I never realised how much of a great player Gasquet used to be back in 08. Definitely underrated.

This gasquet was the best version of gasquet and everyone thought he was gonna be in top 5 for long but then that cocaine incident and after the suspension he was never really the same. But before the suspension, considering gasquet and rafa are the same age, in 5 out of their 6 meetings gasquet took a set. So he was a big rival for rafa back then.

Exactly. If you watch the blurry 30fps footage from Los Cabo’s or Atlanta you forget that we live 2021. And the fact that we can only watch Centre court matches in 60fps is pretty hilarious

Rafa now may have lost speed and footwork but definitely has improved his precision of shots.
His footwork is as good as it’s ever been. Speed is mainly what he’s lost, however he’s a lot more aggressive so he doesn’t necessarily need to be as fast

@@kryptonian1371 I'm amazed how good it looks compared to other tournaments of the time, it even looks better than a good number of ATP tournaments today. They seriously need to have something like standardised camera quality across all tournaments.

Miss the days when Gasquet had this spunkiness about him, a troublemaker on the court kind of feeling. Remember him spoiling Federer's ascent to godhood at Monte Carlo 2005 hitting line after line. He looks tired these days, probably due to age and all the injuries, but what a player still! Love it!

That's why they say- sports is cruel. It takes years of hard work to achieve something remotely on the professional level but just some injuries or problems in your life to ruin your career.

It's interesting how people's body shape changes over time. Nadal has definitely filled out a lot.
I wouldn't say so, it's really about clothing and style. Modern clothes makes him look fuller, while he used to wear super tight pants and tank tops back in the days. He was also learner in 08', which makes him look bigger now days.

He plays smarter in 2019 but not better. Look his deep returns near the baseline, his powerful serve and his speed in 2008... It's day and night with 2019. I take 2008 nadal anytime.

He's content with making showboat shots that are low %, and being satisfied with falling short, when he should be more focused on the game. Women are a huge distraction for him and it's what he has chosen.

wow, so many unforced errors. Nadal was not playing well at all. Gasquet has had trouble winning a set off of Nadal so he did well.
Fortunately he upped his game and won the next 2 sets 6-2, 6-1.

@@pauljohnson6019 Interestingly enough, Nadal seems physically less muscular than he was 15 years ago. He knows more about the game now but he's thinner now and maybe has less raw power.

A low quality tie-breaker imao. Both failed to hit winners at crucial moments. Richard finally clinched the set with a winner.
