Disagree.....it's one of the greatest love ballads in all of music...
If you can't feel this you're either too young or have no soul.

    • @bosslady7611
      @bosslady7611 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@bf0189 I'm not sure if your comment is in response to mine, but I agree with you. It's definitely one of the greatest ballads in ALL of music. I mentioned the genre of soul music because only the true lovers of soul music really know this song. When I was a child, my mom would get so emotional about this song, and I didn't understand until I became an adult and went through my own painful experiences with love. Also, my mother was rotten to my father. Reluctantly, he finally left her. So now I understand why this song meant so much to her. She was wrong, and she lost a good man because she refused to be a good woman. I'm approaching 50, so I'm no spring chicken. I've been married twice, and I have 5 daughters. I know a thing or two about love and loss. Unfortunately, a lot of younsters don't respect or listen to old school music. Fortunately, my girls do. I exposed them to the good stuff early on. Marvin Gaye, Stephanie Mills, The Isley Brothers, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Earth, Wind, and Fire, The Ohio Players, The Emotions, Cameo, The Temptations, Parliament, Teddy Pendergrass, Luther Vandross, Betty Wright, Bobby Womack, Natalie Cole, The Chi-Lites, Al Green, The Dells, The Delphonics, Zapp, and so many more. Soul music is food to my soul, and I am fed very well. My compliments to the chefs for the most satisfying feast ever....soul music💯👏🏾🫶🏾

The emotional gravitas conveyed by legendary soul man Isaac Hayes is visceral in the delivery of this classic , a true moment in time is created when feeling the impact is grounding often reducing the listener to tears ,few artists ever came this close to absolute perfection .

This song will literally bring tear to your eyes. if you have ever been in love and got to a point that you were not going to take the mess no more but was still frighteningly in love- this is your song. when we tell our friends what happened, we are tough, but when we get by our self at night- that is when the weakness and the tears show up. ooooooo by the time I get to Phoenix...that was so sad but sometimes life will take you down that road and you have to decide " what you gonna do."

As a young boy this song was very painful to hear for I knew exactly what the words meant and the length it took for the song to end. The only thing I didn't know decades later is that this song has a greater meaning now. lf you every been played a fool in a relationship you will know why it took 18:51 minutes. I will say this, When it's time to go, it's really time to go and don't look back.

Tragically, l can really relate to this song. It brings back vivid painful memories whenever I hear it. It's genius the way Hayes expresses this nightmare experience of the unrequited love of a betraying wife. But I can look back at it now with no pain. However, that experience of a broken heart literally almost killed me. It was like a bad LSD trip that I couldn't come down from that lasted for years. Thank God Almighty that time heals all such wounds. It's been about 23 years ago now. But I truly almost didn't make it. I will NEVER allow myself to go through that horror again. NEVER AGAIN! I look back at it now and I can't even fathom how I could allow myself to be so emotionally attached to a woman. My God, she was just another human being. And believe it or not I still dream about her regularly even though I no longer consciously think about her. I never had another relationship after her. Actually I'm not capable of being in love like that again. Romantic love is too scary. I was only married to her for about 7 years but knew her since we were children. We lived together for about 5 years before we got married. Goodness I loved her. Way too much. Lol. Crazy! But look, I can even laugh about it now. Something niether me or anyone else thought would ever be possible. Rest in peace Mr Isaac Hayes. You were truly a man of wisdom, compassion, empathy and understanding.

    • @teri7206

She wasn't just another human being, but she was your One Flesh; that is what God has done: the joining of one man and one woman in holy matrimony as One Flesh. The one flesh of you and wife was TORN ASUNDER by Adultery. Thus the insufferable, unfathomable, incredible, gruesome, pain. I speak from the other end as a woman who has endured that agony. Without God, it is Impossible to truly heal. Am so happy, so thankful, and so glad, that with God, All Things are Possible. Even restoration and reconciliation. I am a witness.

I had never heard anything like this ever and at an impressionable age, this album made me so aware of all instruments being played and all arrangements. Now that I'm 49 years old, I never get tired of listening this historic album. I approach my band with the idea of being creative and thing deeper in to the meaning of performing songs from a different angle. Isaac Hayes is my ultimate musical mentor.

I remember this 70's song. Didn't like it much then.
Now that we're in the midst of covid - 19, I have so much more time on my hands.
I love the song now and have taken the time to listen to each individual instrument. This is probably not all the instruments but this is what I found:
The violins were sangin, trumpets on point, piano resonating, organ on blast, flutes oscillating and the drums on target.
The musicians and singers were truly genius back then.

This is how i got me a copy of Isaac Hayes... Was with my dad to buy some cd's at a local music store, and as we walked in this song was playing. I immediately told my dad that we are adding The Hayes to our collection! My my my, you'd drive a distance of about 110km just playing only 2 songs👌🏾💯

Every time I hear this, reminds of those overnight hauls my father used to have. He would play this in his truck. The song put me at ease. Mr. Hayes and my Pops are gone now. Born in the same year. R.I.P. To BOTH of them. I miss them dearly. Also, it would've been Isaac's birthday today. Happy Earth Day, Mr. Isaac Hayes. Rest well, sir...

My brother was a quadriplegic. After a car accident. So I went back to school to take care of him. it was 1993. He stayed in the hospital a couple of years when he got out I went back to school and took care of him. I remember he wanted to hold the joint on his lips to smoke it as to let him be a man. It was a very sad and hard times for me to get over the fact that my brother couldn't move nothing but his head. So I had my own TV show at that time. One day I was listening to this song by the time I get to Phoenix by the late Isaac Hayes and it brought back so many beautiful memories growing up in the 70s. So it took me 1 year to make this song the way I wanted it to be on VHS. That was the biggest surprise I gave to my brother. I put him in the driver's seat on TV. For one year I had drove my car with the camcorder in the dashboard through the rain the thunder lightning the snow the fall the winter the spring the summer. On the highway you could see the signs such-and-such 14 miles such-and-such 90 miles such-and-such 22 MI. And then I put those videos all together and I played by the time I get to Phoenix. I put this song to those videos and line them all up the way I wanted it for my brother. My brother loved it and actually felt like he was driving again after so many years of not being able to do nothing. I still have this VHS tape. It was a gift to my brother who passed away in 2000. I just wanted to share this with you to let you know just how much I valued the late Issac Hayes. As a matter of fact I played Shaft on TV back in the 70s. And the song was shaft. I had my daddies black hat black leather coat black pants black shoes and black cane and I played that part to the fullest. Thank you Isaac Hayes for so much great memories you will always be a legend in my heart. God bless you for so much you've done for so many people. Music and Joy. Carry on

Thanks for your memory. You memorialize your brother so well.
This song brings me to tears when I have the courage to listen to whole 18min. Got alcohol poisoning while suffering one of my first breakups with a live in gf. Was tipsy when I called late one night after she moved out. A guy answered and heard her speak disparaging of me . She used me because her folks hated me . Gave her and apartment in west village nyc, tuition to nyu and stipend to leave me. I lost it and drank 2 quarts of zebrovka vodka in 12 hours. Woke 48 hours later in vomit
Took 3 days to recover. Never regretted her leaving again. Thanks for the venting. It has been 50 yrs.

This brother is deep! My brother, Isaac Hayes, is one of the brothers that I idolized as a child. From his bald head to his singing, he and Barry White, are two brothers, whose music had a profound influence on my life, especially when it came to matters of the heart. (GOD -BLESS-YOU-BOTH). R.I.P. Isaac Hayes.
