Nice reaction! I love Martirio too! The riff, the rhythm, the melodies going up and down like waves, the bass runs… they wrote around 40 to 50 songs yet, only two in Spanish, Martirio and Narcisista, both belong in their Top 10! Did you check Narcisista yet, ForoDiDi show? Paulina sings lead! It’s a rocking middle finger to their domestic critics that they don’t sing in Spanish… great rock attitude! 👍⚡️🤘
this song is SOOOO good!!!!! so much emotion!!!! i believe that if this song was in english that this song would have easily been a top 10 and their popularity would have exploded!!!! that emotional scream at the end gets me every time!!!!
There was a spanish rock band in the 90s called Heroes del Silencio, the sound of which I get a lot of callbacks to in Martirio. Needless to say they were great, but the warning is even better. Would be curious to see if they know about them, my guess would be yes.
I don't think this song gets enough love. Whenever I see videos from reactors new to The Warning, it's almost always Evolve, Choke, or Disciple. Not that those aren't great songs, but Martirio is just as powerful in it's own way.
The last TW song you hear, is always your new favorite. Weird but true. ❤🔥 This one is a certifiable Banger for me. As others mentioned, it's an anthem for sure. 🤘
My favorite song! I can't pick a top ten of The Warning songs because there are so many great ones, and no bad ones, but Martirio for me, is just a step above. Thanks Jimmy for another great The Warning reaction!
Martirio is an international Rock Anthem! For me personally, this is TW’s Free Bird. And as a life long Skynyrd fan, that’s the highest praise I can give any song. The Warning make my life better every single day!
That is a fascinating comparison and though I personally don't understand it I can recognize what that means to you and think that's awesome 100% respect
@@jakehodgson82 Thanks Jake, I know most people won’t agree but that’s part of the fascination with music, how it hits everyone different. I picture the end of Martirio being extended when performed live with the crowd chanting the gang vocals with Dany’s wailing guitar ending at a fever pitch.
@@RandyTWA when they headlined in a tiny club near me, I hoped they would play Martirio. It might be my voice yelling, “Martirio!” In the video. And they did. I sang those gang vocals full blast. Great reaction. Loosely the song is about being alone with your fears and anxieties, so you got the vibe perfectly with the motorbike analogy. Hell of a ride isn't it this The Warning journey. ❤✌🤘
Still my favorite song on the ERROR album even though I don't understand Spanish. The music is so dramatic sounding I imagine it as the soundtrack for the climactic scene of some epic adventure movie. I'm always surprised when they don't include it in the setlist of their live performances.
I first heard this song with just Dany singing a short acapella version. It's definitely worth a look, as it gives a good sense of her power and personality: th-cam.com/video/p0SmtMQEc1E/w-d-xo.html It's also worth it to take a look at the translated lyrics. They lose a lot of their beauty in translation I'm sure, but they still land a solid punch. Brutal, wise, and honest lyrics from these girls. This was a favourite the first time I heard it. The song also uses some musical ideas that were both new to me, and that I could not find covered by basic theory, indicating a willingness to think outside the box and to trust their ears. I often find unexpected things in their music, but this song was particularly interesting to me.
Justin, I hope everyone who hasn’t seen this acapella version (and even people that have) take a few moments to watch. You nailed it, Dany is power and personality. You want chills and feels? Take Justin’s advice and watch.
Apparently, Dany originally recorded the vocals for this track with just David their producer in the room but when Pau listened to them back she said they were awful and that Dany had an American accent. She made her record it again telling her to pay particular attention to the Spanish pronunciation. Pau is a perfectionist and I suspect that she is going to be a really big rock producer at some point.
😂. I recall an aftermovie short that they uploaded during their Mayday tour where Pau and Ale are making fun of Dany’s accent while singing Martirio and Dany yelling (jokingly) at them to shut up. The teasing was so funny and cute.
I remember a while back Dany was taking an online course in music production. I can certainly believe that both would be superb producers. It's always hard to tell with Ale because she's so quiet, but I suspect she's the sort who only speaks up when she has something to say -- and when she does, you had better listen to it.
I know every word of this song but I have no clue how to speak Spanish. This breaks every barrier. The video is flawless. Fun fact, Pau said recently that this is her favourite song that Dany sings.
This is a great song. It was shot in the desert near their home in Monterrey. It took them all day to shoot. It was hot (113 degrees), windy (the white fabric on the tent frame was not supposed to be shredded but the wind did that) and they had to avoid wasps. Honestly, the video wasn't big budget. All of their videos are designed to get the most out of the shoestring budget because they wanted to make as many music videos as possible to promote their songs. And it helps having Rudy as their manager because he has experience working on feature films in Hollywood. He worked on Titanic, for example. So, he has the connections to make things happen. I don't know for certain, but this may be the first song that composed for Error as they were playing an early version of it on their tour of Argentina over a year before they entered the studio to record it. They have played it on tour in the US, though it isn't in regular rotation for them outside of performing in Latin America. But whenever they do play it, it is cool to see so many native English speakers singing along with it.
I've been a fan of their music for a couple of years but this MV slipped past me somehow. And what a magnificent song! Thanks for reacting to this. Nice that they can evoke deep emotion in you and make you think of a particular good time. What I see most in all these female bands we all love and appreciate (well, after the superb musicianship!) is positivity in everything they do. And a lack of ego, even though they'd deserve to be strutting around like the Rock and Metal Godesses they all are.
This song does have a feel to it. I grew up and still live in Minnesota so we don’t have much in the way of deserts, so it has a kind of mythical quality. The location was fairly remote but there is a video by a guy that flies his ultralight aircraft over the hills NW of Monterrey and he found the circle of sticks that they stood in while filming. It looks completely untouched two years later. I just found that pretty cool.
Martirio is their second song recorded in Spanish, though the first they wrote in Spanish. The first song they recorded in Spanish is "Narcisista", released as a single in 2019. It is in response to those who criticized them for only writing songs in English and being cultural sellouts (malinchista is the word they use in the song), and to those bands who turned their backs on them when they walked off stage for being females playing rock music. From the Mayday EP this is my top favorite song, on the Full Error Album it is tied at Number 2. Such a beautiful song, sung in a language I do not speak but I do not care because it is such a great song, proving that music has no language barrier. So there you go, Jimmy. I don’t care what language these ladies use to perform with, they are incapable of producing a ‘bad’ tune. I have not been this inthralled with new music since I sat cross-legged on the living room floor at the age of 10 and watched The Beatles blow up the TV on Ed Sullivan. All the young girls were screaming and wetting themselves. Now it’s us old guys turn. I am waiting with bated breath for my Warning lunchbox...

Fun Fact: Originally Martirio was the song DPA wanted to release first off their 3rd album. I think they originally wanted the LP title to be Martirio. It is an anthem, from Ale’s bass to Dany’s riff and soaring vocals to the drum pattern that Pau plays throughout. Throw in the choral audience participation and it makes for one of my personal favorites. Just recently at the Vampire concert they were running short on time and had to cut the full version so they could keep Evolve as the closer. But this is both a fan and a DPA favorite so Dany did a portion acapella and the whole audience joined in. I’m tearing up just thinking about just how moving and special it was. Great reaction Jimmy. This was my second least favorite song on Mayday. Live (in Boston), however, it was just out of this world and I considered it my second favorite song (only to Survive) at the concert, which included the likes of Dull Knives and Evolve. They didn't really change anything up, but Dany's voice is stronger than when she recorded it, and her passion really comes through live in a way that it can't on a recording. I really like the ending, as her voice is soaring over the background vocals, and then she continues the rising line on her guitar. I think this is her best vocal song to date. The beginning has a strong classical feel to it, which adds considerable interest, before the rock part takes off.
This song MARTIRIO carries much more weight when you understand the lyrics Jimmy - Martirio English translation *Martyrdom = Pain - Torment - Suffering * Even though the Spanish word martirio literally translates to the English word martyrdom, the English word martyrdom has a different meaning than the Spanish word martirio. The Spanish word martirio just means pain, torment, and suffering. It is not associated with 'suffering for a noble cause' the way it is in the English language. Lyrics- Sometimes the obvious things are the most difficult to see You suffocate with your own hands When everything points that finally someone will rescue you You find yourself abandoned again Drown yourself in your painful suffering torment It's your destiny, give in You try to find an explanation in the deepest of your being And you fall into the void again At last you realize in secret that the pain will stay Will be your new life of suffering torment There's no turning back, you can't escape from the fire at your feet And in the darkness, you'll get lost Drown yourself in your painful suffering torment It's your destiny, give in (guitar solo) Sometimes the obvious things are the most difficult to see (walk down bass line) Drown yourself in your painful suffering torment It's your destiny, give in Learn from the ones who suffered If you have to live in fear, it's best to die at the hands of a goodbye To your sad life, foolish martyr, say goodbye Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Whoa Ah (guitar solo) Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh 🗣 Excellent reaction Jimmy! This song MARTIRIO carries much more weight when you understand the lyrics Jimmy -
Martirio
English translation
*Martyrdom = Pain - Torment - Suffering
* Even though the Spanish word martirio literally translates to the English word martyrdom, the English word martyrdom has a different meaning than the Spanish word martirio. The Spanish word martirio just means pain, torment, and suffering. It is not associated with 'suffering for a noble cause' the way it is in the English language.
Lyrics-
Sometimes the obvious things
are the most difficult to see
You suffocate with your own hands
When everything points that
finally someone will rescue you
You find yourself abandoned again
Drown yourself in your painful suffering torment
It's your destiny, give in
You try to find an explanation in
the deepest of your being
And you fall into the void again
At last you realize in secret
that the pain will stay
Will be your new life of suffering torment
There's no turning back, you can't
escape from the fire at your feet
And in the darkness, you'll get lost
Drown yourself in your painful suffering torment
It's your destiny, give in
(guitar solo)
Sometimes the obvious things
are the most difficult to see
(walk down bass line)
Drown yourself in your painful suffering torment
It's your destiny, give in
Learn from the ones who suffered
If you have to live in fear, it's best to
die at the hands of a goodbye
To your sad life, foolish martyr,
say goodbye
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
Whoa Ah
(guitar solo)
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
🗣 Excellent reaction Jimmy!
There is a fan of The Warning who is a para-glider. He went looking for the exact location the music video was shot... and found it. He uploaded #2 videos. Make sure your English subtitles are turned on-

This is a song, that you don't need to understand the language, music takes care of that.
