Being a slow learner and finding engines very difficult to understand, you've allowed me to understand more. I'm so grateful and sincerely appreciate your professional instructions, very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks for making this video Andy. I just bought an 06 demio/Mazda with 84,xxx km on the clock and I'll be following your tips and guides like a bible :)
WAUUW! I bought a car that got the oil filter just besides the oil pan It is actually possible to engineer a car to be easy to work on in this day and age! :D
This is amazing video, I have a similar car, but 1.5l Sport. My problem is finding a good mechanic and also at a good price. You explained everything so well. I have an issue with my Mazda Demio were there is a loud drive belt noise and vibration when cold or if the car is left sitting for a while. When in neutral or in park the noise goes but there is still a vibration. If you run the car for 30-40 minutes, it suddenly becomes very smooth and runs really well. I have had the tensioner replaced, the belt replaced and even the alternator (which had an issue with the clutch bearing) but still the noise is there. I have two mechanics look at it, one even took it all a part and tested everything that the belt ran through but can't find a fault. I haven't got the cash to keep changing things out, so any ideas would be great. I don't know where you are based? Interesting that the 2006 is using the same engine thats in the 2007/2008 car. (DE)
Thank you Andy, really well done instructions, can appreciate all that you have shown as i have car knowledge myself, the only aspect that i found surprising is that you do not use a torque wrench, i have learned through my own self taught endeavours with mechanicing that not using the correct torque can cause problems, surely if you are aiming to teach an inexperienced person to service a car then torque wrench instruction is important, it`l be interesting to hear your feedback. Thanks again, Tony
Hi Tony, you are correct in what you say. Mechanics should always use a torque wrench. In my defense, the majority of viewers I imagine either don't have a torque wrench or at least one that hasn't been calibrated recently. I would always recommend viewers refer to manufacturer's specifications for all repair jobs - unfortunately I doubt this happens often. I do have lots of other videos where I do use a torque wrench and also quote the specs as I go along too... Cheers Andy
All along I was screaming "Coolant level" ha ha, and then you mentioned it in the end. Perhaps wiper blades and windscreen washer level and you have the perfect service. I love your vids mate! Cheers.
Haha, yes, I was, unfortunately running out of time with this one. The customer needed their car back so had to skip some of the checks I really wanted to film & had to just include them in my little talk at the end. You are right, wipers, washer fluid etc...its all important stuff which is often left off the more budget services. Glad you like the vids & many thanks for the feedback :-)
Adrian Daniel do you know why my demio would hold in gear too long in the lower gears the oil quality is still ok. Would it be the throttle sensor thing more so than an auto trans fault ?
Hey Andy I have a mazda demio 2005 I'm in hamiltion and currently trying to find out where to go for a full service and who is reliable. This video was super helpful thanks
Hello Andy and thank you this inspiring video. I have the same car, just with 1.25 engine. But I think all the things you have done are similar also to my engine. Anyway thank you once again and best regards from Czech republic :-)
I changed my air filter on my 2010 Mazda 2 today I and dicovered that the professional machanic that fitted old one had fitted it in wrong round thankfully I had watch your video beforehand and noticed his mistake
A lot of major mechanics get their apprentices to do services & other such menial tasks. Best you do those yourself & then leave them the more complex breakdowns.
I wonder if I can just replace the whole fascia and climate controls with the factory setup from a 2007 demo. If yes that would make this work much more simple.
Thanks for the great video! Was looking something about oil replace but found more useful info. I wonder if you could make more videos on this model, like gearbox oil replacement. Thanks!
Hi Andy, I have a mazda 121 metro 2001 and I'm having trouble finding where the cabin air filter is located. Do you have any idea? I would assume behind the glove box but I can't see anything that resembles a spot for it. Thanks.
Hi Christine, there is a chance that model doesn't have one? It's a basic car & given the age may not have had that system fitted. Hope that's of help Andy
Hi there Ive got a 2007 demio like this .I came across this video as I wanted to do my own atf . I pored atf in and had the level on 20c when car is off and cold . I started car an changed the gears like in vid and then it showed no reading on dipstick . Then I added more atf and its on 20c on max level while cars running . Switched car off and rechecked the level when it stood for 2 hours . The dipstick level was all the way passed the 20 and 65 mark . Is this correct or is there to much fluid in transmission . This is now my first attempt at doing my own atf . I have always changed my own engine oil and oil filter . This is new to me . Would really appreciate it if you could tell me if this is normal that level is so high when cold and on 20c when gears have been changed like in vid .
Just a thought here what is your opinion on adding a bit of diesel fuel into oil sump and let engine run a few minutes before draining out the oil, as I thought diesel is a good flushing agent, your thoughts please- excellent video Thku
Oh....the transmission filter wasn't due for a change at this service. When it comes back in for its next service I'll do that for sure. However,,this car is used by an old lady and she covers very few km each year. Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated. Cheers Andy
Andy Mechanic that's OK! Just needed to know how much to put inside as I've never changed my transmission filter before and my book is written in Japanese/Chinese

Hi, you need to have the engine running & go through all the gears first to get the correct level. You will always get an over high level when the engine is off. Hope this helps Andy
Hi Andy! Thank you so much for this video it's a beaut! Can I ask where you buy your new sump plug washers? Not sure what size and where to buy them in Auckland. Thanks!
+TheLordMango Hi, pleased you like the video. You should be able to buy them from any Motor Factors such as Repco, Super Cheap Auto, Autostop etc....anywhere that sells you the oil filters should have them. Or, if you are after an assorted box of sump plug washers call ISL Industries (contact details in credits to my videos), they sell them too. Hope this helps. Cheers Andy
I'm pretty sure the Demio is sold as the Mazda 2 in North America, and if that's the case, the fuel filter SHOULD be tucked along the right side of the car beside the fuel tank, between the tank and the suspension support arm. You'll likely have to take the right rear wheel off to see it, and it may be hiding in a plastic cover. Then again, we only get the 2-door version of the Mazda 2 here in the States, so it may be a very different layout underneath from this nifty 4-door you've got here!
Yes, I think it is the Mazda 2 in quite a few Countries. With regards the fuel filter, I searched high and low under that car, I followed the fuel supply line from above the tank all the way to the fuel rail & no filter. Like you say, just like the forums I read up on, most have it just inside the wheel arch at the rear but not this car! It must either be in the tank, which personally I doubt, of mounted between the tank and the floor pan. Either way, it wasn't going to get changed, not this time round anyway! Thanks for the heads up.... Cheers Andy :-)
+Arnel Valeriano usually a thermostat is located at the engine block end of the top radiator hose. Sorry I don't know exactly on that vehicle but if you go onto Google images and search that you should get a good idea. Hope this helps. Cheers Andy
Greetings Andy, could you tell me what kind of oil does the automatic transmission of the 2006 Mazda demio use? Another question would be, where can I buy the service manual? thank you very much, greetings from Dominican Republic
Change oil every 10.000 km 5w30 mazda certified Trannyoil every 40.000 Sparkplugs every 40.000 lube brakes once a year Change brakefluid plus coolant every 3 years or every year if you're like me Change air filter every 40.000 These things are what i follow dear to heart
Most basic services are just glorified oil changes and checking/topping up fluid levels. Bit of a scam half the stuff they check is done on a wof check anyway
+Internet Guru Maybe, just maybe they have Electric power steering...that was about the time manufacturers started shifting to the non hydraulic type. Cheers Andy
thanks for ur video. I bought a 2005 demio with 1.3L engine in Auckland. I found my car's fuel consumption is poor, like 8+L/100km. I just drive it in Auckland. Is that a common level or it means I need to replace some parts of my car, spark plug or somethings else? cheers
+方言 that is high fuel consumption indeed but could be down to any one of many possible faults. Maybe your o2 sensor, throttle body, map sensor, TPS, idle speed control valve....the list goes on. It may be a blocked air filter or a blocked exhaust....need to do checks. ..
I think my car is not controlled by electronic throttle? sorry, I am not sure the name of it, because the throttle can be controlled by a steel wire in engine compartment. Is the structure one of the reason of poor consumption? by this structure, there are still that many senor stuff? thanks a lot!
Well....they are pretty complicated, usually many wires intersecting various circuits in the loom to prevent the engine from starting & running. Often immobilizers will prevent the starter motor been energised. They often also cut power to the ignition coil primary & injectors too. Just 'removing' an immobilizer isn't that easy - for obvious reasons! Now some will have an over-ride key. If it has a lock on the side of the immobilizer box & you still have the key then you can turn off the immobilizer. Other than that you have a big job ahead of you unfortunately. Good Luck Andy :-)

I genuinely thought he was British until he said he’s in New Zealand 🇳🇿😂
Born in Kendal & lived in England until 2009 :-)

Hi Andy new sub here great video thanks for sharing, could you tell me where the thermostat is located on this car thanks
Changing plugs on a 4 banger should be easy lol but Mazda made it difficult unbelievable
what size and type of sump plug washer did you use ?
As is often the case, the sump plug washer wasn't replaced, though it should be. Parts guy didn't order.....again!

Damn it, that LOGO down right is hiding too much...
So where is the actual location of the fuel filter in this model?
found out its in front of the tank towards the front end
Could also just have taken out 1.2 litres from the 5 litre bottle and then poured
Directly from the oil bottle. 😉
Yes
Loved the video, thank you
Where u based?
Not too far from Taupo New Zealand
I wonder if you could help me, does this car have a crank sensor? many thanks
