I was one of the fortunate ones to attend a small, private, Bon Jovi concert in Woodstock, NY (a club called The Joyous Lake) in 1988 just before they were to leave for a Euro tour. I was never a fan but it was a great show and I got to meet John backstage. The band was wearing street clothes and their hair was not styled at all. I'm happy I attended.
I like this version so much more. I just love the "rawness" in this one , and I just love how he ends the "livin' on a prayer" sentence in a different tone than how he does it in the original studio version.
if I'm not mistaken Jon hated the song didn't want to put it out and Richie convinced him it was a hit. Jon Richie and Desmond wrote it but all credit IMO goes to Richie otherwise we wouldn't have gotten it
