      No man should be swayed just because a woman told you to shave your beard completely off. Never, ever do that. It's YOUR hair NOT hers. You're allowed to do whatever you want to you're hair.

    I have experienced receding hairline for so many years now so I just shave my head and never thought of growing a beard. Just 2 months ago I thought why not grow a beard since winter is approaching here in Colorado and see what happens. And Man I'm so happy now especially after sticking it out through the rough phases. Now my level of confidence has sky rocketed because I have hair on my head again but it's on the south side. Thanks for a very informative video! And my beard is helping me in my work environment and socially.

At 17 I realised I could grow a beard, and at 19 I decided to grow for the first time... gave up unfortunately, but I am back again and almost 4 months in (about the same I got last time before I cut it all off)! No plans to get rid if it now.

    Beard oil does help your skin, but I've found that it also makes my coarse beard hair softer. When I hit mid-life years, my beard hair started bothering my wife because it scratched her, but the oil on my beard has led to many more kisses.

    • @beardjuice9959
      @beardjuice9959 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      100% - The oils are definitely geared toward skin moisture, but that doesn't mean that's their only benefit. I preach this same concept (Beard oil isn't for your beard) but your comment nails the other half. The oils in most beard oils will also provide significant benefit to the actual beard as well, as the name suggests :)

      The right kind of scent with beard oil seems to have positive effect on females in general.
      In Canada there are beard oils infused with Cannabis. That's complimentary to regular pot usage assisting with healthy beard growth
      With my genetics I shouldn't even really have much facial hair, and actually have a full covered beard, ZZ top style. It's gotta be the pot.
      ...And a few other factors, like the ability to carry and hold healthy levels of testosterone, like being outdoors regularly, or even better, working outdoors.
      And avoiding estrogen influencing environments like romance movies, things women are interested in, touchy feely tv shows, commericals, or even high pitched songs from dudes. As well estrogen kinds of foods and drinks, like soy and beer.
      Most of the full bearded guys I'm around are all regular smokers

  • @GainingDespair
    @GainingDespair 5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    The best advice I could give to anyone is just let the thing grow, if needed use product to make look look kept up with and so it doesn't go wild but let it grow. Give it a good 4-6 months of not cutting not trimming unless you absolutely have to because it's obviously unbalanced. Than go to a barber and ask them to trim and balance your beard for you. They will be able to shape it just save some photos of what you shape you want and show it to them and they can put you on the right path. Hair takes a lot of time to grow and if you are not skilled/confident in trimming it let a barber do it for you after that point you have a rough outline of where to trim once it starts to grow longer.
    As it gets longer it will cover up spots with thin hair, I can grow an amazing beard on the sides of my face but my chin is one large thin spot and it's hard to manage because of how thin the hair is there and how slowly it grows but as the bottom portion of my jaw started to fill in it was hardly noticeable. When it does start to grow you are able to comb/brush your hair how ever you like but you can also comb thicker spots over light patches to hide them.

    • @whitemakesright2177
      @whitemakesright2177 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. Great advice. I've only trimmed my beard 4-5 times in ~2 years, but each time I ended up taking off more than I intended. Not enough to seriously set back my progress, but more than I wanted off. Through most of that time, I wasn't using any products, just shampooing and combing it. It still looked good after each trim, but now I think I would have been better off letting it grow unhampered and just using oil and balm.
      Lots of guys, though, will trim their beards all the time, and then wonder why they aren't getting longer.

Look after your beard in the manner suggested in this video and sit everyone out if you can. Its easier when you're older as work isn't always a drag on your beard ambitions. The sharp edges on plastic combs actually aren't from snapping the comb off anything. The mold for the comb is made in two halves to allow for removal after cooling, and the line where the two mold halves meet won't create a perfect seal, no matter how skilled the moldmaker is. A small amount of plastic oozes out between the two halves when it's injected, and the issue slowly gets worse as the mold wears out.
    The only thing that gets snapped off is the gate where the liquid plastic is injected into the mold. That will look like a small, rough circular spot in one or more spots on the part. You'll also find smooth circular areas on the comb with their own flashing. Those are from pins incorporated into the mold used to eject the part after the two halves open.
    A good quality saw-cut plastic comb won't have any flashing, and is a good alternative to wood.

    I have started my beard journey two days ago on August 1 from a clean shave. I'm a mix of salt and pepper and have always been self-conscious of my grays, but now I'm ready to embrace my silver and take a seat at the table. Thank you very much for the tips, I'll certainly be referring to them as my beard grows.

      I would love a silver beard but it makes me look just plan old. I dye my beard every two weeks with just for men in a nice dark brown. Literally the next day strangers n coworkers all say “ your beard looks so FULL”. Maybe it’s an illusion or something but I can still rock it at 54. I take alittle to put on top hair like streaks to somewhat match it. And another person said the color continuity makes a big difference.

      @df6597 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! Mine is in the wild stage now, the temptation to trim a little here and there is real. I'm trying to have patience.
      I had a barber draw my initial neck line, I think he needs to try a different profession. There's the mistakes you make while you are learning, then there is just being careless and sloppy. One side was way off from the other, and the oddest part was he cut and angle into the line in the center and just left it like that.
      I couldn't see it from the angle I was checking it out at while in the chair, but I didn't really expect it to be that big of a deal. The only thing he did right was leave enough room for me to fix it properly, so at least he had that sense. I just took it as a queue that he doesn't like messing with beards and he doesn't want me back as a customer. lol

    When I decided to grow a beard, I suddenly noticed how many men have beards. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and it seems even more prevalent here as there is a big hipster scene. The boots, jeans, flannel shirt buttoned up all the way to the top, glasses, big beard, and arm sleeve tattoos. Many guys have this look but not all can pull it off. I don’t have a theory as to why there has been a huge surge in wanting a beard and I am often asked why I am growing one. I half jokingly answer “I grow a beard because women can’t.” 😉.

    What's your opinion on beard straighteners though ?

    • @livebearded
      @livebearded  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally we don't suggest them. Using a blow dryer with a wood comb or brush and some beard butter is how most of our team straighten our beards. Straighteners have gotten so popular that they have become cheaply made and the ceramics used can damage or kill your beard if they get too hot. And most of the straighteners manufactured now are made for profit, not performance so the heat produced doesn't have as much control as a blow dryer does.

    For #2 just use minoxidil. Will probably take a year but you'll grow new hair on your beard.
    Edit: To be fair you did say follicles which you CAN'T create, even with minox. but still, minox is almost magic for a patchy beard.

    • @livebearded
      @livebearded  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hey brother!
      Beard butter offers you less of a hold than balm, but has the added benefit of offering you a deep leave in conditioner. This will give your beard a softer feel and added manageability. This will even limit the need for a heavy hold over time! You can have the look that you want without that heavy mousse feel. I hope that helps!

    I’m 17 smoke a pack a day and still have a full beard, I never wash my beard and always use a plastic comb, which has led me to the conclusion that 95% of beard growth is genetics

    • @livebearded
      @livebearded  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Genetics have a huge role in this, but these tips are for people who aren't as blessed in the gene pool department and need a little advantage. What works for one doesn't work for all. But, eventually, a cheap plastic comb will cause breakage in your beard. Some plastic combs are made to be thicker, very high quality that cause much less or zero static. Static can cause breakage and split ends in your beard, which will it alter growth patterns and look thinner.
