If you've been paying attention to RC cars and trucks over the course of the last year there's one unmistakable trend, and that would be that short course trucks are wildly popular these days. It seems like everywhere you look someone else is coming out with another short course truck. The problem, however, is that many of these trucks are simply a variation of a common theme. Losi has never been one to follow the crowd which has led to continuing innovation and development. Losi's latest short course truck is as much of a departure as you might ever see from a traditional short course truck in the 1/24-scale 4WD Short Course Truck.
Todd Hodge is the man at Losi who helped bring this truck to life, breathing in little details here and there to really make this a neat little truck. From its scale-looking wheels, tires and body to real honest-to-goodness oil-filled shocks and more there are special touches all over the chassis. Todd was good enough to spend some time with us recently to go over all the features of the 1/24-scale 4WD Short Course Truck and give us the inside line with what makes it really a stand-out vehicle.

Such a great idea guys! I may have to make a scale track for these guys!
I still got one, it’s a fun car but hard to find parts for online now days. It’s perfect for racing around inside and you can make ramps out of cardboard since it’s so light.
@chechubelo the driveline and transmission is totally redesigned and new to these vehicles. There are about 3 parts in total that cross over from previous 1/36-scale vehicles to these.
LOSB0814 is the 3-wire servo and LOSB1744 is the servo saver and parts.
@10truman You'll need to remove the upper deck of the chassis and the rear gearbox to be able to get the spur gear off. To change the pinion you'll just need to take the top deck off again and remove the motor. The pinion is just a pressure-fit so it slides right on.
@oligopoly I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you as I have been out of the office for the holidays. The part number for the servo is LOSB0817.
The steering is adjustable via the end point adjustment on the side of the radio.
@WeDoThis4Fun LOSB9635 is the part number of the LiPo and yes, the stock motor and esc can handle it. However the will wear the motor out more quickly.
Check to make sure there's nothing bound up in the wheel that's not spinning as fast. Something there is causing additional drag. You might have carpet fuzz in there. You may have over-tightened the nut that holds the wheel on.
@stampedevxl The top of the chassis is what is basically the gear cover. It pretty much seals everything off.
@cesar11duran It's a public park. I don't know where exactly as it is not something we (HorizonRCdotCom) filmed but something they shot out there.
@monkeyzgonecrazzy It doesn't come with brushless but you can buy the brushless ESC and Motor separately
@overdosed10 It's possible for dirt and debris to enter into the chassis by the opening for the servo arm. This can foul up or damage the gears in the vehicle.
@11dajan It comes with a 220mAh 4.8v NiMH battery pack. Breakage has not been an issue, they are really tough and strong. I apologize but I don't know what autko is supposed to be I'm sorry.
@impakt750 It requires a little bit of modification from what I hear to make it work but it's supposed to. We'll be doing a conversion video shortly after iHobby.
@richmotherfer Yes, but you'll need different bumpers, body mounts and obviously the wheels and tires too.
We don't have a measured range as so many things can affect that. The range is more than what you would see in something from a department or toy store though, I can be confident in saying that much.
@TraceNoOne I don't know specifically as I wasn't there when they filmed. It's around Ontario, that's about all I know.
@7coolaznkid I believe the kit oil is 30wt
These acre currently $109.99 on the Horizon Hobby website
@TheRoostCrew There has been nothing announced or released by Losi at this point.
@TraceNoOne This is actually a park in Southern California
@7coolaznkid Working on the Brushless conversion first, shock rebuild is a good suggestion.
The Truggy is about the same speed as the brushed Rally and SCT, so about 10-12MPH
...Can you say micro 4wd buggy conversion?
I'm definitely grabbing one of these. Way to go, Losi! Looks amazing!
@kx100sublimekx100 No, but you can easily just swap out the bumpers and shock towers for a few dollars and have your SCT :)
@redfour504life The running footage is of the car stock.
I haven't driven one on 3S, sorry. The 2S and 10800kV motor is pretty crazy though.
@GambinoSoulja You can and I will be doing a tutorial soon on how to do the conversion.
@7coolaznkid The only wheels I know of that fit are the ones for the Rally Car.
@matt24765 The front and rear bumpers, the body mounts, wheels, tires and bodies are different.
Pushing 30MPH if not faster would be my guess but that's just a guess. It really boogies on 2S with the 10800kV motor.
where i live they are coming out on monday cant wait!
@7coolaznkid Yes and no. For consistency sake it's best to stick with one brand. A 30wt oil from Losi is going to be a little different than a 30wt oil from Trinity/Epic or Team Associated simply due to differences in production.
@normanthehobbiest Check out our UStream page as I recorded a video last Thursday that showed a size comparison between the two. UStream.tv and look for HorizonHobby-com.
@etube242 I haven't seen it run with a LiPo as of yet so I don't know, sorry.
@FOVA96 We don't. It might be a TH-cam issue. Can you send me an example?
@gladiatortarantula They're completely RTR out of the box so $109.99
@HorizonRCdotCom Is there anyway to investigate this? One of those situations were I have no problem waiting to keep my business with Horizon and Losi, but if there's nothing in the works... that would be nice to know, lol. Thank you very much for you time on this!
@TheRoostCrew As soon as something is announced, if its announced, you'd hear about it first on our Facebook page, the R/Cast podcast and our On the Horizon weekly video
@1999sniper I don't think you can really say one is better than the other, they're just...different.
this is going to be so cool becuase theres a bmx track where i live i have to try this thing out there
omg this and the rally car are so awesome i must get both
Right around 15MPH.
Yes for the a arms and shocks I've seen them
Just got two of em' and they are great,!!!
suspension? awesome. motor? fair. great little truck for $110. its about the equivalent of putting a diesel in a formula one car. rides real good but lacks umph!
i could not wait around for losi/horizon to produce this brushless ESC/receiver they say they are going to make. i threw in a 10250kv and new ESC and receiver, combined with the 11.1 lipo. the slipper clutch serves its purpose well. the drivetrain handles the power without a problem. its running over 40 mph. see for yourself...
@auswolf350 I can't remember if it's a screw or an e-clip but I do believe there is something retaining it in the rear gearbox if memory serves me right
I like this truck! Great RC for indoor/home fun!
@overdosed10 It is not recommended to run in dirt.
@bdabeast05 Take a listen to our podcast, the R/Cast that just aired today. Todd Hodge was on and we talked about this one there. You can get the link on our Facebook page, iTunes, the Zune Marketplace or by going to the Horizon Hobby Website
Well I figured out something. I was looking if maybe I could add real steering linkage instead of the lexan steering provided with this car. That's when I noticed someone from losi incorrectly attached on of the lexan steering links causing a improper steering angle. Once corrected it was better but not yet there. After I binded the car to my dxr3 and increased steering travel it was awesome! This thing is quick. Just received my lipos today. This thing should run for 20-25 min now.
@FOVA96 Can't view an image here unfortunately. You can e-mail us at the editors@horizonRC e-mail address if you'd like.
@dingo7222 Yes you could
4 wheel drive, front & rear diffs, cvd's,threaded oil shocks, hell i am very interested!!
I am sooooo getting one!
thx very much this helped alot i am planeing on getting one
@redfour504life They are brushed
Hey Horizon Hobby, @ 2:50 into the video, Todd Hodge mentions a DSM/ESC combo receiver that works with their brush-less motors. Would you mind giving me a bit more detail on this and when it will be available? I don't see any part numbers to reference or any coming soon information on the websites anywhere. Your help is greatly apprecaited guys, I am really interested in that DSM/ESC combo receiver for my little Losi cars! Thanks again folks!
wow this looks awesome, do you think they improved the micro board over the other 1/36 micros, also do you think the 300mah lipo would fit in the compartment, i see the new lipos use a balance plug and i dont have a balance charger so i want to use the ones that dont need a balance charger, hope they make a stock one with 2.4ghz, in my dreams they will :)
@7coolaznkid It is not waterproof so we would not recommend it.
wow cant wait! bL dsm....darn it . ship it already.
@TheDaverob123 The answer is easy...
BOTH! :)
I am not positive but it looks like it is a 7mm.
OMG I WANT ONE!
I can't waite to get one of these i have already ordered it from a friend and i was just wondering how fast do u estimate it will go with a lipo in it (measured in mph).
Helped a lot
i really want one of these, very cool! how fast do they go stock?
ok thx i found a string in it and now it seems to be working better
@7coolaznkid It is not water proof or water resistant so I wouldn't recommend it.
Dear Team Losi, now that you have a micro 4wd sct/rally, here are some more micro ideas: trophy truck, buggy, drifter, truggy, 4wd high roller, and MONSTER JAM MONSTER TRUCK BODYS!!!!
Thank you
looks nice
its pretty slick out there?
all I can say is......WOW, and damn you losi, making me having to buy another micro. Real question is which to buy, rally car or sct, They both look real nice.
@HorizonRCdotCom thanks for the help ill keep looking it up if u find anything more plz message me about it
i really hate losi, but thats the coolest mini rc's ive ever seen and im definately going to buy one!
Another problem with this truck. The wheels move freely when the top cover isn't on . However, whenever I put the top cover on, the wheels just don't move. This happens when I screw on the small screw in front of the truck. Is it the diffs? Please help, I'm starting to give up on this truck and hobby.
can you make a video how to rebuild the shock on the sct 1:24 and if you want to make another video about brushless for sct 1:24 that would be fine too
@7coolaznkid It is not
@HorizonRCdotCom not even dust dirt or dry dirt i'm not talking about mudd
@HorizonRCdotCom do you think that losi should make a 1:24 drift cars
few elephants hanging around, width/wheelbase looks a little square, what kind of replacement body shells will be available/fit? (mini-z/20th scale models can be made to work for the micro crawler)
drift? tires, one way diffs, etc. he did mention spring rates.
why o why is the servo a five wire? what if i wanted to put in a gyro or dbox (space permitting) without replacing all the electronics cept the motor? or even a more powerful one??
Whats the scoop with driving on dirt with this one. In the Rally video he said that it isnt advised to drive on dirt but what about this one? It kinda defeats the pupose if you cant drive this on a "short course". If not, would you be able to fix/cover the hole near the servo?
I have a Losi 1/24 sct and rally...I dislike the 27 MHz radio it came with...so instead of spending $80+ on upgrading just the radio, I was considering purchasing the ECX Ruckus for the 2.7 MHz radio and to have some spare parts for the losi (tires, engine, etc) but now I am thinking only spend the $40 for the 1/24 HSP.Any thoughts on this "mod"?
How fast would you guess this car would go with a 3s lipo and the 10800kv motor
@camaromanss27 It's live now, check our channel.
@HorizonRCdotCom thanks for the help please message me if u find anything else about it that hasnt been shown in the video
Did you got a chance to drive one? how does it feel?
@GambinoSoulja yes. i did mine. its on my page. 44 MPH weeeee
could you charde the battery with the micro t stock charger? cause if it takes a hour to charge for 10-15 run time i wouldnt have the patients to charge it for an hour. no offense..
um does it matter which brand of oil do you use on the shocks
Why is my motor shaft moving in and out and stripping my spur gear?
What is the wheel base? I looked on your website but I didn't see it listed.
Hi, could you let me know about upgrades for this car.
LiPo
Run time? Speed compare to NiMH?
Micro High-Power Motor:
Comparison with based motor?
Is there any other useful upgrades?
Thanks.
Any ETA as to when the BND versions will be coming out?
i thing i will buy it but how much the brushless combo? where i can buy it?
@HorizonRCdotCom Ya, But I am probably going to buy a go pro hd and some other accessories first before this and I do plan to wait on the bnd version cuz that would be beast on my Dx3s =). But now about getting both idk I prefer short course trucks over a rally car but the rally car looks so bomb making this a tough decision losi. =(
would a 2s lipo improve speed on this and could it handle it
hey just wondering why cant they make a better ground clearance 4wd micro? like a 1.5 inch-2inch ground clearance and include some oil filled shocks and a brushless lipo system and full ball bearing i would love one of that can you tell them to make one?
