Respected Dr. Ganguly,
I am an avid follower of your contents. I think you are the sole guide to us who lost a lot during the journey. I am a post doctoral fellow working on the plasmonic biosensing with an h index 7.
I am a late bloomer. Got JRF at 26, joined PhD at Assam University at 27, finished at 34. Taught in a college for the next 4 years until I recieved the MSCA IF and moved to the University of Granada last year.
I will be 40 on the completion of the project. I neither have the full first class career nor I have obtained my PhD from IITs.
I am confused about my future. I tried to move to industry but here we dont have much opportunities.
Please enlighten me.
Thanks and regards,
Hirak
I think you are in Spain now? In Europe academia is a good place to be in as they have a good system out there. I would suggest to stay in universities if possible unless you want to subject yourself to the vagaries of industry jobs in the later part of your life
@@Drganguli Thank you, sir. Here in Spain I think it's hard to get a position in academia. It needs more command over language and also need some projects in hand.
@@hirakchatterjeehere yes language will be a major issue. So industry may be better in some cases. Otherwise move to a place where English is used more frequently.
@@Drganguli One last question, if I move to another country, will the Marie Curie fellowship be recognized by the country as a merit score?
As usual, your content is really inspiring. Thank you, Dr Ganguli
Thank you so much
This was so insightful
Thank you Sir!
You are most welcome
Very helpful
Thnx a lot for your insights ❤❤❤
You are most welcome
Sir, I feel that whoever has become big till date, he/she has never thought that he/she will become a stalwart down the line. They just worked normally.
You are 100% right. No Nobel or Abel prize winner know he or she would get these prizes when they were in college or doing PhD.

@@Drganguli Sir, we should never have a prize in our mind. It is a very bad Indian mindset. We are just obsessed with ranks, numbers, prizes and money. All these things will run behind us. We should never chase them.
@@academicgladiator Yea true but one can study the prize problems for inspiration about what is high impact research.
Dear sir, I have done my PhD on population genetic analysis using issr markers. I am motivated and want to do post doc on gene editing using CRISPR/Cas. Should I go for it or not.
It is a good idea to go for post doc and strengthen your research capability and CV provided you want a career in research and/or academics
@@Drganguli Thank you Sir!
The over-metricisation of science has led to a slowdown in innovation. Everyone is chasing numbers rather than thinking of making an original discovery.
Yes the rise of citations and h index has also contributed here. But the problem is that management methods used in business have come into academia. And administration looks at metrics to rank people, departments, universities and even countries. Some countries are even paying researchers for publishing on high impact journals. But like most things in life, this is not going to change going forward and people have to adapt to them
Respected sir, I am an aspirant for doing phd in biochemistry, I have published few review papers in highly reputed journals, currently working in Japan, I need your assistance and mentorship for my phd application could you please share your email id so that I can communicate
Please let me know any specific questions you may have. Hope you have seen this video
