ok, don't sweat it then, as long as it is running ok. I still don't like the 0v O2 signal at WOT. Also don't forget that a stuck open thermostat can keep some of those monitors from completing.
Absolutely excellent instructional video. I wish I had a copy of the chart scan. I have been working on pre-computer and pre-EFI and I picked up the instructional video easily. Love working on cars.
Great video as always!! I just hope all the people who criticised ScannerDanner over the ETGC video for the use of a scope/scanners have watched this. This video just shows a tiny bit of how much important data you can get from a scope, which in turn helps speeds up the diagnostic procedure but more important helps find the right faulty component. I use my scope and scanners every day and wouldn't know what I would do without them, oh yes I do just change things and hope (I DONT THINK SO).

Don't panic about those two low cylinders just yet. Cylinder "wash" from extended cranking can reduce compression pressures drastically. Once you get it running, as long as it's not misfiring, you should be good to go.
Just got it running today and it cranked over a lot easier then before. Adding to my favorites Have a miss but i think it was from a loose plug wire/injector
Yes but the FLAIR-UP only happens if the engine is restarted warm, not starting from cold, if I understand it correctly; I notice it with my dodge ram v8.

Yep, Honda, Toyota, Lexus probably certain model Acuras? There were some variations to it too. As I mentioned in the video, some of them used two different pulsed ground controls. But they all have the same problem don't they....mechanical sticking of the plate.
Put as much pressure on the back of the screwdriver while turning, and make sure it's sitting squarely on the screw's. and yes they are very soft, I stripped the one closest to the firewall, so I used vise grip pliers to get it off and then replaced the screw with a new one.
Any correlation in the roughness feel when the electric cooling fan turns on? I have seen an imbalanced fan cause a roughness that can be mistaken for a rough idle.
Great video Paul, I see you have some fancy coloured leads for the pico! I'm currently sorting a idle problem on a 1200cc fiesta. It starts fine but as soon as the throttle is blipped the revs are hunting up and down between idle and 1500rpm. I'll check the wiring diagram as I'd like to look at the IAC with my pico. Hey Paul ive got a question about your voltage tests using the scope. Would the scope show you a corroded wire whilst looking at voltage? The other day i was working on a horn circuit which is a simple 2 pin horn design, where one pin is 12v constant and then the other pin is earthed when the horn button is pressed. I had the 12v constant using my multimeter and a good earth but the horn wouldnt work. Horn unit was fine and the problem was a corroded live wire. I had to independantly load test the live wire using a high watt bulb at one end to confirm the issue. So would the scope show me a flat line 12v in my scenario or with the scope being so quick would i see it glitching all over showing me i had a problem? Thanks alot
To see the corroded wire with a voltmeter, the circuit must be loaded (horn blowing). So with the horn not working, you still needed to hold down on the horn button or pad for ALL voltage tests. Did you do that?
ScannerDanner no i didnt have the horn pressed whilst checking for the perminant live feed. So i assume that is an unloaded voltage test which isnt good enough to confirm wire integrity?
That is correct my friend. There MUST be current flow for accurate voltage measurements. And when current flow cannot be established (say the horn motor itself was open), this is where a simple incandescent test light can be your best friend.
In your case, had you been pressing the horn button during your tests, you would have definitely seen the voltage drop and would have known immediately you had a wiring problem.
Good question. This would simply be circuit a design where there are capacitors and diodes absorbing the spikes or its simply a matter of the speed it is being switched on and off factored with a super low amount of current flow
@@ScannerDanner Is there any way to distinguish between a good non spike signal and a bad square wave that isn't a result of collapsing magnetic fields? No dtc could they have carbon build up from sitting up so long??
complete loss of compression, all cylinders, because the air intake passages were completely closed (stuck shut IAC combined with a dirty throttle body) The engine would start if we opened the throttle
My guess is you are using scan data to tell you the O2s have slow response? This is a misleading test. Scan data update "baud" rate can be slow on some of these older systems. What I don't like is your lean condition at WOT. This indicates a fuel delivery problem. Dirty MAF, low fuel pressure, old gas?, plugged injectors from old gas?
Hi, I have a same 02 RX300. Yesterday, I tried this myself but I couldn't remove those two bolts on the electrical part(Sensor?). How did you do it? the bolts are extremely soft and I almost stripped one of them.
what, no compression after over revving the engine? just make sure your throttle is open when you do your compression test. If it is, you have engine damage

In your case, had you been pressing the horn button during your tests, you would have definitely seen the voltage drop and would have known immediately you had a wiring problem.
Paul as always i truelly appreciate you taking the time to reply and giving me guidance. I will adjust my testing method moving forwards 👍
Thanks man!
Question: Why aren't there any spikes from the magnetic field collapsing on this square wave?
Good question. This would simply be circuit a design where there are capacitors and diodes absorbing the spikes or its simply a matter of the speed it is being switched on and off factored with a super low amount of current flow
@@ScannerDanner Is there any way to distinguish between a good non spike signal and a bad square wave that isn't a result of collapsing magnetic fields? Also, just wanted to thank you for your channel. I bought your ebook and just joined Premium. I was blown away at the thoroughness. You were born to teach!
My freelander2 v6 engen is cranking but won't start it sounds like no compression both timing belts are OK what could be the problem?
What is your compression? With the throttle open of course
@scannerdanner I have 98 mustang gt with only 65000 miles.. This car has been sitting up a while. Long story short I have driven well over 200miles in this thing.. I hook scan too livedata all 02 sensors have slow are no response at all..at wot bank 1 o2 will go 700 mv then drop to 0mv more or less with the other... No dtc could they have carbon build up from sitting up so long??
Yeh ,the throttel body clean & AC work normally .
I have an 07 Lexus IS 350 I’ve lost compression on cylinder 1 how does this cause loss of compression?
complete loss of compression, all cylinders, because the air intake passages were completely closed (stuck shut IAC combined with a dirty throttle body) The engine would start if we opened the throttle
I as well can not remove the screws and stripped both of them. Any suggestions?
What if my car had a high over extended rev before these symptoms occurred?
what, no compression after over revving the engine? just make sure your throttle is open when you do your compression test. If it is, you have engine damage
would a bad IAC cause my truck to be a crank no start
Jeremy Morrissette yes it can cause that
I'm having similar issues it won't even give throttle when my gauge is showing from 0 to 10 and a lot of shaking
I need the name of the Training center or address. Thank you
Excelente diagnòstico.
Hi Paul
Great video.I checked Johns cylinder pressure DVD.$150 is a trip for 2 all inclusive to Vegas:):)
I am a frugal(cheap)mechanic.Your book for$40 is very reasonable(I had to sell my dog to pay for it)but how often I will be doing cylinder pressure analysis?I do not have a transducer for my MODIS yet?Do you highly recommend it?If you say yes i will sell one of my kidneys and buy it:)
Or I can wait for more free upload from you.LOL
Thank you
What led you to the idle air control valve being mechanically stuck? The idle flare up on start up?
Did you watch part 1? This one was crazy
@@ScannerDanner I just realized that.😂 that was alot of vacuum on a cranking engine. I don't think I would have found that one. Probably would have pulled the timing down for no reason. Definitely sounded like timing
@@chrismay9319I was about to go down that path too!
@@ScannerDanner this is exactly why I've been watching alot of your videos recently. I had to come to terms with my limitations as a technician and I had a decision to make. Either keep doing scan tool and multimeter diagnostic or jump into the scope world and further my diagnostic education. You've been a big help with that. Great stuff and I look forward to getting into your premium channel soon! Your helping people become better technicians in a world of parts changers😁
@@chrismay9319 looking forward to having you Chris! Tons of videos here too 🙂
730 on YT and 540 on my website btw
Paul Danner I cancelled the google payment I just need to wait 3 , 4 days to get my money back in the bank and is going to be ready for your scannerdannerpremium thank you
I have a 2000 RX300. I have no heat. Any thoughts?
How does the mobile diagnostics business work?
Don't you need an attenuators for the coils?
ignition coils and fuel injectors yes, but only with my picoscope not my snap-on scopes
i have 2000 rx lexus it been in d flood it cranks as I spray cob, in d air filter
It is becoming more and more difficult to answer questions here. I have 80,000 people asking me for help now. So I have created a forum to help you guys better. It is free to join and we can exchange pictures, wiring diagrams and waveforms if needed to help guide you through the process of troubleshooting your vehicle. Thank you so much!
