    I'm a York Alumni - graduated back in 2016, and I'm starting my Masters in Marketing in Fall 2021, and after seeing this video, I'm really looking forward to it! 😊 I didn't know that Schulich graduates are heading Air Canada, TD and Deloitte. That's pretty awesome. I'm looking into on-campus accommodation, and I used to stay in Atkinson during my Bachelors, but I've heard a lot about QUAD. It wasn't built when I was studying earlier. Let me know if you have any info about it.

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats great to hear, the Masters of Marketing is a great program! It really is shocking how many Schulich alumni are in cool places. In terms of QUAD, I had some friends stay there and have been there a couple times. It's a really nice residence, very modern. It's more quiet and from what I know there's no organized socials or anything - it's more like student apartments. There are some really nice lounge areas on each floor with kitchens, as well as a gym and grocery store. There's lots of food places right below it so everything you need is there. And it's not even a 5 minute walk to Schulich. It does run a little more expensive, but in my opinion I think it would be worth checking out.

    Hi Yusuf! Thank you for uploading this video, I found it so helpful and made the idea of applying a little less taunting. I have a few questions that you can hopefully answer listed below :)
    1. How is the workload & how much time do you spend doing homework and studying on average?
    2. What kind of homework is most common? for ex: essay writings
    3. Do you have any free time?
    4. Is it hard to obtain a good GPA
    5. Is it better to go to a reputable school for a bachelors or masters degree?
    6. Is it worth getting an MBA after attending Schulich for undergrad?

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tiffany :) Sorry for the late reply. See my answers to your questions below:
      1. I'd say the workload is manageable I didn't find it too intense - there's a big caveat to that as it depends on the stream you end up specializing in. Accounting, for example, tends to have a higher workload.
      In general, you'd be spending 15hrs in class per week, and an additional 15hrs studying and preparing. This increases during midterm and finals season. Keep in mind this is only studying, extracurriculars will significantly add to this.
      2. In terms of homework, it depends on the course. In most cases there isn't weekly "homework" that's due. What homework entails is competing readings and preparing for the upcoming lecture, which could take a couple hours. Then there are quizzes, essays, cases for classes due throughout.
      3. Yes! I know the above sounds like a lot but you are able to get some free time. But I'm going to be honest, during midterm and finals season you may not, which is the harsh reality.
      4. In general yes, but depends on what you define good. I actually made a video on this topic called "Does GPA matter in university". Check it out!
      5. I'm not sure what schools you're comparing to, but Schulich is a well recognized school internationallly. You can't go wrong in my opinion.
      6. This is a tricky question it really depends. Honestly it's way too early to think about that I'd say don't worry about that right now. But to give you an answer it would depend on your career goals. I feel that an MBA for a business undergrad could be somewhat repetitive vs. Someone from a different background.
      Hope this was helpful!

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Schulich in particular does not have a built in co-op program; instead summer internships are emphasized. That being said, it could still be possible to do a co-op placement if you really feel it would add value by taking a semester off from school - it's not reccomended but is also not completely off the table. Keep in mind co-ops and summer internships are all competitive at the end of the day, and it really comes down to an individuals commitment and effort.

      So taking a look at the website, here's what I see under admission requirements that may be relevant to you:
      Work Experience is not required. Applicants may not have more than two years of full-time work experience.
      One year of full-time, post-graduate work experience required for applicants holding 3-year degrees.
      Applicants with two years or more of full-time work experience are not eligible for admission to the MMgt and are encouraged to apply to the MBA
      I would direct you to the website for the MiM, as well as to get in touch with admissions for further information.

      Thanks for watching Dhruv!
      So what's interesting about the Schulich i/BBA program is that there's no major. Instead it's speculations, which is a result of taking a couple of courses in a certain field.
      For me, I ended up specializing in Operations Management and Information Systems (OMIS) and Organizational Behavior. At the end of the day specialization doesn't really matter, unless it's for a more technical stream like accounting and finance (stay tuned for a video on this in the next little while).

    Schulich has 1 year program and the other one has 1 year+ co-op. Which one you'd say is better ?

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Rohit congrats on your admission!
      Both are very strong schools. My knowledge of those particular programs are limited but here's my two cents.
      From my experience, Schulich has a great marketing presence. The profs at the grad level are fantastic with loads of real life industry experience. There's a strong Alumni base in marketing. Looking at the MBA employment report for Schulich, Marketing was second highest in terms of industry of employment.
      Waterloo's biggest edge is the co-op. It does help with gaining industry experience. It also has a great reputation. Schulich doesn't have co-op built in, but does have opportunities for internships.
      At the end of the day it's your decision, and I'm definitely biased towards Schulich since I went there.
      I'd say look into the schools themselves outside of the particular program as well, as having a string alumni base, career support and programs is key. Also take a look at the employment report these schools put out. Lastly just do a simple search on LinkedIn for marketing jobs and filter by degree - you'd be surprised how useful this is.
      You can't go wrong with either schools - you're in a great position right now. Hope this helps!

    Does york or other universities look up to what high school you go to? As an international student, my school is not that reputable or known so I'm curious if it's a disadvantage when applying to Canadian universities.

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, they do look at the school you go to. From my experience, as long as the school is recognized and Accredited you should be fine. They may in some rare cases ask you to retake a pre-requisite course, but that is determined when you apply and submit your application. You will, however, most likely have to take an English Language test. This is just my opinion, it's best to directly get in touch with admissions for more specific and accurate answers.

      In regard the the Master of Accounting I suggest visiting the website directly for more information:
      schulich.yorku.ca/admissions/admissions-requirements/macc/
      Don't quote me on this, but I belive you may have to complete an extra year to get enough credits for your undergraduate degree. It's a complicated equivalency process. One of the organizations that does this is WES (World Education Services). You send them the degree and they equate it to a Canadian one and based on that you might need to do more courses. Sending your original degree to WES is a great option in my opinion - look into it if you haven't. You may even be able to call them and ask questions.
      Once again, I'm not an expert and this is just what I've heard. The best option would be to get in touch with the department by visiting the following:

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      First off, congrats in getting in to both schools!
      When it comes to the choice between the two, there's no "clear cut" answer. That being said there are some factors to consider:
      If you're thinking of going in to accounting/marketing Schulich in my opinion is a better option - both programs, especially actg are well defined with lots of exposure to big 4 companies.
      Sauder, on the other hand may be better for consulting and finance. You could also go into these streams from Schulich but they may be a bit more challenging (not impossible by any means)
      Other things to consider:
      Parent University (UBC is ranked higher than York University, but Schulich itself is more recognized by ranking)
      Cost (UBC would he significantly more expensive due to residence/cost of living along with higher tuition. Schulich is surprisingly "cheaper" than all other business schools of the same level)
      Community/student life (Sauder would def have more of a "traditional" uni feel and social life as you live on campus vs. York lacks that since it's mostly a commuter school. Essentially, you'd gave to put the effort in to get a good social life at York/Schulich, but at UBC it'd be more natural)
      Location (Schulich gets the points here as it's located in Toronto and all the big companies are headquartered here. So many people from other universities do internships and get full-time jobs in Toronto)
      Can't go wrong with either in my opinion, just a matter of weighing what's important to you.

    I want to go into investment banking, is Schulich iBBA a good option for that? I recently got into Schulich and Ivey and they are my top two choices, any advice/help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Between BBA/iBBA it won't make much of a difference. Both BBA and iBBA are very similar.
      From my observation, Ivey seems to be a better option for investment banking. A couple people in my year transferred to Ivey for investment banking. Schulich on the other hand doesn't have a strong curriculum for finance, but there are a lot clubs focused on investment banking that are useful.
      Long story short, if you're only looking at investment banking Ivey may be your best bet. If you're looking for a more well rounded experience/want to explore other areas as well Schulich might be a better option. It will definitely be a bit harder to get into investment banking from Schulich but not impossible if you're willing to put the work in.
      Hope this helps!

      I've had proffesors who teach in the program teach some of my classes, and they have been great. They are very experienced often having years of real industry experience.
      They've also launched a Centre of Excellence in Supply Chain & Logistics Management. There's lots of research and partnerships with leading companies and institutions.
      Overall great program from what I've heard. That being said I'm not the best person to ask for full details - I'd suggest reaching out to the team/program members directly.

      York University doesn't actually have an agency program or work directly with agencies from what I know. I would suggest applying directly by yourself, as I'm not sure what benefit an agency would provide and the process is quite straight forward..
      In regard to the scholarship, I hadn't heard that before but I did some digging and found that they are right - to a certain extent. On the Canada Immigration website (link below) it mentions under the "Who Can Apply" section that some scholarships may void your stay back permit and lists them. From what I understand, as long as you get scholarships other than these (ie. Directly from the university if eligible) you should be good.

    Could you help me understand what is per credit?
    And what is annual tuition fees for iBBA degree at schulich?

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Each class has a certain number of credits. Think of it like a point system - each class gives you a certain number of points if you complete it, and in order to graduate you need an x number of points.
      At Schulich/York, 1 semester classes are 3 credits. The full program is 120 credits (10 classes per year).
      So to find the tuition for the program, multiply the per credit cost by 120.
      So iBBA total tuition is:
      $38,818 (Domestic)
      $135,841 (International)

    Hi Yufes. Knowing that the opportunities are much better in USA, Why didn't you go to study in American business school?

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Good question - the main reason for me was the fact that I'm a Canadian citizen which means that I would be paying domestic tuition and have easy access to grants and loans. If I attended a school in the states it would cost significantly more. In terms of opportunities yes, the US may have more but Canada still has a good business sector. If ever I decided to move to the states there are ways to do so.

      Hey Sangeeta - the BBA program at Schulich is only offered as a full 4-year bachelor degree. If you'd like to explore other programs offered at Schulich, visit this link: schulich.yorku.ca/programs/
      From my understanding, advanced diplomas are typically only offered through colleges. This link gives more details on diploma options: www.ontariocolleges.ca/en/apply/program-types

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I did! I ended up taking all 3 maths in high-school. I'd reccomend taking both data and calculus as it is good knowledge to have and helps down the line. From what I know it doesn't effect your application which one you take.

    60k?... so i make 30$/h as a 1st term roofing apprentice as a summer job which equates to about 60k+ per year (full year*) with zero investment...but then again the working conditions should be a lot cozier and prestigious i guess.

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It definitely does seem low given the investment made in a degree. Trades jobs do for sure pay a lot more at the start. With degrees and schools like this, you start reaping the benefits a couple of years down the line, with people reaching 100k+ a couple years out. Also I think the main argument people make (which I think is slowly becoming less true) is that degrees lead to more growth opportunities to "climb up". At the end of the day, it does depend on what you want to do and focus on.
      That being said you seem to be in a great place right now, keep it up!

    • @nicolasdagenais396

      @@itsyusufkhan thank you, I'm currently studying electrical engineering and love it but I've always been interested in business as well. trades can be limited in terms of growth potential (unless you take the entrepreneurial route) as it is very specialized work. but in terms of salary you really cant go wrong as its all negotiated by unions. for roofing in my area, app1 get 30$ then after 2000hrs 35,5$ and 2000hrs after that you top out at 42$ or 48 if you're a foreman + performance bonuses... great breadwinner until you get old but even then there is a 74 year old guy on my crew working every day and he's an absolute beast lol

    • @itsyusufkhan
      @itsyusufkhan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's amazing! Union's are definitely great when it comes to that. Honestly, you can always go back to school for a business diploma or certificate. Better yet there is SO much free content out there can't go wrong. It is a grind though, as you'll be working 24/7 but it's worth it and rewarding.

      I'm assuming you're talking about the undergraduate program. Unfortunately you are not able to transfer to Schulich from another university. See below from the admissions website:
      "Please note, due to Schulich’s small program size, we are not able to accept applications from transfer students currently studying outside of York."
