Another enjoyable show, Larry. Would only mention that the Cat Stevens album you ranked was not “Tea for a Tillerman” but “Teaser and the Firecat.” Both are fine albums, and both have Stevens’s charming artwork, so they’re easily confused.
I like your choices of albums on the list and how you ranked them. My "S" list started with Who's Next, Sticky Fingers, Love It to Death, Led Zepplin's "Zoso" and Ram, but all five are tied at number one of my favorite albums of 1971. I remember almost all of these albums in the record stores that I used to visit and occasionally buy an album.
What an incredible amount of classic gem albums! Literally every album you ranked is essential. There is a recent book called Never a Dull Moment 1971 (The Year That Rock Exploded) by David Hepworth that explores that pivotal year in Rock albums.
Hey Larry! Always love watching these. I think 71-74 is the best 4 year stretch in the history of R&R, but I was surprised ow many of yours I do not own 13 of these. I would put 17 in the "S" tier. Great job as always!

Hi larry very nice 1971 tier list ,some of my favorite albums from 1971 are:, Golden earring seven tears, the who who's next,the rolling stones stickey fingers, Genesis nursery cryme, yes the yes album and fragile, Pink Floyd meddle, deep purple fireball, Led Zeppelin 4,Black Sabbath master of reallity, uriah heep solisbury and look at yourself, Jethro tull aqualung, the doors la woman, gentle giant aquaring the taste 👍✌️
I was born early January of 1971. I really haven't heard many of these albums, but all the ones I know, I really like! Only when KISS' Debut in 1974 came out that I really started getting into 'Modern' music of the day, as I grew up mostly on late 50's to early 60's Rock N Roll, because that's all my dad ever listened to!
Very impressive year for Yes with two all-time classic albums. That David Crosby album is very underrated. Many excellent guests on it. Who's Next my album of the year.
My top album for 1971 would be Who's Next with Led Zeppelin and Rod Stewart very close behind. I would have David Bowie in S tier as Hunky Dory is my favorite album of his. It was nice to see Killer up in S tier.
No question, 1971 was right in the middle of the most incredible era in the history of rock and roll. It was loaded with just one epic release after another. And I love that you gave The Doors the necessary props. But, that’s a great tier listing and wouldn’t be that easy for me to assemble. I also liked seeing some of the more obscure albums, particularly from ‘ Nektar ‘ and ‘ Hawkwind. ‘ Oh, and to answer your question about the Who vs. the Stones, well, no disrespect to the Stones but I’ll take Who’s Next over Sticky Fingers, anytime. 😆
1971 was a great year. I am MUCH more a 1970's guy than a 1960's guy when it comes to music. 1960's was the big revolution but picking between the decades would be a an easy choice for me. 1970's! The biggest difference between your picks and my would be Aqualung. That is a S-Tier for me. For sure. Loved it right away! I do really like Alice Cooper. Not just "The Group" but things from all the career. Still a strong live act too. However I find most albums quite uneven. Both Killer and Love It To Death does contain strong songs but also songs I don't care much for "Sun Arise" might be 2/5 for me as an example. Black Juju has a cool bassline and a is a cool idea but nine minutes? I honestly get very bored with that one. I remember you ranking albums by Deep Purple with Rod Evans and Nick Simpler rather high which is very cool. Those three early albums tend to be forgotten often. A bit surprised though that Come Taste The Band ranked rather low and Fireball (my favorite of the band) is something you hardly listened to. You might have to become.. Deep Purified ;D Between Who's Next and Sticky Fingers? That a hard one (no pun intended). Both has great and classic songs.. Not sure either album is that strong start to finished though. "You Gotta Move" and "I Got the Blues" are Stones songs that is, for me, significantly weaker than anything else on there. Like you.. I like everything with early The Doors and glad they ended with L.A. Woman. A top 3 album from that band.. For me!

Fabulous year for heavy rock. For me, Black Sabbath's 'Master of Reality' is way above the pack. Also in S-tier and a big gap from Sabbath are: Uriah Heap - Look At Yourself, Budgie (self titled), Sir Lord Baltimore (self titled), May Blitz - The 2nd of May, Flower Travellin' Band - Satori, Deep Purple - Burn, The Yes Album, Gentle Giant - Acquiring The Taste. A-tier: Led Zep IV, Uriah Heap - Salisbury, Yes - Fragile, Atomic Rooster - In Hearing Of, Hawkwind - In Search Of Space, Birth Control - Operation, Pink Fairies - Never Never land, ELO debut, Ram - Paul McCartney.
I think my fav album of the year is Sticky Fingers. I like Imagine more than RAM and I would put it in the S. Santana 3 and Aqualung are also really good.
‘71, ‘72 & ‘73 are generally my favourite years for music. A lot of tomato soup was being consumed. It’s almost freakish the quality of music coming out in those years. I don’t think we’ll see another era like it.
Deep Purple have the unique distinction of having had a UK #1 album airbrushed out of history. I think Fireball did quite well in America too, just a few months before Machine Head / Smoke on the Water (very obscure album/song), but maybe I imagined the band's very existence.
Biggest issues with your ranking is Neilson Schmeilson should be A or S, Electric Warrior should be A or S and Aqualung should be A or S. Also I love those Alice Cooper albums but Killer is probably an A or B tier, Love it to Death I have no issues with being at S
@@chrisdelisle3954 Those 3 albums were all done with the same band lineup, right? I was considering taking a break after Red where their lineup changes drastically. I like doing a tier list at the end of the year for every album I listened to during the year and I don't think I can finish their discography and give each album a fair relisten before the end of the year.
@@Syprone Virtually the same line-up, yes. They initially started as a quintet: with Jamie Muir on percussion. He left not long after "Larks Tongues In Aspic" had been released. They toured for a year or so before and during the making of "Starless And Bible Black." Before they made "Red," Fripp didn't ask David Cross (violin/mellotron) to be back. "Red" was mainly a trio. If you enjoy the 1972-1974 period, you really oughta get their box set "The Great Deceiver," a 4-disc box set of live shows. Good luck to you!
It must get annoying always having to explain yourself. My top S tier albums from your list are Surf’s Up, Imagine, Master of Reality, Electric Warrior, LA Woman, Sticky Fingers, Led Zeppelin 4 and Ram. I am glad you didn’t put Who’s Next at 1 😊 It’s one album I can’t get into 🤷🏽♂️
Wings Wild Life although it's got some great songs on it Larry I still consider it rushed and unfinished,Electric Warrior I feel contains the sexiest rock song ever made with Bang A Gong,I loved Roundabout by Yes and the song Imagine as nice as it is an atheist,socialist anthem,Cat Stevens was my favorite folk rock singer and I owned Teaser and the Firecat and yes I agree with you on Ram,it's one of Paul's best if not his best. Hi Larry the Moody Blues, The Band, and Jethro Tull covers all had a weird texture kind of like a mat finish.

Hey Larry, I have a question. When you say under 50 minutes, do you mean the album has to be under 50, or the video is 50 minutes long?

I just began listening to King Crimson a few days ago. Based off first listen, I would put Islands in D tier, but albums 1-3 are all at least A.
