2022’s Best Long Point Pencil Sharpener for Charcoal: Replaceable Blades!

  • I contacted AFMAT to see if I could get replacement blades for my favorite long point pencil sharpener, and they let me know that while that model’s blades couldn't be replaced, they did have a new long point sharpener with completely replaceable blades! How cool and great for the environment.
BUT, will the new sharpener live up to the standards of the old one? I’ve definitely been pampered by these long charcoal pencil points. (The longer and more tapered the point, the less often you need to sharpen it!) So, I tested out the new AFMAT sharpener and have outlined all the differences here in this video.

I don’t think you knew about or mentioned that the sharper you reviewed has an adjustment for blunt or sharp point. Maybe that’s why your pencils weren’t getting as sharp as they were with your previous sharpener. Check it out. I think the adjustment that you thought was the length of taper is actually the adjustment for the sharpness. The length of the taper depends on the thickness of the center core. That is what AFMAT says in their literature. Thanks and great video!

Is this pencil sharpener good for woodless charcole pencils ? I love you,re review

I don’t recommend putting woodless pencils in any electric sharpener because they break easily. I learned this the hard way and was unable to remove a broken woodless colored pencil and that was the end of my sharpener!

Is also possible to use for Caran d’ache luminance and Faber castell polychromos ?

Yes I have it and they fit, but I recommend a handheld kum sharpener for Luminance and Polys, I never have breakage with manuals and always save much more of those expensive pencils using manual

I have looked everywhere for the replacement blades - and I can not find them ANYWHERE, not even on their site. Where do you buy them?

      I believe this is it:
      afmat.com/products/sharpening-blade-for-electric-pencil-sharpener-ps91-94?_pos=6&_sid=9572d1969&_ss=r
I searched AFMAT’s site for “replacement” to find it, since I could t find it through the regular menu.

I did not try that yet, but when I do I’ll record the process. :-)

They’re currently on sale for $10.99 on the AFMAT website.

How short of a pencil can you sharpen on this?

  • @sunriseboy4837

Nah, one sided razor blade does the best work for me. Besides the cost of the thing would be off-putting for me.

  • @HornsfromtheDeep

You burn pencils too fast with that sharpener. better do it with a simple razor don´t you think.
