Togashi has a way of writing a story, theme and characters that appeal to a wide range of folks. People just looking for a fight, suckers for romance, and even the intellectually curious. He writes a story that speaks to the whole human experience, it runs the gamut of emotion, expectation/surprise. There is an undeniable depth to his writing that the animators and translators of YYH really picked up on. 90s anime had a tone that matched these themes, whereas modern anime like 2011 HxH have a dissonance between their darker themes and the perpetually cheery/shiny animation.
My favorite anime of all time. The great characters, development, music, story, and (in my opinion) the greatest Tournament Arc in the history of anime!
Hey everyone, in this week's review I'm talking about Yu Yu Hakusho, a series that revolutionized anime and changed my life. Please let me know your thoughts on the series below!
YYH is the best anime without a doubt, no anime has characters as loveable as these guys, the tone of the anime just creates a sense of nostalgia, bringing back that awesome feeling of pure bliss you feel alot when you're a kid having fun. This anime let's you go on a real journey. Anyone who can relate to yusuke will without a doubt love this anime, my favourite episode was when puu came to carry the water for yusuke, shit had me crying.
toguro is a all time villain...people underrate him cause he simply gets buffer and challenges the boys to a tournament so on surface level he seems average but his connection to genkai his guilt his end are so well foreshadowed and told as is his connection to the boys..
im with u also. TOONAMI started me on that path.still TOONAMI gots me under they wings.loved all the amine that they had from dragonball z to gundam wing 2 yu yu hakashu&more.thats gots me into amine.a joyous time in my youth&now in my 40$
I feel this is a pretty good review of the show, but can't help feeling the art was represented poorly. Early on it's pretty rough, but as the series goes on there are a loooot of examples of strange, vibrant color palettes being used, quirky animation techniques and cool fights. E.g.: Doctor fight (obvious one), yusuke suffering with the spirit orb, sensui's hand-to-hand fights, any of the monochrome red or white scenes, and a lot of little things sprinkled throughout. Usually with Kuwabara or, weirdly enough, the Dark Tourney announcers.
I remember first catching Yu Yu Hakusho on Adult Swim in my bedroom at the apartment with my grandfather I shared. I heard them say it was adults only and Yusuke yell he was going to kick ass and was like "uh oh" and kept double looking around to make sure I wouldn't get caught watching it. lmao That opening theme grabbed me and I was into it ever since.
yusuke is great not too cliche but i like kuwabara more...hes got more heroic traits..yusuke is just badass and more of a smartass that lacks drive/motivation and needs to get that fire started externally rather than internally like say kuwabara has...i'm not a fan of the gifted main hero cliche...yusuke is too cool/strong for this kind of story..so is hiei...kurama is too smart and gets into weird situations for no reason that he should of been able to avoid for drama..genkai is both too wise and strong for any enemy until toguro to faze her for half the story.....kuwabara feels the most real and least like a oc action figure ...hes flawed and a true underdog with a knack of making friends
I love YYH a lot. People compare it to DBZ quite often and I have to dismiss those opinions. I know Funimation was responsible for bringing it over, it was the first series outside of DB that they licensed but besides that they are completely different shows. Nothing about them is similar with the exception of it being in the same genre, they go for completely different things and should not be compared to each other. That little rant aside, this show was fantastic. I know a lot of people don’t like the last arc, but I thought it was on par with the rest of the show. Did it feel a little rushed, yeah but that was because the original mangas author had a lot of personal problems and wanted to end the series because of those reasons. I don’t want a remake either, the show is perfectly fine the way it is.
By no means yyh is perfect, it has flaws but still one of its kind and has inspired a lot of anime today. No anime (eventho how good it is) can scratch the itch i have with yyh, its rly that unique in terms of the raw experience it has to offer.
Waiiiit “ I remember runnin thru the snow after the bud to watch Toonami “ …? When tf was ur school getting out bcoz that sht aired at like 8pm or later dude and always was a late block of animation LOLLLL
I disagree the three kings arc is by far the weakest. Due to it being rushed and lame that they just did “another tournament” the dark tournament was amazing they didnt need another tournament
i love the rescue yukina arc so much...people sleep on it...about 4.20 episodes long..full of fun and feels grand
when kuwabara went from a man to the a warrior of love

YYH will always be the GOAT for me. I just started another rewatch, and it never gets old. Not even the first episode. I get sucked in every time.

I hear you, sometimes I want nothing more than to go back to those simpler times...
Yu Yu Hakusho deserves more praise than Hunter X Hunter.
Nah

the characters have much more depth than dbz to be honest
yyh will always be my favorite anime oat. dub was great, character and plot was also great along with the ost.

i think yu yu hakusho lacks story but it makes up for it in character interactions..you just want to hang out with these guys
Yu Yu Hakusho has a fantastic story in my opinion. It does a good job on world building
lacks story? Okay...

My favorite anime of all time YYH
Fantastic video
Detective Saga>>>>>3 Kings Saga
Screw Trash Taste. All Respect to HAR
Im amazed how many younger people outright ignore YYH as if it were irrelevant...
The other openings?.... there is only 1 opening song, also the music is often cited as a high point
Didn’t anime come on later at night back in the day? Why would you rush home?
yu yu hakusho only excels at one thing I would say and thats it cast
Waiiiit “ I remember runnin thru the snow after the bud to watch Toonami “ …? When tf was ur school getting out bcoz that sht aired at like 8pm or later dude and always was a late block of animation LOLLLL

No, HXH is similar to YYH.
Came out way before.
He ended it soon due to bad health otherwise it probably would have continued
