www.universirius.com/en_gb/preppers/quansheng-uv-k5-manuale-del-firmware-ijv_v3/ It can do SSB, but that´s more DSB. (AM with suppressed carrier). It is intelligable on SSB radio, buit I would not use it in a contest, because of the double bandwidth.

    what is your favorite coax for portable operation like this on 2M?

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      RG58. Not because it´s the best, but because I have plenty of it in various lengths and it´s dirt cheap. Probably not the reply you was hoping for. But If I´d buy something specifically for VHF/UHF, I´d probably buy something in the size of RG58 with less attenuation. AT least for this ultralight portable stuff I´d not go about RG58 diameter. Plenty of options these days.... 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
