As mentioned in the video description the best would have been to replace this foam base for a new one, but the customer under his own responsibility only wanted a repair. Anyways, it is going to last for quite a while.
The best way to remove a 'hog ring' (the hook) is by cutting it off with a bolt cutter (small one) www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-14-in-Bolt-Cutter-With-5-16-in-Max-Cut-Capacity-48-22-4014/303182026 Then with a pair of long nose pliers the leftovers are removed easily.
Have you thought about taking a bag and vacuuming it over the OE cushion. Then make a mold of the exterior of the bag (fiberglass or reinforced plaster in 2 parts) then simply pour a new two part urethane foam of the right density into the cavity making a brand new expanding foam cushion of the approximate correct durometer type?
No, I have never used steam. I particularly like to replace the old worn or distorted foam for a new one. I only do foam repairings if the customer request it under his own risk.
hi!, i just watched your upload about wrapping a dash board with a blue leather. the one with no background music/sound due to a copyright issue😀. I wanted to ask there, in the comment section, if it's okay to use "DO.ALL" all purpose adhesive contact cement (the issue about this adhesive is it melts when exposed to heat. ) for my vintage car dashboard. but since it was uploaded 7 years ago, I though that I might not get any feedback from you so I decided to look for your newest upload to ask about it😁.. if not, what kind of adheaive should I use for those kind of project... thank you....
In my recent experience it seems vinyl top adhesive is used. Heat really isn't an issue but fairly expensive. Of course a professional needs to be able to stand behind his work so it's worth it to them
Hi Ariel, I suppose you are referring to the SuperBeetle dashboard I wrapped in leather a few years ago. www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=640144 This dashboard to be leather wrapped was sent from the USA to Mexico where I am located. Last year the customer commented me he is still happy with his dashboard in leather. I used a regular upholstery yellow glue for the dashboard project: th-cam.com/video/o2xeezdF8Ss/w-d-xo.html If you are in the USA, most American car trimmers recommend Landau cantact cement (sprayable or brushable). www.dap.com/products-projects/product-categories/adhesives/contact-cement/landau-top-trim/

My dad was an upholsterer for 30 years.
could you please tell me what material is used/glued over the seam where the new listing wire was installed?
It is celestra fabric. It could be another similar material.

You are right! It can be and I would like to use it for a special job.
Do you ever use steam on foam?

At some point, the old foam should be replaced. It smells bad and is falling apart.
As already mentioned in the video description this foam base should be replaced for a new one, but the customer under his own responsibility wanted only a repair.
@@Cechaflo Thank you for the explanation.
