      What are the pros and cons of the ds and mobile versions?

    • @olivaperez5339
      @olivaperez5339 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      ok the ds has the amazing mechanic of controlling both characters at once which is one of the reasons i love the gameplay of the ds version..the mobile one is basically just neku using his partners just like regular pins...this mechanic loses the point and meaning of the game and its story by synchronizing with your partner to kill noise.
      Since the original ds version was in two screens it was challenging to control both characters and have them synchronize in attacks but when you learn to get used to it..its the most fun youll ever get from the game. Honestly i bought the iOS port for nostalgic reasons and to support the game(still hoping for that sequel..i still wish if there will be one it could at least be released in the 3ds with the same 2d graphics) but losing the dual screen control mechanic made me bored of the mobile port fast.
      The pros of the mobile port is revamped soundtrack and high res images and 2d graphics..this pro doesnt make it better than the original ds however because its the dual screen combat and music that made it shine.

    I can easily recommend this game to anyone. Fantastic story, amazing battle system. I actually don't really like the touchscreen play. My favourite way to play is co-op by myself (sounds kinda sad huh? Haha) in docked mode. It takes a lot of adjusting to, but once you do get adjusted, it's the closest thing to the OG battle system. Speaking of the OG, I think people remember this with rose-tinted glasses. Is this port a bit on the lazier side? Yeah absolutely. But the game in its state on Switch is amazing. Would it have done better at $40? Of course, but what game wouldn't do better with a cheaper price tag?
    The Switch version is the definitive edition. New content, high res art, amazing revamped soundtrack, and the co-op play solo is just amazing. At least your video isn't over-exaggerated like a lot of people's that I've seen. Good video dude.

      wait, does co-op not have a gauge for the partner's attack? Because if so, I'm gonna play the HELL out of lonesome co-op because it's the closest it'll get to dual screen combat.

    • @annunanki
      @annunanki 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Nope! No gauge. Your partner is also invincible, which kinda sucks, but it is what it is. Like you said, it definitely is the closest that we can get to the original game. I find it easier to play co-op in the joycon grip! You really have to spam the Y button so you can centre the pointer a lot.

  • @2figs4u

    Ok, considering the game's style of play, can anyone give a better example of how the controls should be on docked mode? I sure as hell can't, and if it were different, it wouldn't be TWEWY. The game's style of play relies on the gimmick of using certain types of motion (circles, slashes, etc.) as the main mode of gameplay in order to separate itself from other JRPGs.
    It may be just because I'm a DS veteran of this game, and yes the controls can be tough, but I got the controls down pretty easily after a while at first. Try lowering the cursor speed, it helps a *lot* . I've gotten so good at it now that I can actually control Neku and his partner at the same time, and damn does it feel good and intuitive. It almost feels like Co-op was what single player was meant to be: more akin to the original DS version, back when you controlled both characters. But I guess people are writing reviews after the first 5 minutes of gameplay again like with Cuphead...

    • @Shulski44
      @Shulski44 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      SupahMario123 To be clear, I haven't bought the game due to the price point, but I think it would've made way more sense to just control Neku's movement with one joy-con's control stick and keep his attacks as-is. Partners could be controlled with the other joy-con and could just use buttons to attack. I think that'd keep the original feel of the DS game without making docked nonsense too cumbersome.

    • @2figs4u
      @2figs4u 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ShulskilV can you elaborate how that some more? Like how would you use/switch between all of his different psychs *and* movement with just the joy con stick and buttons without it being to drastically different from the original? I don't mean to sound rude I'm just genuinely curious about your thoughts.

    • @Shulski44
      @Shulski44 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      SupahMario123 The only change I'm suggesting for Neku is mapping his walk and dash to the control stick so the player doesn't have to point on him every time they have to move.
      I suppose that the devs could incoperate a lock-on system to the enemies where the player can change their target using the "L" or "R" button if it's too difficult to accurately aim and preform the specific motions needed to attack. In general though, I think pins should mainly be activated as they are now.

    "The Word Ends with You: Final Remix brings the Nintendo DS cult classic to the Switch. With this game being based on the mobile version for iOS and Android, is it worth picking up?
    "
    That's kind of a stupid question, but yeah, it's worth picking up. If it was based on the controls of the original DS game, then people would just complain that Nintendo is still pretending that the 3DS isn't a "dying console", and that it should be ported to the Switch as such a true-blue game deserves to be treated (like how the Bowser's Inside Story remake got received).
    How much this game costs in relation to the mobile port is irrelevant to boot, because it has added content that the mobile port doesn't have, content that's supposed to lead directly into the sequel of TWEWY (which is also a follow-up of the extra cutscene in Solo Remix), so it's effectively made it obsolete at this point.
    Now, you might argue that the added content they put into Final Remix isn't worth the 272% price increase, but you didn't in your video, which is why I'm making this comment in the first place.

    I played the DS version as a child, and I absolutely loved it. It's the one game I most regret losing. I remember talking about it to my dad when I was a kid since he's also a gamer. I always wanted to show him the game since it was definitely one of the games that molded me as a person, teaching me the importance of trusting other people and making friends. I never had a way to do so without him having to look over my shoulder and watch my DS screens. As such, that is the sole reason I bought this version of the game for my Switch. I acknowledge the issues in the combat and the shoddy pointer that makes me miss the Wii sensor bar, but you know what? I don't care. I will gladly put up with those issues if it means I can experience one of my favorite games with my father. We just got to Day 3 of Week 2, and we are loving the game greatly. He just sits and watches, and you know what? That's enough for me. He comments and theorizes and reacts as I play, and it's so satisfying. He's clearly engrossed in the narrative and I'm always happy to have another great game to spend time playing with my dad.

    From the iOS and Switch version, I rather play the DS version over the newer ones, because its harder, the lore ingame makes sense kinda for the 2 split screen, and the audio its pretty amazing for a DS game. The iOS and Switch version for refined... but giving it additional new amped but odd changes to most songs, the characters both being in the same screen ruined it for me, given the DS you could use your partner manually in real time even while controlling Neku at the same time, which is an aneurysm driving game style to multitask specially on the highest difficulty.
    If had any coding knowledge, I'd start a project 3DS modified 3ds rom of the game, having ported the iOS/Switch elements and translate them into the DS like format it had on its original pixelated or enhanced graphics as options, since the 3DS could handle such space on a singular rom game, give it back that DS screen gameplay but with a feeling that it was made to the era, and fixing all of the issues that they had with the game since its original launch and even now from its newer versions, enhacing, giving fills to the lazy seeming spots, etc. But one can only dream

    When I saw this video I remembered whenever I had a ndsl I wanted to get this game at some point but couldn't because I was only a kid and my parents just couldn't afford it ig. Turns out, my dad still had my DS after all this time, found that out whenever I called to tell him to keep an eye out for one on the market. Got a cheap r4 card off of Ali express and even though it said it was only supposed to support 4gb I got a 32gb sd card working with 5gb of space currently being taken up by games. I'm trying to turn this thing into in absolute fuc*ing unit and would like to ask for your opinion.

    It's a real shame. I loved it on the DS, but had to stop at some point because i got so frustrated with the controlls. I thought that the controls was the main reason they remade it in the first place even. Seriously, what other reason did they have to put this on the switch?

    • @GrOOvedelta93
      @GrOOvedelta93 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a cult classic by now and they can essentially make free money from it by porting a port to another system that can be taken on the go and that's selling at record speeds. The rest of it is just Squeenix trying to come up with excuses to make it look appealing at said price tag.
      Graphic enhancement? Already in the iOS port
      Extra music? Some of it already there as well
      Extra pins? There are less than a dozen
      Now with more control options? Try again: game got dumbed down already for the mobile port (battle-system-wise, that is), taking the core mechanic of the original away. And they're calling it a "Final remix". Again, nice try.

    • @GrOOvedelta93
      @GrOOvedelta93 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I still don't see what Nomura has to do with the possibility of the next game being made, no matter how much media outlets ask him about it. He didn't direct, nor came up with the idea/scenario for this game, and was only responsible for initial character art and creative input throughout development.

  • @rh162

    Hear me out...
    I actually /tolerated/ the joycon version and even liked it at times. There's a lot of resetting your cursor mid combat but once used to it's really not that bad. Not to mention it looks great on a good sized TV. Shiki's sync becomes easier (due to visibility). Joshua's a bit harder (due to reaction time). I don't have to desperately swipe Neku trying to get him to move correctly. I do 100% agree they should have optimized better? But hang on I'll try to explain what I mean.
    It could work for motion controls but the game itself doesn't control as well as it could. I think games made under the standard wii dev kit would have better control better simply because the switch's motion controls don't typically function the way they'd need to.
    I do agree the price is too high? This was obviously a cash grab as opposed to a genuine homage to TWEWY. But I also enjoy the physical copy and the box makes a really nice addition to my collection. I don't know if they remixed the tablet's music but I like the crisp new sounds of the switch. They're very satisfying. Overall I don't regret the 50 bucks I spent. Buy if you're a diehard Square or TWEWY fan. I hear the hype around this will help determine the likelihood of a sequel.

    The World Ends With You is easily in my top 3 favorite DS games. Like you said, the story and music are phenomenal. That said I was still disappointed with the price, definitely gonna wait until I see it for 40 or less before I pick it up on Switch.
    Also kinda hope Neku makes it into Smash Ultimate... I doubt he will, but man it'd be awesome getting him, a Shibuya stage and (hopefully more than FF7's 2) music tracks.

    $50 is fine to cover the costs of redrawing sprites, remixing music, hours spent programming the Co-Op mode (the way it’s meant to be played- with a partner), and because it’s still cut from a full-price game and it’s already a finished game, compared to FFXV, which has added up to more than $100 to be finished, and if I’m correct more is being added?
    So yeah, it feels fine. If you think it plays badly docked, that’s on you, and that alone shouldn’t discourage ANYONE from buying this game.
