So my buddy just got one of these today. One of the owners of the hobby shop said that when switching to the lipo you need to use the extra gear, which makes it spin a bit slower so that its not spinning so much faster as apposed to the nimh. I can see that since its so much pumping out more voltage. Helps to protect the esc and motor. They are so fun on super tight indoor courses. I got to drive the owners on the indoor course and i wrecked it multiple times pretty hard. They take a beating!!
Very good video! Nice cameo by the squirrel as you mention the squirreliness of the DT. Only thing missing was to introduce skilled driver Cassie. Very enjoyable and informative video.
Thanks :) As for a lipo cut off, I forget if it had one. But it is made to handle a lipo with stock ESC. I have run lipo in mine since I purchased it years ago and still no problems at all.
@sbmsuperman when using a lipo, I suggest driving for around 7 minutes, 10 tops, then stopping. To be safe while charging, you can charge your lipo in a safe place, and also you can use a 'lipo bag' which would prevent any problems if the battery did happen to explode... that being said, I haven't had any problems and it is pretty safe. Lipos have no memory, so just drive for a little bit then stop and charge.
either would be good. If you want a complete setup ready to run that is brushless, get the brushless edition. If you want to have more choice in what motor and pinion and everything you pick and set it up how you want, then you may want to upgrade the less expensive brushed version.
great full review mate, i was looking for some basic info on this car and from this i got all my questions answered including the feel of the car from stock, thanks
@ZATO187 well I am 25... so I'm not a teen.. And this car is great as is. I agree there are many brands of cars out there, and yes, Losi has been taking some beating recently; however, I really like how this car drives, and really enjoy driving it. Thanks for your comment!
@269shredder269 i think they included extra pinions, and maybe extra spur gear. these are the gears that are on the motor, and first connecting to the motor. They are easy to change, all u have to do is pull off one, and put on a new one. U must first remote the gear box cover over the motor pinion and spur gear; i think it has like 3 screws.
@vexrobots yes, micro t and other 1/36 micros have lots of upgrades. More than the rally/sct have. If you want to upgrade a lot, go with a 1/36 car. The Rally does have aluminum upgrades availalbe from losi... but the micro t has many more upgrade options.
they have a brushless version as well. but if you want to modifiy with your own brushless setup, then buying the brushed version would probably be best and upgrade it.
@toddnet996 it is a brushed motor, and yes, brushed motors can burn out over time. The lipo will not kill it fast, but sure the lipo will burn it out faster than the nimh battery.
well you aren't too late because a new, almost identical version came out with a brushless motor. So more speed but basically the same car! It came out a while after this brushed version! Either way, use a lipo(not sure if brushed version comes with lipo or not, I would assume it does but not sure). have fun! it's a great little car! even though it is two years old it is still on of the best little cars out there!
@monkeyzgonecrazzy depends how and where you want to drive. The rally is a lot of fun, and drives great on pavement and other types of slat surfaces like carpet. It is also great for indoors. The lST2 is a little larger, and powers through grass and other rough terrain. So it really depends how and where you want to drive.
@cutwagman very true. Smaller and lighter = less stable at higher speeds. Using these cars as they were meant to be driven is best. If you want to upgrade, go with ball bearings, new wheels/tires, new springs, and maybe some other parts like that. I would say get the lipo as well, for the bit of extra speed it gives, but nothing crazy like a brushless setup, unless you only want to do straight fast speed runs.
15mph about with lipo, but this is the brushed version. They also have a brushless version which has the better brushless motor and is much faster than the brushed version shown here.
Or it means that I like to enjoy my toys to the fullest and nothing has ever broken on this car even! Also it means that these things are so easy and inexpensive to repair that I can have whatever fun I want with it.
@rexasso I'm not sure about a cut off, I usually just drive for a few minutes, then stop and change battery. As for what lipo to get. Go to HH website, and look up this car. You will see, "optional accessories" and "hop ups". You can find the lipos there.
@7coolaznkid If I remember correctly it is a 1 hour charge time. I think 2 hours is the maximum you should leave it connected. These chargers I don't think stop charging when done(they might, I'm not sure)... so be sure to unplug after an hour or so has passed.
@TheArceus911able get the lipo, it really increases speed. You can see from my video how fast they drive, but I never used a radar gun to test them so I am unsure of the exact speed... but the lipo really speeds this car up!
@cluffyod actually the 1/24 Rally and 1/24 SCT share almost all parts. Wheels and body cover are about only 2 differences. What you are reffering to(I saw this video as well) is they were talking about the Rally Vs. the 1/36 micro losi cars. They said the 1/36 cars share almost no parts with the 1/24 Rally and 1/24 SCT.
@1RDriver I don't think anything special is in the batteries like you say. I think you can use any lipo of around the same size. The over discharge I'm pretty sure would be built into the ESC, no the battery.
@pkalldayful They will drift on higher power.. On stock setup, they hold the ground very well, they don't drift much.. but on lipo, and/or different motor/battery they will drift very well.
@cosmmic1 hehe, sorry, I can't, I want to keep this one, I like it a lot! They do offer a brushless version now you may be interested in! it is just a bit more expensive, but I think it is probably worth the extra cost!
@soulreapernathaniel your welcome :) Easy to work on... well... all micros/minis can be tough to work on because of their small size. But it isn't hard as long as your hands cooperate. I did some modifications to my micro DT and it was pretty easy.
Actually, I may not have used a 2cell, maybe only a 1cell. I would go with the brushless for the small cost increase. It comes with plenty of better electronics to be worth the extra price.
@22hocman go with electric, it is now becomming faster than gas, it is easier to take care of(don't have to whipe off gas every drive), plus there are many inexpensive choices.
@bakonlicious it doesn't have much ground clearance so it doesn't do that well offroad in an outdoor setting. if you want something that will go offroad, look into the 1/18th or larger size cars/trucks.
@tht0nek1d really. did you ever adjust the gears, perhaps you put them to tight? I haven't had any problems yet and I've run the lipo through mine many times.
@iBMXsexy the brushless version has a brushlss motor and ESC. These are nice upgrades that will help in a few ways... First, it will increase the speed of the car, offering more fun :) Also, brushless motors last longer than brushed motors, so the car/motor should last longer before needing any repairs or new motors.
@earthling1984 and actually, 2cells are listed 7.4v... but this 1/24 rally comes with a 4.8v nimh, so the lipo is higher anyways. they also now offer a 3cell 11.1v lipo for the 1/24 rally; i believe you should not use this with the stock motor though, only an upgraded brushless, but I could be wrong.
@salazam well I only really have the micro DT and this 1/24, then the rest of my cars are 1/18 or larger. But between the micro desert truck and the rally/sct, I would say I like the rally better, just cus it holds the road so well and has better handling.
@coltonwad for the nimh battery, that may be ok, cus you would be around 8v, the same as a fully charged 2s lipo, but I still don't think that is a good idea... mine as well get the lipo. Don't do this with a lipo, a 4cell lipo would be too much and burn out the motor and esc.
@earthling1984 well the 'stock' charger that comes with the lipo package... the actual stock charger that comes with the car is for the cars stock nimh battery,.
@CannonChest they are the same, just different bodies. lipo gives a good 10 to 15minutes driving. I am unsure about brushless for this car, check out the horizon hobby website. I think the rally already has bearings also.
@TheLegoScorpion not true actually. the lipo, a 2cell, is actually 8.4volts when fully charged ;p yes, a 2cell is listed as 7.2v, but really it is between 7v and 8.4v during the driving cycle. it has more power and speed than the 7.4v nimh battery in all aspects, speed and acceleration.
@fordyrox but I had the micro dt in this video also... he asked which would I choose, the micro rally or desert truck... i think he was asking about the rally vs desert truck... rally is 4wd, desert truck is 2wd.
@gerao713 cool. Check the horizon hobby website for the lipo battery. Look up the rally or SCT then look under 'hop ups' or 'optional accessories'. you will find upgrade options there.
good to see your still doing videos. been watching your vids for years.
Thanks. This video you commented on is 4 years old though :) But yes, I have continued and have many new videos :)
Very nice! What a fast little guy with the lipo! Great un-boxing / first run / review of a sweet little ride! Keep up the great work friend.

Thanks for the vid man. Was looking for something for my kid (5years). You just sold me. Thanks again!
great full review mate, i was looking for some basic info on this car and from this i got all my questions answered including the feel of the car from stock, thanks

no problem, hope you are enjoying it!
they have a brushless version as well. but if you want to modifiy with your own brushless setup, then buying the brushed version would probably be best and upgrade it.
@sethbela for most, 2 cell lipo is fine with the stock brushed motor. if you want to go 3cell, then brushless.
@toddnet996 it is a brushed motor, and yes, brushed motors can burn out over time. The lipo will not kill it fast, but sure the lipo will burn it out faster than the nimh battery.

@MRCBstudios it is made to use lipos, no electronics need to be changed.
@22hocman the 1/16 slash is a grwat choice. There is a brushed version and u can upgrade to brushless at a later time.
no problem, they are awesome cars. check out the brushless version too.
@monkeyzgonecrazzy depends how and where you want to drive. The rally is a lot of fun, and drives great on pavement and other types of slat surfaces like carpet. It is also great for indoors. @EMU1 Thanks for the kind comment! I'll keep the reviews coming :)
@cutwagman very true. Smaller and lighter = less stable at higher speeds. Using these cars as they were meant to be driven is best. @deserttruck14 the lipo will increase the speed over the stock nimh battery. the brushless motor again will increase the speed over the stock motor.
Or it means that I like to enjoy my toys to the fullest and nothing has ever broken on this car even! Also it means that these things are so easy and inexpensive to repair that I can have whatever fun I want with it.

THAT CAR IS SO CUTE
IT JUMPS CUTE AS WELL
yeah it is very impressive for such a small car. Losi also has a brushless version of this car now available which is even faster stock :)
@7coolaznkid If I remember correctly it is a 1 hour charge time. I think 2 hours is the maximum you should leave it connected. These chargers I don't think stop charging when done(they might, I'm not sure)... so be sure to unplug after an hour or so has passed.
Of course you can drift it! Slap some abc's on that 4wd!!!! Sweet vid!
I'm new to RC cars. gonna check out your channel, so far your reviews are informative to me. thanks. :)
@cluffyod that is true, most parts are for the 1/24 size rally or SCT only so far.
@lin350gg what battery were you using, and were you bashing it around/jumping it high? Spur gears can strip in cars, and they are easily replaced.
@cristianoid not sure about the fitting, but the 2s lipo is fine with the stock setup, do give it time intbetween battery changes to cool.
I'm not sure if it is a direct fit, but I bet even if it isn't you could modify it to fit (drill holes in proper locations, etc).
It is nice for what it is! but yes there is a brushless version available too!
@rcgizmoes there is a little extra space in the battery compartment.
Those plastic circules are dots to throw on the floor to simulate a circuit. Losi sells them in orange also which is easier to see.
yeah some people do. I find it just fine with stock motor and lipo battery
i really just loooove this video........very nice work!
@ThisIsKingBalls It is losi brand and it says 'Ecelorin' on the label. It is a 250mAh 7.4v lipo
@steffenl hehe :) you will enjoy it! I highly recommend the lipo upgrade!
@cosmmic1 hehe, sorry, I can't, I want to keep this one, I like it a lot! They do offer a brushless version now you may be interested in! it is just a bit more expensive, but I think it is probably worth the extra cost!
@vexrobots there are more mods and upgrades available for the 1/36 size losi cars.
@mbyer9024 the actual 'wheels' I believe are plastic, but the tires are a rubber material.
I believe they have both versions available, but mine is the brushed version.
@soulreapernathaniel your welcome :) Easy to work on... well... all micros/minis can be tough to work on because of their small size. But it isn't hard as long as your hands cooperate. I did some modifications to my micro DT and it was pretty easy.
@Heavyweponsguy2000 I modify them slightly, not as much as other people do though. Put on new shocks, wheels, upgraded battery, sometimes new motor.
@bakonlicious it doesn't have much ground clearance so it doesn't do that well offroad in an outdoor setting. if you want something that will go offroad, look into the 1/18th or larger size cars/trucks.
you ran a 3cell? it didn't hurt the stock electronics or did you modify the electronics?
@7coolaznkid oil filled shocks can lead. I forget, did this car have oil filled? Not sure, but if they are oil filled, they can.
For it's size it is! About 15mph with stock setup + lipo
Was mine at the time. Currently have a couple Jeeps and a Subaru BRZ.
@Rcpalace as long as when u press the throttle all wheels spin, it's fine.
@normanthehobbiest did you remove and replace the gear at all? if so, you may have tightened it too much.
@tontsa955 not on stock setup. but with upgraded battery and/or motor, and the right tires, im sure you could.
@austinhunt11 it is available on the HH website, look under 'hop ups' on the rally or sct 1/24
Didn't adjust it, I'll look into it. I think just from driving it a lot it probably loosened up though by now.
@zaksk814 the lipo really helps increase speed. It really feels a lot faster on the lipo, I would really recommend the lipo ugprade.
well what short course truck do you have? it depends on the brand and how it is built electronically if it can handle the better battery.
@pkalldayful I can't be sure because I haven't tried it. With enough power I think it would be good though. Only way to know is to test it :)
with the the lipo, or the brushless version yes.
@7coolaznkid they will only go into one of the two plugs, you can't mess them up.
@T1MBO95 I'm not sure if it has a lipo cutoff actually, I would have to look into that. For some reason I don't think it does, but I am unsure.
I used a lipo in my brushless version, works great.
@wweraw5678 yes, can't you tell by the video? it handles very very nice, sticks to the road.
@rcmaniacful what upgrade? the micro DT has a lipo upgrade, as well as other upgrades.
Oh god those jumps, so cute
@FPSserbian I think the prices are hobby stores is about the same as online, if not the exact same.
no, only 2S... but they do have a newer brushless version of this car which I'm sure is even faster.
@earthling1984 well the 'stock' charger that comes with the lipo package... the actual stock charger that comes with the car is for the cars stock nimh battery,.
@TheVybzPredator the micro d and micro desert truck have lipo upgraded batteries too. they are different batteries, but lipo and gives much speed.
@CannonChest they are the same, just different bodies. lipo gives a good 10 to 15minutes driving. I am unsure about brushless for this car, check out the horizon hobby website. I think the rally already has bearings also.
@sbmsuperman 2cell 250mah. it is the 'hop up' lipo for this car.
"what you gottta do is...get your self a Baax...." lol in my christopher walkin voice
its fantastic for indoor use when its 0 degrees out and the brushless version is very fast(50mph with lipo and 10250kv).
@TheTranfan I'm not sure, never used a radar on it.... there are probably other videos about that though.
@zsultan both are great. revo is faster but also costs more.
@TheTranfan check the horizon hobby website and look up those two cards, then look under 'optional accessories'. they have some good choices.
@fordyrox but I had the micro dt in this video also... he asked which would I choose, the micro rally or desert truck... i think he was asking about the rally vs desert truck... rally is 4wd, desert truck is 2wd.
Nice review!! Excellent thumbs up
Not sure, haven't looked at them for a long time. Check it out on the Horizon Hobby website.
I thought it was Joe Dirt doing an rc review for a second...
@gerao713 cool. Check the horizon hobby website for the lipo battery. Look up the rally or SCT then look under 'hop ups' or 'optional accessories'. you will find upgrade options there.
@purplelambo95 I think the balance plug is the same as the 180mah. take a look at pictures on the HH website.
around $100, there is a brushed and brushless version, check it out on horizon hobby website.
@TecIsAwesome I think you mean the float set? That is just a float set for planes.
