Yup its amazing it's been a great experience so far. I started watching day one with 300blk for the sane reason as most 300blk factory ammo is way to expensive and we can make it quiter and cheaper.

This is the most helpful video on TH-cam for me. I’ve got the same 10.3 in barrel in my SBR. Nothing better than hearing that steel ding with the subs!
This problem of gas difference in subs and supers is why I run dedicated uppers for each, with gas blocks adjusted to optimize each. I got tired of gas issues and dirty burning/unburnt granules.

I recently put together a Blackout upper for my AR, kind of cheaped out as it meant to be mostly a range toy. 10.5" Faxon gunner barrel, DB BCG, lowpro gas block, spike's tube. Griffin GP7 can pinned to bring bbl to 17". After reading and seeing all the issues people have had getting guns to run reliably, i suddenly feel like ive been exceedingly lucky...it ran subs and supers before the can, and then with it as well, and the only malfs I've had so far were 2 FTFs with cheap WWB 200gr subs. Those things ran filthy! Ive just started working up loads for it, but from Sub-X at 900 to Vmax at 2200, it has fed and tossed brass 3-4 o'clock every time.
Have a black hole Weaponry 10.3” barrel with a Geissele gas block. What works for me is a A2 buffer spring with a heavy buffer. I am able to cycle both subs & supers consistently. I use Accurate 1680 and H110.
I’m making this comment early in the video. I shoot a lot of 300 blackout. In my opinion, your green weights are off and you would’ve had an easier time if you had gone heavier all around. 150 grain for the supers and 220 grain for the subs.
Enjoyed the video. I need to do some more work on 200gr cast PC subs, to get them to run with a carbine gas, 16". Got started working on it, then got distracted getting Xbow ready for season, then picked up an inline muzzleloader, and been messing with it. Short attention span....
Looks like fun. I haven't shot 300 black out in a while. I will have to get it out there again now that I have all my hunting load's ready for this year. Glad you're feeling better
Lately I’ve been going through severe JRB .300 BO withdrawal…glad to watch the latest!!! “Stuck in my craw” the chickens are defiantly impacting you my friend (been there…gotta love those fresh eggs) 🐥🐔🐓🤔😆😆😆…keep up the videos 👍👍👍
I put my bolt carrier group through my sonic cleaner and have not had gas problem since I am very thankful because I damaged a lot of brass in the process of trying to figure out what the problem was
Not gonna lie, I thought Johnny was a little off his rocker when I saw the powder selection in the last video. Made for a good follow up vid though. Almost like he planned to keep us on the hook!
@@K-bob_45 not as quiet as some faster powders, but has great case fill and plenty of gas. N120 is kind of a cheat code for getting reliable subs with minimal effort. I'm currently trying to work up a load for 147gr subs, but my charges have been too low which results in unburnt powder. Heavy crimp seems to help powder burn a lot.
I had great success with IMR4227 and CFEBLK. I've been running 200 and 220 gr berry's bullets. For Super, I have had good luck with H110. My 5.5, 6, and 10 inch 300blk guns will cycle both suppressed and unsuppressed.
friend of mine loves enforcer powder in his 300blk . i use it in 45 acp get great speed and no over pressure . only in 45 acp you have to find old data as it is no longer listed in 45 acp loads . and enforcer is still easy to find right now . you might want to give it a try sometime . great job on your loads shannon !
Man! Makes perfect sense! My BO AR works fine with Accurate #9, but I’ve not chronographed them yet. This is good data to start building on! I might even enjoy some subsonic loadings! So many guns….so little time!
Your timing is impeccable. I just got my 30cal can outta jail a few weeks ago (waited 14 months). Spent the last year accumulating some different powders (have plenty of all other components). I was going through your old blackout videos and noticed your making new ones with totally different powders than I expected. Here you go again dragging me down your rabbit hole! And I just can’t wait to go! Thanks for doing all this. You have a way of making my brain hurt, but in a good way. Thank you and keep getting well Johnny.
I use a JP SCS in my 10.5" BLK as well. I use the lightest spring ( the white one ) with a carbine buffer. Makes it very easy to cycle so I can crank my gas block down and have a slow, smooth cycling, even without a suppressor. As I guessed in your last video, using the H110/W296 in subs would likely work. Glad to see you had success with it.
Johnny definitely doesn't shy from a challenge. Any reloader will know that doing this kind of a loading session there are a lot of moving parts, a lot of things to remember, and on top of that you need to be precise that well organized.
My blackout cycles and its quiet as a silenced 22 or quieter. Its just the sound of the bolt moving back in forth. Extremely ideal inside of 150 yards urban environment
Well here's what's funny; I loaded a perfectly functional sub/super combo using your earlier videos information:))) Lessons I learned from that video is that 1680 functions really well down to really slow subs and I did use 296 for supers. I don't even have an adjustable gas block but it works well, probably because it's 16" barrel. Also I don't know about Z-max bullets but I've loaded 110gr bullets (I don't know who makes them but they're designed for 300BLK) with 20gr of 296 and got 2426fps from 16" barrel measured with LabRadar. Only slight ejector marks on the brass, totally acceptable so I say you got room to grow.
The key for me to get **good** consistent performance with my 300 BO with both supers and subs was an **easily** adjustable gas block. I use the "Riflespeed" adjustable gas block that has an adjustment 'tube' around the barrel that extends a little bit out in front of the forward-most margin of the handguard. A couple toolless clicks of the gas adjustment ring and it shoots either without having to compromise your loads in any particular direction. I use Win 296 for both, just out of convenience because Win 296 shoots supers sooooooo sweet out of my gun.
I’ve only watched part of the video so you may have covered this, but I noticed that when the supers are WAY overgassed I found that with only a few rounds in the mag it would still work. But if the mag was full and the spring couldn’t quite lift all the rounds fast enough the bolt would overrun the next round, or misfeed. Something to consider.
I am accustomed to seeing your Redding turret press. Today you have a Lyman. I am pondering a turret press and these two are my short list. I'm interested in any comments you may have on the merits of one press over the other.
My favorite powder for supers is L'il Gun, the one you didn't try, but I'm running 125's. I tried the online Hodgdon Data for the 125gn Nosler Ballistic Tip in looking to create a hunting round and then found a source for 125gn FMJ's that are almost the exact same size and shape. I load both at the fully stuffed 22 gns in Remington or Hornady brass (NOT cut-down 5.56 brass) and get superb performance out of my 16inch CMMG barrel.
Yea I’ve been told win 296 and H110 is the same powder as well. I use either of those 2 depending on what’s in stock. I haven’t seen a difference in velocities or accuracy with using both powders. I mainly load the berrys 220 gr 300 blackout bullets with 9.5 gr with 2.230 coal and average velocity of 964 fps out of a 10.5 BA barrel . I don’t use a adj gas block on it either and runs flawless supressed
Running 9.6 grains of 296 out of 8.5 and your right they run great. How's your accuracy at 50 and 100? I might give your coal a try and see if I get tighter groups. I've been loading my to 2.185 - 2.190 coal
If everything you do works every time, you're not learning. Like racing: Never break nothin'? You ain't never winnin' either! You got to feeling better, came back & solved the issues by T&E - Testing & Evaluation. Would have been unlikely or impossible without *knowledge* gained thru experience. Building & shooting loads rather than reading. You generously share what you learn - mistakes & all. THANKS. IDK whether you've tried a LaRue trigger. I really like 'em. $100-$118, single & 2-stage, conventional & straight bow. Tool steel so consistent thru thousands of rounds. I prefer two-stage; mine are absolutely reliable, crisp & consistent at 3 lbs. They offer a stronger spring for those who want a heavier pull weight.
I have a JP SCS in my SBR with Q Full Nelson can. I use 4227 for all weight subs and H110 for supers, the SCS has 2 tungsten replacement weights but the spring is whatever it cam with. I don't have an adjustable gas block and it functions flawless with either subs or supers. 4227 is where its at for subs, 9.9gr and you can load everything from 190-220gr with that charge.
Glad I found your videos. Just got a 300blk. I have been going over load data and looking at what powders I have, nice to see some I have. Not sure if you have tried 4100,I have a fair bit and was thinking of starting with it.
I'm planning to work up some loads for my 7.5" 1:5 300 Blackout. I picked up some N110 and have heard it can run Supers and Subs through it. I also picked up some Accurate 1680 to try out and will be running 220gr for workup. Be interesting to see how it works. Glad you're feeling better Johnny.
I'm not going to correct you because you clearly know more than I do about loading. I just don't have the smarts yet to work out custom loads for all scenarios with powder. Lol But I have 2 300 blk guns one is a 7.5" pistol and the other is a 16" rifle. The pistol is able to run anything. Subs, supers. and I have a krink brake on it so there is some back pressure added though not quite suppressor like. The 16" was a bit pickier. Subs did not run at all very undergassed. Also we are talking factory loads. I corrected this with the action spring going with a 300 blk specific Nemo Arms spring. (Lighter duty). My barrel is a BA barrel and because the gas port is a little undersized it needed a less powerful spring. What ended up happening was subs ran great and supers were overgassed. Added an adjustable gas block and now I have a rifle that will run everything with the caveat that I have to turn the gas down for supers and up for subs. When I get my can I'll have the option to find settings for all scenarios.
Good stuff! I've found myself really liking Vihtavuori N120 for extra heavy sub loads. Oddly enough, when dialing in for my 10.5" barrel I ended up at 10.8 grains as well. Getting an average right at 1060 fps with a 238 grain cast lead bullet.
@@robertpagel8951 With those bullets I'm pushing the c.o.l. out to 2.25" to get them to fit. The accuracy isn't anything impressive at 2-3 moa, but it's plenty for ringing steel which is my primary use for those loads. I haven't had time to really fine tune a new load yet, but I think I'll be moving primarily to using the 220 gr Berry's bullet for sub loads in the future. They are a little bit moe expensive than the cast bullets at about $80 for a box of 200 at my local shop, but the consistency seems to be better bullet to bullet. With the cast bullets I've had some issues with the diameter being too large on a handful causing rounds to not chamber correctly after seating.
300 Blackout is the most fun cartridge for me! Not sure what it is about it, but its like the goldilocks cartridge.. Kinda does a little of everything.
Where is IMR4227 in this range? I think it's medium burn. Would that do both? I have a lot of that for my 38 and 357 loads. I never have loaded 300 and as soon as I can get some small rifle primers I was going to jump into loading 300 Blackout.
I’ve used some of your loads (after verifying of course) in a 10.5” PSA with a can and haven’t had any issues. IMR4227 and H110/W296 work great w/ Hdy 208g ELD and Sierra 220g hpbt. I can’t find those 190g sub-x anywhere.
Shooting at the range all ways makes me feel better, hope it improves your health as well. I know it was all about proper function but there was the chance to get some accuracy data as well (think of the money you could have saved!).
These videos are more educational than my college classes. Different course material, but your method of teaching is far more effective.

Ive been working on an ak pistol sub/super project. Cfe blk did well for me
I'm planning to work up some loads for my 7.5" 1:5 300 Blackout. I picked up some N110 and have heard it can run Supers and Subs through it. I also picked up some Accurate 1680 to try out and will be running 220gr for workup. Be interesting to see how it works. Glad you're feeling better Johnny.
Hey Bill, 1680 is good, so is IMR 4227. If you have a suppresor Win 296 also works ok. I'm casing the best coal for the best accuracy with 296.
I'm not going to correct you because you clearly know more than I do about loading. I just don't have the smarts yet to work out custom loads for all scenarios with powder. Lol
But I have 2 300 blk guns one is a 7.5" pistol and the other is a 16" rifle.
Good to see ya
Good stuff! I've found myself really liking Vihtavuori N120 for extra heavy sub loads. Oddly enough, when dialing in for my 10.5" barrel I ended up at 10.8 grains as well. Getting an average right at 1060 fps with a 238 grain cast lead bullet.
Hey six how's your accuracy at 10.8 grains using N120 with your cast bullet? And if you don't mint what is your COAL? Thanks
No big deal with a man's gun is akin to no big deal with a lady's fashion.
"I'm fine" means the exact same thing.
Sorry responded before finished video. But been using CFE black for years
300 Blackout is the most fun cartridge for me! Not sure what it is about it, but its like the goldilocks cartridge.. Kinda does a little of everything.
Lol glad I am not the only one. That when crap don't work. I gotta know why.
Where is IMR4227 in this range? I think it's medium burn. Would that do both? I have a lot of that for my 38 and 357 loads. I never have loaded 300 and as soon as I can get some small rifle primers I was going to jump into loading 300 Blackout.
this is giving me so much helpful tips, thank you!
Best powder I found for 300 Blackout is Shooters World SBR Socom. It’s cleaner and functions the best.
I had great success with vectan sp3 powder, both in super and subsonic, you may want to try this...
Love your videos!
Also I'm sure you've heard this plenty, but have you considered the 'rifle speed' had block system thingy?
I’ve only used aa1680 and I’ve not had any issues with subs or supers, I haven’t had a need to change either
