I live alone, never get married and I keep it that way. I have plenty of experience when it comes to dating. But I know divorce is too costly that is why I avoid marriage. I am happy to be alone. In the past, we got married because we want to have companionship later in life. But in today's world, it is all about child support and alimony. In today's world even if you got married in the end you will be alone and be broke because of divorce. So it is better to be alone and enjoy our small time in this world.
The biggest thing that i hate about life is how competitive everyone is and is encouraged to be since birth. Everything revolves around standing out as an individual and developing talents that you can then sell in the "market place". What if you derive the most joy out of cooperating with people you enjoy being around, instead of wasting your entire life in a job that you hate? I don't really want success, i just want to be able to do whatever i want without worrying about money. The constant worry cripples me and makes it so i don't want to do anything when i do have free time. The world just seems like an utterly cold inhuman place. It wasn't made for a person like me, but for somebody else. Somebody i fundamentally can't relate to.

At the age of 20 I moved to an eight foot trailer in the woods with no electricity or running water. Cellphones, computers and the internet did not yet exist. For two years I lived simply, washing in the creek and cooking my food over a fire. I read lots of books. I read Thoreau's Walden. To say I related and connected to Thoreau's words would be an understatement. His writing would shape who I would become. While living in that trailer, I decided to build a small cabin in the woods, and then I decided to go to college. My Early American literature professor asked me to teach the unit on Transcendentalism. I became an English teacher and then an administrator, and a county commissioner. Life became busy, and challenging, and rewarding. Now, 40 years from when I left the trailer in the woods, I'm back in the woods, living alone in a shop on the side of a mountain. My hair and beard now white. The stars and sky are my true ceiling. The trees my friends and neighbors. I am content in my life's journey, in all the things I acquired and lost along the way. Life can be amazing, if we let it be amazing.

@Nerios Your comment is nothing but an opinion based on sensationalism. You don't even understand humans enough to know we were not built to work our entire lives. It's unfulfilling and soul sucking, essentially creating bitter people who in turn are bitter to others and creates more bitterness. But people will always find problems even if there are none whatsoever. And it was industrialization that set things at the pace we are at, so quick to create new technology while ignoring the spirituality in life which is needed to be happy. Tech is going to ruin us as a species physically and mentally, and it's already happening. To not see it is to admit to be living in denial.
And nothing about living frantically holds any truths that we will live forever. Even the notion of living forever seems redundant. I want to die someday. What torture it would be to be a worker for hundreds or even thousands of years just to make someone else rich.

my 40 yr old son is one of these amazing loners! he's never wanted a family, just wanted a peaceful life of study and living in the country with us. he's an amazingly interesting and helpful person, I've never met anyone with such deep thoughts and wisdom. I feel super grateful to have been his mom. he has awakened my mind in beautiful ways and we are so close. he's a real joy and I know I don't have to worry about him, he takes care of me in my old age!

Im 31, im not married, i dont have a girlfriend, no social life, i only have a steady job that i enjoy and some extra money for treating myself. Sometimes i get depressed realizing that i am lonely. But the funny part is that i often catch myself feeling most at peace when im sipping a good liquer or beer alone in the forest while looking into a campfire watching my dinner cook. It would be nice to have it all, but having no worries and just being alone at peace is also nice. Appretiate what you have dudes.

I am actually a bit jalouse. I am turning 40 soon and have no friends or family either. We only have protected forests where you can't stay for too long. Can't put up a tent anywhere, can't fish without documents. Can't even make a campfire in your own backyard hah. Can't do anything but be in my own depressing home, surrounded by junkies and a never ending noise.
If you have these freedoms, enjoy them.
When things get rough I often remind myself that just the fact that I can smell an orange is an incredible thing that makes life all the more worth living.
It's good to appreciate the little things. Those little things are huge.
I remind myself of a Kurt Vonnegut quote "if this isn't nice, I don't know what it" everything life is going not bad.
I failed. I failed all my life. Broken family, toxic relationship, being bullied, study and work failed, and broke. I was upset and asked God that why me? I've done my best, but failed, why?. So I built a strong ego to protect myself. Later, I found that it made me failed and became more suffering.
2 months ago, I decided to be a real loser. I surrendered everything and said "Ok. If it meant to happen, let's God manage it. I'll rest." I was depressed and cried every night. I couldn't sleep.
But last week, I started getting used to it. I found that I feel better to be a loser. Because I didn't fight for anything and put myself in a toxic situation. I listen and allow anyone to teach me anything. I'm polite and helpful to those who are banned by toxic people. Being this weak sets me free from anger and expectation. I listen more with my heart. That brought me the new good friends. So, being a loser is the gold ring to me.

Oprah talks a lot about surrender....her story about how she got the part of Sophie in The Color Purple is very inspiring....she wanted it more than anything she ever wanted, but had to let go of the desire, and like a miracle it came to her....I'm trying to let go of many things in my life that I think I want to happen a certain way, I pray "God, let these things that are bothering me work out for the best"----I usually don't know what would be the best outcome

Simple truth
I enjoy wild camping. I love the simplicity and being with the elements. However all my friends talk about me doing it like I’m a freak. “You just go in the woods on your own? That’s weird mate” they all need £25k cars to impress people on Instagram but I just want to sit by a little fire that I’ve made myself. I hate how this modern world has brainwashed 99% of people. As humans, We’ve lost our way :(
I'm with you. My co-workers think I'm weird for having esoteric interests and keeping to myself. Some of us haven't lost our ways, just think of us as special. In a way I'm glad most of society have lost our way as you say because some of us still have it, those authentic and true to ourselves minority, then we wouldn't be a minority, we'd be overcrowded, so don't be said we've lost our way, be happy.

For years I listened to very well known podcasters who inspired me to make more of myself. Discipline, self awareness, be awake, energized and alert, let not opportunity pass you by.
I ended up exhausted.
I now realise these podcasters are workaholics who never stop, constantly pushing their boundaries.
That might work for them, for me I am happiest and at peace doing nothing of any significance.

I realised this when I was in College. Incredibly competitive person. It's only being number one or nothing at all. Would blame myself in every mistake and things that didn't go as planned.
Decided from walked one time to see the area around my uni. Unexpectedly watched the trees and sunbeam, realised I've been in this uni in three years now and feels like this is the first time I see them. Decided to slowed in life. Found the beauty in it. Best decision I've done.

That is in fact the case for me i dont know what people think of myself so all i know is my perception of myself which i don't really have its like a void of conflicting ideas. Also im interested in why you think most people you know think you are losing maybe that's just your perception of what you think they think.
That kind of life nearly killed me. I hated it but tried my hardest to fit in. I couldn't, I knew it wasn't me, so I drank and took drugs and for 15 years wanted to die. Then I took time to myself and delved into my soul. Another 5 years of self reflection and depression. Then I was forced to live in my van because rent is impossible now for a single person. And this was the start of my awakening. I love my van life. Ive no depression now, I can see things clearly, I feel free, I love knowing I can look after myself rather than relying on government. I feel like getting back to nature and taking pleasure in simple things is the true path to self righteousness. I really do love life now and I'm glad I never died way back when I was living a lie in a world full of fakeness. This world is now not reality. It's fake for one purpose, power and greed. They will suck away your soul for their own sick games. I hope people will wake up and see we can all live differently. Yes we will all have to give up things dear to us but this is a good change and we will thrive once we understand we cannot live like this anymore. Such peace can be found by the light of a fire. Silent. The crackle and pop eroding away stress and worry. It's amazing how complicated we've made our lives.
Today's society believes individuals who sacrifice everything, their time, energy, money, relationships, into material and economic success should be looked highly upon, and that everyone should strive to be like them. Consequently, most people find it easy to center their lives around these ideals, as moving with the trends of society is much easier than living as oneself.
It is because of this that I've realized just how incredibly courageous and wise it is to detach from these artificial desires and become what you want to be and to live for oneself. It's so fundamentally opposed to the current trajectory of social existence, yet it most wholly embodies what it should mean to be human.
I strive to become like this in my life. For me, a successful life is one where I can break out of the illusions society has locked me into.
It is a problem that its become normal to work in careers you dont like and all that but yall are just lazy .
Your words completely resonate with me, this whole "dedicate your life for work and you gotta sacrifice the things you enjoy to make money" which most people consider to be the noblest and the ideal way of approaching life doesn't touch my view of how I wanna live.
Your last sentence could be a trap for you. Going against the stream just for sake of it is sure one way to not live the way you want. Live how you want, independent of all other factors.
@@Spungebobonicerocks It's not that I want to go against the grain of society just because I want to, but it is that I'm becoming aware that my personal motivations differ significantly from the ideals society has established. It's unwise to act against the grain just because, of course, and I never implicitly or explicitly stated as such.

It's insane how difficult it is to be your authentic self in this world, seems to be getting increasingly difficult as this world spirals downwards at an ever quickening rate...The beauty and wonder of holding onto your authentic self has only deepened for me though, and will continue to do so i'm sure!

As a little girl growing up, I played in the woods. I built many forts and hid.
I begged for a horse. My mother saved a few dollars of grocery money every week until she was able to buy me a horse. I was 11 then, and regularly went 'missing' in the woods with my horse. What adventures and good laughs we had, my horse(s) and I.
I spent 50 years in the woods with a horse. My best friends have been horses.
I am a winner!

I felt crying when I was watching this video. I had enough of people talking about my life in every aspect. As if my life should be talked about, and announced to everyone about how I should live according to others. Super tired! But finally, I give up listening to others especially my parents. Using money and power to control me, I am breaking out of this vicious cycle. I am not harming anyone and I am just living a simple with less superficiality. I felt great after listening to this. 😊

I completely agree with this video. I spent the first 35 years of my life listening to society and almost drank myself to death. Now I do what I want to do and have never felt the need to drink again.
Can I ask you for advice? to avoid repeating your mistake (I guess that's what humans do).
I'm currently in a situation where I moved to another country, for love. This country has lower salaries than my own country so I'm now working for almost 1/4 of what I'd be payed in my country. I can barely save money and need to pay attention to my spending basically living paycheck to paycheck. Everyone thinks I'm crazy and or stupid for doing this. For me, finances aside I'm very very happy here. But I do worry about finances which sometimes creeps up to my generally happy mood and makes me anxious especially that everyone back home thinks I'm crazy.
do I continue enjoying life here (I genuinely wake up everyday excited for life), and try to do with the little money I have and stop worrying about the future?
or go back to my country, be rich, be very safe financially, but live a mediocre boring life with waves of depression every now and then?

I'll tell you what success is. At my grandpa's funeral there were hundreds of people who I had never met and they didn't know anyone in my family but were compelled to come and tell us what a positive impact he had on their life. He was a teacher and many said their best teacher ever. To be successful is to have a positive impact on the world. It has nothing to do with money or fame. Just do what it takes to help others.
That's to be loved, not successful.

Radical self-acceptance no matter the circumstances is such a big key to happiness
For a person like myself who has stayed in the same place for 27 years since my birth, had not much of an “active” life other than childhood sports, to actually have just 2-3 friends all throughout my adolescence till now, this was calmly assuring. I do have moments of anxiety and hate spurred by the “show” on social media but again, this video is really truly a life saver for people like me.

What I enjoy about this approach is that, you have the power to determine what the finish line is. In the chase for money and things… the goal always moves back… get the job need the promotion. Get the raise , need the bonus. Get the house, need more bedrooms and so on.

I cried almost non stop to this video while getting ready for work. Thank you for posting this. It was the added validation that I needed. I'm in a job I took more responsibility for so I could afford to start my own business. I've become so miserable that I'm barely able to work on the things I enjoy. Quitting in 2 months.

I left a corporate job one day without having another job to go to, then when I got work it was at jobs that paid a fraction of what I was making, but I never looked back and wished for the craziness of that corporate job. It hasn't always been easy, but now years later I decided to retire before my full retirement age...I live very simply, but really I don't need much, and my life is really about surrendering what I think I want, to what would be the best outcome (that I usually can't see with the human side of "me"). I first read Thoreau about fifty years ago. From there I went on to live in my teepees, old cabins and abandoned shacks, being a shepherd with my dogs, goats, a couple of horses, always trying my best to grow a garden for food, gathering and using plants for medicine and hunting big game for meat. Now all these years since Thoreau's words helped me decide how to live, I still live in a small mountain cabin, still growing a big organic garden, still gathering plants for medicine. I gave up hunting 12 years ago, so now I'm mostly vegetarian. If it hadn't been for Thoreau, and other authors writing about living a simpler back to the land life, I don't know where I would be now. I'm still cutting all my own firewood, watching the stars and moon every time I go out my cabin door into the quiet still night. All those wild deer, bears, elk and cougars that come to visit me, along with birds and other critters, are my welcome friends. I'm glad I found Thoreau all those years ago and I'm glad I learned to read and write.

I love this video. It reminds me of my next-door neighbor, who is always rushing frantically to and fro, always on the phone, always packing her free time with webinars, courses, zoom meetings. She seems to look down on me because my schedule isn't chock full of activities, but the fact is I feel sorry for her! I could fill my time with meetings if I wanted, but I hate "keeping busy" for the sake of keeping busy. I'm a creative person and my best ideas come to me when I'm idle, gazing out the window at the birds in the trees or soaking in the water. My brain works best and I'm happier with fewer distractions, with plenty of empty spaces on my calendar. To each his own; maybe constant activity makes my neighbor happy. But she seems irritable and tense to me. I get the feeling her actions are motivated by the fear of being perceived as a "loser" with nothing to occupy her time. I am far from perfect but at least I'm driven by genuine self-awareness, not fear. People talk a lot about de-cluttering their homes, but we should also de-clutter our lives and our minds. That Thoreau was on to something.

My brain seems to see every possibility, which means I can see a thousand ways that any decision can go wrong. It is stressful, but recognizing such tendencies in ourselves helps us mitigate them.

In 2015 after flying from Australia to NY to work at a summer camp I travelled alone to Concord to visit the site of Thoreau's cabin. I was 20 years old at the time and those few days are some of my favourite memories. There is a little path that goes from the site of Emerson's home, through the woods and to Walden Pond (it is this path that Emerson would take to visit Thoreau) and I spent the day wandering alone and sitting by the pond. It seems like the smallest thing in the world but it's something I'll cherish forever. Thoreau was really on to something with his ideas of what a successful life is.
This is a uniquely American problem that hard work and responsibility makes you unhappy.
as someone who is depressed and dissatisfied with life currently, i could not be more thankful for this. my main focus right now is to get a degree, but i am stuck on what to do after that. i obviously want a life filled with things that bring me fulfillment, but i struggle with defining what that would look like. all i know is that i do not want to be stressed, overly busy, or a corporate slave. i'm still pondering about what it is i truly wish for my life to look like, if i filter out societal and cultural expectations. maybe i could move to a country with a healthy work-life balance. maybe i could have a life that designates plenty of time for the hobbies i love. maybe a few close friends and a loving partner. i don't know yet.
give it time, the answers will come slowly. just live for now. if you watch the video, the guy was pretty old when he went out and did what he wanted to do (write a book, living in nature). but for sure, get your degree and make decent money so that you can save and be able to fund your future endeavors. good luck chap

The biggest bridge I’ve ever had to cross in my life was overcoming the weight of my friends’ and family’s judgement of my life’s goals and direction. I’m still walking the bridge, but it’s gotten easier the older I get.
As a teenager I realized rather quickly that the heavy majority of my life’s hopes and dreams were simply not mine - they were hopes and dreams that would satisfy my friends and family and their ideals of me. My true hopes and dreams are simple: I want to travel and experience this world in its bare and naked beauty. This of course usually means exploring this planet without sufficient fall-back careers, savings, etc. I realized as a young man that to travel “successfully” would mean sacrificing half my life to building a career and savings account solely for the purpose of leaving it all behind to travel “with money”, when I have always felt like life is short. We are always dying, sometimes faster than we like, so I’ve always been starkly against the idea of putting off LIFE for years…who knows if I will live long enough to enjoy the fruits of such a labor?
Live life today. Sure, saving is nice, but you really don’t need much - and we leave this life with exactly what we brought into it.

Thanks for the commentary. Thoreau wasn't isolated for the 26 months and two days he occupied the cabin on Emerson's property. It was a short walk back into town, which he made frequently. Visitors at the cabin were frequent. He also spent a lot of effort railing in public speeches against slavery and the Mexican War. He was a well-known public figure in Concord.

I was brought up in a hectic and sometimes abusive home so I left home as soon as I could. In those days leaving home men getting married if you were a 16 year old girl. I remember the relief of being alone in our little apartment i’m not hearing all the screaming and noise. I didn’t know then my studio apartment was my cabin in the woods. I face challenges but I think I made the right decision. I have voided much of the frenetic drugs and rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle of the 60s. I still enjoyed some of the music, but never went to concerts where there were. Crowds. I enjoyed going to bookstores and eventually went to college. Now at 71, I love my life. I do yoga, I live in Hawaii and I’m going to the beach today, a secluded one with my partner to appreciate and enjoy the beauty that is hawaii. People say I miss out on a lot of life, but I appreciate every day. I try to help people. During my work years and they were part time, I was a teacher and a social worker. Now I have a book channel on TH-cam that I started on my 70th birthday. Sometimes I talk about mental health, and I’ve made many friends. My mother told me I was unworthy but later that I march to the beat of a different drummer.If I’m a loser then I prefer it. Aloha

I was geared to become a physician in the med school curriculum. It seemed all I did was study and sleep and all I could feel my inner self telling me that I was wasting away. Everyone on the outside looked in awe whenever I talked about medicine/ science etc. but on the inside I felt nothing. I switched careers that allowed me to gain my time back and that was the best decision I've ever made in my life. Instead of living from the outside in, I was now living from the inside out. Life is too short to live your life on the whim of outside perception. You'll never find the true peace you're searching for. God has much greater plans for you.
Maybe for you personally but not for everyone. I know Mexicans who just work all day everyday doing hard labor jobs. Yet they're very happy and live a meaningful life because they know they're providing for their family. What made you want to be a physician? for the status?

I was always geared towards this since I was a kid and never ventured outside of that field. I did it because it was what I was used to my entire life & obviously to provide for others. Wealth in this life is measured in the amount of time you have to do what you want. Not status or finances. My career change provides me more time, finances, as well as a different way of providing for others

I feel like this is the majority of society. It warms my heart when I see like-minded people on places like here 💓
I think success is working on yourself rather than beating (or stabbing😏) others. But many people have a different idea. Maybe its because it is a competitive society not an individualistic one. People could be beter versions of themswlves if we wouldnt suppress them into conformity because it is easier but rather encourage their potential. When i was small i had the feeling doing what others wanted and ignoring myself will make me successful but i ended up very depressed and whenever i do what i like i feel bad about it because i feel respecting my wishes makes me narcistic. Maybe its the lack of self love that makes me attreact toxic people. Whenever i mirror them im the bad guy but if they treat me badly its no problem... They feel entitled.. i should quit them.. even if i stil like them despitw of all.. its better to be alone than to be surrounded by people who make you feel alone.

I used to be worried about so much. But the more I let go of 'things' - the less worried I was about what people thought of me - and the more books I read - the happier I became.
I get asked from time-to-time at work why I never go after promotions when they come up. "Why", I ask. "More money" is the standard response. I already have a couple of years worth of used books to be read.
I'm convinced that the true wealth in the world is the wisdom shared in books - along with a mind that is open to it. But that true wealth is ignored by those chasing 'things' that give off the illusion of wealth.
Thank you for this video which I find supportive. I used to fear that at my life’s end I would realise that I had made a mess of my life. Now, as I turn 60, I realise that it is not that simple or possible and I can relax and wake up to the truth of my experience rather than believing it should be something else. A wise woman once asked me ‘what if everything is ok’? Living consciously and authentically are my guides. I live in a cottage in the mountains, work part time and my life is simpler than before and more solitary and quiet and I feel very grateful. I’m discovering the life I have rather than chasing what I thought it should be. That has me smile.. may you enjoy your day
I also think that many people realize late in life the value of a quiet peaceful life. My mother had a hard life, as a manager she went through a lot of stress and pain... in my eyes it was not worth it... because ... well... it poisoned her heart and soul... and she also did parenting wrong... and I will end it here.
Thoreau is my favorite, he reflects my personal worldviews a lot. My sister was named after Emerson, and my stepmom says she wouldve named me henry if she had given birth to me herself. Ive taken Thoreau as a last name though in honor of a great thinker who inspired me to pursue my art and a personal life.

This is how I live my life! I dont care about being rich, or cool, or even “influential to a bunch of people.” I just want enough money to experience new things which are enjoyable to me (work to live) and positively affect the people around me. I want to do the things that always intrigued me like jetskiing, being a performer, waterfall hikes, experiencing different cultures, etc. I don’t live to be busy. I largely hate being busy. Tho I will say this is the busiest time in my life right now and it is a exciting change of pace. Everything I am doing is working towards experiences I love, challenging me in a stimulating way, or working towards the type I life I want. Honestly my ideal is not being busy, and I will be going right back to that in the next 3-6 months.

I've known that I wanted the simpler life since I was in high school. I pictured myself as a mere pilot not at the helm of some gigantic airliner or high-tech fighter jet but in a small prop-driven aircraft, living close to the beach and making a petty sum teaching others to fly. Life is so complicated, man.

The most important is to live in present, enjoy the moment and taste it without too much further worriying about something that ain't even happened or comparing urself with others when no one forces you to. The society can be toxic but you surely are able to have your own path of life and define your own peace and beauty of it.

For Thoreau the experience was one of novelty. It was valuable, but he knew he had security and comfort to return to whenever he was ready. He was even borrowing the land from Emerson. That is not the case for people who have necessity to deal with.
Well said. I love Thoreau (first read Walden 30 years ago) but he did have security through Emerson and kind of never completely fended for himself really. You ain’t working one day a week if you’re paying rent, even in the mid-1800s. He”d be cooked with the cost of living these days 😂 Still love his writings and insights though.
@@ash_bee_music Theres value in his message but Thoreau was a giant poser. He stayed in his cabin for 2 years which was only a mile from Concord and he spent most days in town as well as every sunday at his moms house so she could do his laundry and bake him bread and doughnuts for the week. He then moved into Emersons house to help his wife while Emerson was in Europe after that he spent the rest of his life in a room at his parents house.
@@Paul-ew5st Well, I agreed with him seeming to be a poser at first until I read about him just now at Wikipedia. He was sick for much of his adult life. He was diagnosed with TB in 1835. I think his family and friends were wonderful supporters for him and the picture of his family tomb made me feel like they all had each other's backs. He took over his father's business after living at Walden and he did build the cabin himself. With health issues, sometimes you can do many things but you still need help with others and this can fluctuate throughout the rest of your life. They say he was bedridden in the end and that's the life I'm stuck living myself right now so I know what it's like firsthand.

This is a brilliant video, thank you. Defining "success" by your own standards takes courage and acceptance of our fleeting and ever changing understanding of who we are and what we want. Given that, it seems like we have to accept an act of faith in committing to ourselves that things will always somehow work out if we listen deeply and trust our inner voice.

This is so spectacularly well done. I’ve listened to quite a lot of “self-help,” stoicism, mindfulness type videos, and I’d have to say that this one is by far my favorite. It’s a beautiful experience to watch.
Success is all the times I don’t comment on a video, as well as all the times I catch myself in a routine that I did not create intentionally. Success has not been in making the best decisions, but in knowing the source of my decisions came from some authentic part of who I am. To get off the hamster wheel, and out of competing, mindlessly, within the rat race, or with the Jones’s next door. To own your attention and apply it as you earnestly find interest, or to sit still and witness how the world. Stepping outside of the mainstream programs for success, is like stepping into infinite curiosities. Great topic
Years ago I read the book “Walden” Thoreau wrote. From what I recall, After he graduated college he lived in the woods of his friends property in a 10x10 shed that he built himself. He had a small garden and walked in to the town of Lexington, Mass. for food & supplies as he needed them.
He only stayed in the shed or cabin approximately 1 year. What he wrote in that time has some profound meaning but even he himself did not follow his own writings and ideas. He conformed to society and lived his life as any other in Colonial times.
When he was in his thirties he took over his father’s pencil manufacturing plant. Which I’m sure took up much of his “time” and caused him the usual stresses of self owning a business. 😉

If you study Thoreau most of his writings are that way, grand ideas that are perfect and noble. Ideas that strived for but mostly impossible to attain. But none the less worthy of perusing.
Thoreau was born in the 19th century, after colonial times. He walked to Concord, not Lexington. He was no hermit, he often visited the taverns in Concord and sometimes had to be helped home by his friends. His mother did his laundry for him. There was no "pencil manufacturing plant" it was a small family business. Henry was an idealist which meant that he preached ideals that he himself couldn't live up to, not unlike the clergy of his day and ours.

However he got tired of that. He is now in a high pressure, cutting edge graduate program in biological engineering, whatever that is. He doesn't have time for music at this time.

Every time I hear the first two quotes I can’t help but cry. They speak to something deep in me, they trigger my cry for life.
I spent my entire childhood living in an abusive household. Told by my parents that I was never good enough. Told by my teachers that I wasn’t trying. Constantly under pressure as a child feeling like I was always falling behind and never good at anything.
I’m 31 now, and ever since high school was finished, I got a job and been working it ever since. It pays my bills, covers all benefits I need including a 401k, and pays me more than I deserve for the work I put in. Best of all, it pays for everything I wanted from this life from the very beginning: Peace, and quiet.
