Highlights like these really remind me that prime Murray was an absolute monster. It’s just that his greatness is eclipsed by the giant shadow cast by the big three. Every single member of that illustrious trio is an anomaly in their own right
murray is extremely overrated..he was a physical monster and a great returner/defender , he never had ANY spectacular shot making or creativity. Just pure speed and resilience
@@VladRadu-tq1pg You clearly didn't watch the video
Crazy how Andy could've probably won at least 6-8 slams and a career grand slam in any other eras but only got 3 in the golden age of tennis
True, but he did get two singles gold medals which definitely helped his legacy.
This era with all 4 guys playing so well was the best 5-6 years in tennis history. And this tennis is so much more interesting than today’s game.
Can't imagine having to fight this hard for a single point!!
My thoughts exactly, both players had to work for every point its insane. In the 3rd set you can finally see a decline in Murrays fitness and thats when Nadal finally got some "free" points.
Miss you on the court Rafa
I remember this match like it was yesterday. Murray ended his post AO-final loss slump with a great run to the semis in MC and gave Rafa a great fight which was indicated by his practice sessions with him during that week. Crazy how quickly 13 years can pass by. Even crazier that these two are barely still on tour, but sad they're both very likely to retire this year.
The biggest difference compared to 2024 is the amount of hair for both :)
Yep, Nadal seems like Smeagol nowdays
And their entry status to the tournament
wrong. Net worth
People snide at including Murray in the Big4 discussions. But forget his numerous ATP titles, 2 Wimbledons & 2 Olympic Golds.
Most difficult feat in all of sports:
Defeating Rafael Nadal on clay
Andy Murray played so well and went toe-to-toe with Rafa the first two sets, and Nadal in the third just said enough is enough. Nadal is just plain ridiculous on clay, especially in his younger days.
That forehand forehanded in that match. Holy shit!
I really miss one thing so much in today’s game that back in those days there were hustle, atmosphere and excitement in the game that I don't get in today's game
Murray did give Rafa some tough battles on clay including Rome 2014, RG Semi 2011 though it was a straight set win for Rafa. plus he beat him in Madrid twice on clay
It was amazing! Thanks!
Epic! This match inspired me to buy that Murray Head Monstercombi tennis bag I still use to this day, although the straps and zippers are falling apart (if anyone at Head is listening to this, please send me a replacement before I switch over to Yonex lol)
These 2 guys are monsters
I think this is the best Murray's match on clay against prime Nadal
I mean, I know that he won against him in Madrid 2015 and 2016 but Nadal wasn't in his own best version
Even though Nadal won in straight sets, their match at RG in 2011 was also very high quality tbf. Murray ran him close at Rome 2014, too.
@@SteveCk-qu7vz U r right,I completely forgot that match in Rome 2014,one of the most spectacular
@@SteveCk-qu7vzRG2014 is one of Nadal’s best performances ever imo. The way he demolished Murray with the forehand was insane to watch
Nadal is another class player
Ps. Watch out for Tsitsipas in Monte Carlo
Any other era Murray has at least 15 slams.
If he stayed injury free from 2016 onwards he would be near 10
Never. He was mentally weak.
@@masters.1000one of the worst takes I’ve ever read
@@cameronpollock1889 Then you haven't watched anything back then.
Murray could have beaten the Big 3 plenty of times, had the the level to do it but lacked the courage. If finals like Shanghai 2012 or Australia 2013 aren't enough, then I don't know what to tell you.
@@masters.1000 2 Olympic golds, a Davis cup, and 3 slams - 2 against Djokovic in the final say otherwise but keep being deluded mate
@@robertsontheweegie9491 Oh ok, the hurricane match of 2012 and the final of 2013 when Đoković didn't even competed because Del Potro drained him.
Also a final against Federer who had nothing left because of Del Potro too, and another final because Del Potro was also done and without a backhand (and even so, Murray almost lost the match).
Keep deluding yourself, he was never going to be anything big the way he kept playing when it mattered.
Peak tennis.
I miss this period of tennis 😢😢
Does anyone know what round this was? Quarters, Semis?
Semi
Andy Murray was a very good player in his prime. Too bad that he had to play in an era with the big 3 or he would have had an even better career.
Does anyone know whether Rafa will play at Monte Carlo this year or not? No updates on social media😢
Last I heard he's playing the Barcelona Open which runs from 13 - 21 April but his schedule is subject to change at any time.
I hope he plays a wc in rome
I think he's waiting for a report by his doctors to make sure he's fit before he decides on Monte Carlo
Nope.Barcelona,Madrid and RG...hip permitting
He officially announced that he can't play monte carlo
Professional tennis / Amateur commentators with nothing of interest / value to say
Rafa had 9 slams during this match if Iam counting it right
10 slam
@@quangle6854 No bro by here he was having 5 RG, 2 Wimbledon, 1 AO and 1 USO
This commentator has a clear Murray bias
I dont miss this era of tennis. Because the Williams girls owned the wta and Federer was practically unbeatable at times. Love it now where any woman can win and lotsa parity in the atp as well.
Federer was not unbeatable in 2010, 2011, 2012 at all. This was 2011. He won 0 slams that year and 1 in 2010 and 2012
@@IDontGetTired11 what about my comment on Tsipsitas in Monte Carlo? I'm taking the next week off work $$$
رافا❤❤
Les VCT ce sera pas pareil que sur NBA 2k ils l’ont bien précisé! Et les graphismes et le roaster s’explique par le manque de moyen financier et a voir comment le jeu va se vendre pour améliorer
Rafa ' s expression at the last point and then after...un expected..he hurt may be..
Murray’s hair looks ridiculous. Other than that I’m impressed by both players. Thanks for the update!
After nadal retires the tennis is going to be boring. The popularity is going to drop significantly.
All boring players era started.
If not for injuries Murray would have won atleast 10 GS
No
Nah
Why not??! In 2017-19 he can probably win 5 due to Djokovic's absence and Federer's decline lol!!! Of course no chance on clay as we have Nadal and Thiem.
Nonsense
No
Back when Murray was at his near-absolute peak and was ceaselessly expected to win his first major (first British man since Fred Perry in 1936 to win a major) but couldn't get the job done because of the insane big 3 gods. Murray would go on to push Djokovic to his limits at Rome 2011 semifinal just about a month later. And he would also go on to reach the semifinal at 2011 Roland Garros after another month only to lose to Rafa again.
2011-2012 seasons were full of bloodshed among the big 4 members; at least 3 out of the big 4 members would reach the semifinal or better at every single slam from AO 2011 until Wimbledon 2012. And then Murray would capture his first ever major at the 2012 US open.
These two's rivalry is extremely underrated. Miss the two legends at their absolute prime as shown in this match in 2011.
Really, by which rating metrics?
@@lilyleon1475 You would probably know if you watched tennis since the early 2000s
@@TheseHoesAreLoyal I've been watching tennis since the late 70s as a matter of fact. However, this is irrelevant. I asked how you measure underrated and by which metric, other than just your opinion
@@lilyleon1475 My comment was simply implying that, if you have watched men's tennis closely since even the 2000s, you would know by now that their rivalry is for sure underrated and not talked about enough, despite their intense encounters at big tournaments especially in 2008-2015. The fact that you watched tennis since the 70s and would arrive at a conclusion that I'm merely stating a biased opinion of mine is cringe and unimpressive, really.
@@TheseHoesAreLoyal - Sir, you began by stating, without any basis I might add, that "These two's rivalry is extremely underrated"
I have asked you to provide the statistical metric used to express such a claim.
You cannot provide a valid one, so have opted to give me your opinion based on number of years of viewing tennis.
It goes without saying that you're talking complete nonsense and you should retract your initial claim, or qualify it by adding that this is merely your opinion.
Good Day
