- I promise I have personality, I am just awful at reading scripts and not making it sound like I'm reading a script, besides that I've linked all of my favorite resources below for things you might need along the way, best of luck :)

First of all, just wow, you guys are insane, I didn't expect this video to do this well. Second at the time of you reading this I've released my first official project on my itch page, if you play it let me know what you think, the game --> oktogami.itch.io/somnium
Im in the same situation what the
Your gonna blow up my dude
This video pretty much summed up the answers to all the problems I had going through my head. Keep up the good work!
"Anyone can make games" is so true, if a blind person who failed intro to computers can do it (me), you can do it too.
The RPG Maker engine has been a lifesaver for me.
Are you sure...? Genuinely asking because I can't for the life of me grasp even editing Minecraft mod config files...
who's the blind guy?
@@catbatrat1760 Editing these buggy garbage files from existing games is way more difficult then making and understanding slabs of code.
I once edited a hat in TF2 and i still don't know how i made sense of that file, i think it was a shader? i dont even know..
Good luck on your game dev journey man!
Thank you both for everything ! I'll do my best to give you a good name through my work, Cheers !
I've been sketching ideas for years, and I finally took the plunge and started learning gamemaker yesterday. I'm looking forward to learning alongside everyone here
I love to hear that !
thats great! my experience with gamemaker was exceptional as a beginner :D
Me too (with sketching and noting)
And started with a unity tutorial yesterday and tried following a bit
I've been in game dev for the last 13-years. Honestly, it all started from me thinking "This game is cool.. I wonder if I could make such a thing." Well, in the end I discovered that I can, anyone can in fact. Just like with other hobbies, like playing an instrument, singing, jogging, you can start at pretty much anytime at any age.
Extremely well said :)
13 subs eh? I'm kinda impressed TH-cam suggested you. Pretty decent content, you might blow up one day. Or make a game, that would be cool too!
You all just keep coming ! and I can guarantee you I'll be making some games :)
506 now 😮
600 now, im at 630 you’ll surpass me
696
958 subs now :3
Woah.. Never seen a video that said "No views"... except mine lol. This was a great start, so keep going! Subbed! I would probably change the title to include games or something adjacent to it? Might help find it's audience.
As for gamedev stuff, welcome! It's going to be a long and arduous journey, but it really is one of the most rewarding things I've done!
Apparently the algorithm destined you to watch my video then, appreciate the kind words :)
this video is all i need bro thank you very much. i started gamedev 2 months ago and im already on the part where everything is already set and all i need to do is do the job but i don't know there's always a fear of not reaching my own expectation but you know risk is better than regret Im gonna YOLO this shit
Go for it !
I've also started gamedev recently and I also want to create content about it and as Im doing it, youtube keeps recommending me more and more people that all are very interested about making games and making content out of it! it seems to be a new era of youtube for us gamedev lovers and I gotta say I really like it. good luck to you and other people that are starting to learn gamedev
Good luck to you as well !
I got ideas, just not the patience with myself. That's why I've not yet picked up on actually making games, it's tough to learn and even harder when you're constantly tearing yourself up inside.
The learn by leo free sound effects go crazy 😭
Bro, this video style is amazing, I thought you where one of those 100K youtube channels just by watching the video. You have a lot of potential, keep it up!
Bruh saw a comment of someone saying you had 13 subs two weeks ago, and you at 1.06k at the time of this message. My guy, congratz. It's the beginning of something great. I subbed and am eager to see what you come up with
I'm glad you were blessed by the algorithm and I hope you keep making great content!
I'm glad I came across this video. I'm learning C# right now at age 32 with basically no prior coding knowledge. I finally reached that tipping point where I'm itching to write code every day. My real goal is game development though, so I've also done a tiny bit of tinkering with Unity and Godot.
But yeah, this video really resonated with me and gave me a boost I needed. Thank you!
I love hearing that !
Bro. This Video is for me the "Last push" you talked about in this Video. Im just gonna start making a game right now.
I've been wanting to start making games for a while, and have actually started learning a few times, but I can never stick with it. This video is very inspiring and is making want to start again! I'll try to actually finish something this time!
This video is very well put together, I actually thought you had a lot more subscribers until you started talking about hoping one of your videos blows up. Great work, I hope game development and your channel go well for you in the future! I'm definitely subscribing, seeing peoples' progress from the start or near start is always very inspiring and interesting for me!
Great to hear ! and thankyou :)
first of all, amazing video, recently I've been procrastinating on becoming game dev and this video has been a huge inspiration, thank you, subbing fs.
Appreciate that :)
Hey, just wanted to say, i went to the same cycle. Being interestet once, but nearly giving up on the idea. Then Pirate Software showed up and my passion started again. Your Video literly made me tear up. Much love
My issue has never been knowing that I can make games. But burning out of sheer passion.
I'd start a project, work on it on ALL of my free time, and after a month or some weeks, just be burned out and unable to continue the project without feeling anxious.
Gotta start small, I have the same problem, having a smaller scope helps alot
@@Oktogami08 Oh yeah I tend to start small, but I tend to reach that scope quickly (because I kinda hyperfocus) and add more into the scope.
I've never had a project go out of scope (the scope of what I can realistically achieve), but I just burn out when reaching the final stages of polishing and replacing the developer art.
Anyways, thanks for the feedback
A very well-done video :) Thanks for the daily inspiration! Subscribed, looking forward to seeing more content from you.
Thankyou !
I've just started in game dev recently, and Thor has been a big influence.
I've had a lot of ideas bouncing around in my head when it comes to gamedev and youtube videos I want to make about games I like or am making, people like you are the ones that remind me to have that 1 second of courage it takes to start and just do it. Thank you brother, you will go far.
I really appreciate this video, as it hits pretty close to home. Have little to no experience with gamedev and even less confidence in starting. But Thor(Pirate Software) has been all over my page as well and now I keep getting videos on other game devs making cool stuff. So I guess I gotta take the hint and make something, right? I'm quite happy to catch your channel when it's fairly small as I think it'll be quite encouraging seeing you learn and share your experience and seeing the channel grow. I think I speak for most if not all when I say don't give up on this thing. We eagerly anticipate your progress. Anyways, enough yapping from me.
That's amazing to hear ! That was the sole purpose of the video, I'm telling you its worth your time. Appreciate the kind words, I'll stop yapping now.
Whilst not identical, I can really identify with a lot of the feelings from this video and my journey with youtube and getting into gamedev, so, well done! Good points, put forward well. I hope your journey onwards from this point is a fulfilling one!
Like Wise !
My thing is I don't necessarily want to be a game dev but I have considered it just to make a game that both me and my girlfriend would like because we like different kind of games so I would want to make something we would both enjoy. I know that sounds corny but thats basically my only motivation.
Whenever I make my games (I found this quote on twitter), I just makes games I would’ve loved when I was younger like platformers, or adventure games like Zelda, since they don’t make a lot of games like it anymore and I kind of just want to “fill in” the void.
This is a really heartfelt video. I'm not new to gamedev, but if I were I could definitely see this video being a catalyst for me.
Thankyou !
JUST DO IT!!! don't let your dreams be dreams!
Hhhmmm, high quality editing, good point, under 500 subs? Thats criminal that your so underrated.
Thank you !
I doubt anyone is going to read this, but at this point, I just need to get it off my chest.
Im tired, I'm tired of sinking years of my life into wanting to make games and getting absolutely no where.
Roblox when I was a super little kid was my first inspiration and got me trying to make gun models and the like, as well as trying to make games based off the games I played and thought were fun.
Naturally I didn't get too far, but then I found Scratch in 5th grade. I began making games with it, drawing stuff out, learning all I could, but it still wasn't what I wanted and nothing turned out quite how I hoped.
I had tried to learn unity here and there, but programming was complicated and I barely understood anything, so I tried to take programming and computer classes whenever I could.
All that happened was me getting to learn the basics of python over, and over, and over again. And that didnt get me any closer to knowing how to code in C#, but I kept hoping that maybe some class would teach me.
I went through middle school, and all of high school, but nothing. And so then I hoped college would *finally* teach me how to program so I could make games.
But no, I got to learn a tiny bit of linux, and then yet again more basics of Python. And then I couldn't pass the stupid math class requirements for further classes, so thousands of dollars basically thrown in a fire pit for no reason.
So then I try to learn Unreal Engine's blueprints, because I want to make more open world styled games. And I think im making some progress going through tutorials, but all im learning how to do is the most mundane of things that barely even contributes to the types of games I *actually* want to make.
Now I'm trying to balance out a job, learn 3D modeling and spending countless hours just trying to just get the most basic feature of my game to work.
I can't afford at this point to wait yet more decades of struggling to learn how to make diddly freaking squat.
Im tired of pointless projects that take me no where, with everything I try to learn barely even applying to what I actually want to do.
Im sick and tired of it all, and so at this point I just want to have someone else program and I focus on all the other parts.
I wanna make something that isnt a useless novelty, learn something from it that will take me further than half a step forwards when my goal is miles away.
If someone by some miracle got to this point, I thank you for taking the time to listen to me ramble and rant about my life. I just pray that you are at least finding more success.
That 1 second of courage thing is so real. Good video!
Means alot coming from you !
Dont wanna be that Person but, You here? Thats crazy! Love your stuff and this video was very inspiring.
This was really inspirational,I can relate to a lot of the things your saying and I might try game dev soon
I think you should, you seeing this video is a sign !
Amazing! I'm not really into game dev, nor do I ever plan on it. It's just not something for me as I've found my true passion in video editing. But this video works as an inspiration not only to game development, but really anything. You just have to take the leep in order to make it start working. That one second of bravery.
I love hearing that !
damn, dope video dude! good editing and writing, just subbed :) hope to you see you keep growing
Thank you !
to underated i wish you the best of luck ♥♥
Thankyou !
Been seeing more and more of these types of videos and it's actually pushed me to finally give game making a try and now me and my friends are making an RPG about breakfast
Look like the algorithm chose well!
Thank you for making this, man. You have no idea how much I needed that
That was a really great video and i need more of just that encouragnment, because i always turn myself down and get lazy. its really annoying. I hope one day that will change, thanks for the help :D
I love to hear that !
Going Hard and starting today. Thank you
It's fine if you read script LOL you sound great. It seems algorithm gave me this video because you're using Godot, which I've been looking into recently since I wanted to make a different kind of game with a more general, optimized engine
The great block for most people really is not being able to do certain kind of tasks, such as programming, make art etc (you name it, but I heard these two very often), and it's honestly just as you said: there's a lot of resources available out there and this applies to all aspects of game development, be it tutorials or things you can use, such as plugins and assets.
It goes without saying that there's learning process to everything, and while it's easier to just pay someone else to do the task, the learning process is rewarding in itself (plus most people don't have the money for that, just like me, so why not just... do it yourself...)
Good luck with your journey
Good to hear ! (i use unity tho...)
@@Oktogami08 My bad.... this is cue I should start now just as title says
thanks for the inspiration, i just subbed to your channel
This video is SOOO relatable. I can totally relate to trying to publish videos on a new channel but getting shut down with only a few views. I enjoyed this video and hope you can find success on this channel and maybe even make some cash ;D
Best of luck ☺
Thank you !
Just started youtube myself and seeing you make such high quality edited content. phenomenal job.... seriously, cant wait what else you make.
Appreciate the kind works !
Great video you deserve more views + yesterday i took the 1 second courage and boom i made a good looking main menu thank you a lot for this video
Thats awesome ! (I've got alot of mainmenu screens to make myself today :p)
@@Oktogami08 good luck with that ui design is fun but kind of annoying when it comes to different resolutions
This is a great video. Can't believe it only has 300 views.
That means a lot coming from you ! sorry I didn't mention you in my video but your up there with every one else I mentioned I promise
@Oktogami08 Haha, thank you! 😅 I am no one compared to those legends. They all inspired me, too.
Keep uploading brother your content is very enjoyable
I'm just a guy who lives in Argentina and is studying programming, we had the choice to do a normal program or a videogame in one of the subjects as a final project, guess what did I choose.
I did not regret it, I have been studying and seeing how people make games even before entering university. After so much time finally gave in.
Don't wait, "why wait?" go ahead and try so you could say you at least tried.
I also have been acquiring skills aside , my art is better now.
Sure, the first step is hard but you will see how it will grow, can't say for others but I'm planning on doing more projects and when I get finally the experience I need I'll publish my first game, good luck to y'all, try and keep dreaming on to make your visions true.
godspeed, my friend. May you be guided towards, and not against, the light which will fulfill you with happiness and purpose. I too, am in the same boat, and I hope we can sail towards that goal together in spirit.
There is no captain in this world who can see the land of their destination - but make no mistake he knows where he's going and how to get there. The latter is what makes them effective. May our hands be guided!
Well said. best of luck on your journey !
@@Oktogami08 liked and subbed. Walk the path sir.
ive tried to make a game some times, but i given up on the early stages everytime.
Even then its always heartwarming to see someone do invested, hope everything go well for you, great video
Nice video. Got me to 'click the join button'.
Maybe this will be the week I commit to game dev.
Thanks for sharing, I'm also decided to do the same and start my own game dev journey and document it on youtube and your video showed up just in the right time to make me keep doing it. and sorry for my bad English 😅😅
That's great to hear ! I wish you the best on your gamedev journey :)
@@Oktogami08 thanks bro
I've been trying to finish my first map for my game project ( I plan to make 14 which is an enormous number for one person lmao ). I usually do a lot in a short span of time but then take long breaks. You convinced me to get back to work right away
calamity music jumpscare
crazy timing, i've already started just a month ago, and i've been procrastinatiing, sighhhhhhh
I want to learn Godot and soon start with specific tasks and learn slowly. But this year I want to release 1-2 very crappy games to get an overview
Personally, I would suggest for TH-cam having your own profile pic to stand out. I like the vid, I'm new to gamedev too and it's going quite well. Not much done just because I don't use an engine, but it's going well.
One day this will be my own profile pic, just wait
Very nice edit for a first vid! Keep it coming and fangs crossed you'll grow in no time :)
Thankyou ! :)
Underrated video and channel keep it up
Thannkyou
Really nice video, enjoyed this greatly
Thankyou !
I needed that, thank you
Of course
OMG I remember playing Monster Jam when I was like 5 years old but I had no idea what the game was called.
My issue is I'm an ideas person, not an artist. I've tried making games and such, but you almost always need art, and then I get critical because it looks so janky. If I didn't have to worry about art, I have so many fun mini-game ideas
Im learning how to do 3d art myself right now, so for a placeholder I just use free asset packs off of places like itch or unity, by people that are far more knowledgeable or talented than myself
Excellent video ! A freakin pearl even
Thankyou !
great video, pre times skip shanks!
thank you so much, i will start learning now
Great to hear !
Great video, and I hope you pick up a following in a format that you enjoy making soon!
Thank you, and I'm gonna try !
Great editing man, as someone who edits a lot of the day.
Appreciate it ! :)
Inspiring words from Shanks. Based on this 1 video I've watched from you, you deserve way more exposure. Great video, keep it up!
I will :)
Pirate Software is amazing
This is something that I have put a lot of thought into myself so this video is great timing haha. I even had the same mindset when making videos and it caused me to upload my first and now just trying to continue. Now I want to do the same with game development as well and your video does a god job at showcasing why someone should. Can't wait to see where you go!
I love hearing that, this is exactly why I made this video, glad to hear I'm not alone in this. Best of luck to you ! :)
So inspiring... I am learning Godot and I was thinking of quitting because it is "too hard", but when I saw this video it really inspired me to keep at it. So, thank you, thank you very much. Btw I am also a big One Piece fan! You just got another subscriber!
Great to hear that !
Currently stuck understanding some stuff in Godot right now and it’s really discouraging to continue but then I remembered that I just started game development and there’s still a lot for me to learn.. really excited to see how far i go and how many games I make.. Glad to also see starting devs here it really boosts my motivation!
That's the sole reason for the video, don't give up it's not worth it, good luck on your journey !
3k views on first video?
I guess you’ve just won the youtube lottery
good luck with the future :)
I suppose your right, thankyou :)
i love the inclusion of celeste gameplay, as climbing the mountain in the game is kind of symbolic of overcoming challenges in your life, like, for example, learning how to make games
some people might tell you you'll never make it, hell maybe you yourself is gonna say you'll never make it, but it's important to still push on
great stuff
Your the first person to notice, haha
Usually I don't leave any comments, but my dream is to create a fighting game someday. Maybe, I'll manage to do it at some point
A few days ago I realized that I've been taking courses and watched tutorials for 2 years now and I haven't even started to create anything 😂 I've gone through the 3 main game engines there are and well, maybe it's time to start doing something of my own? 😅.
ur a real one for Monster jam wii
Hell yeah
I don't know if I can start right now- life is very overwhelming for me where I am currently. But this helped remove the barrier in my head that just said "Maybe someday..."
I'll do it! I'll make a game. Maybe multiple games! It might not be immediately, but I'm definitely going to try.
Priorities suck huh, I wish you luck when that day comes !
,,I am just awful at reading scripts and not making it sound like I'm reading a script" I didn't ever mind that until reading the description, I like ur voice
Thankyou :)
@@Oktogami08 yo I just installed your game (circular mayhem) and clicking on the start button does nothing. Any fixes??
I just tried it and it worked, but I also haven't worked on that game in a while, if you select the other worlds you have to buy them with coins, the first one is free
This is that video, mate
Thanks mate.
Welcome to my front page. I'm already making games though :D Have been for like 4 years.
It really has never been this easy to make games as it is now with commercially available engines that you can use or at the very least try out for free
(Unreal, Unity, Godot, GameMaker... etc.)
If you can think logically, you can make games.
Exactly, most people don't realize how simplified and streamlined its become
Cant wait for the next vid
Subscribed; good luck with your game pal!
This video is awesome!!! Thanks :)))
Thank you !
Great video! Your quality is so high! You deserve a lot more attention, buddy
Thankyou !
Holy shit, you are like the first person to even mention playing Monster jam, It was one of my first ever games I played. The whole video was duper relatable for me. Great job man 👍
Thats the one thing I didn't expect people would relate to ! haha
I havent related harder to a video like this, really. I'm not that old and i grew up with wii and xbox360. Thinking about how i grew up with games like castle crashers and donkey kong country returns. And then a big aspect for me that wants me to get into game design, is that i am an artist. and art for me has always been fun, so it wont be tedious (that's just me though).
I know about blackthornprod and pirate software, i have my childhood friend group who want to do game dev. I draw and think of the games i want to make, i know my favorite video games of all time that i aspire to be.
I need to just make a game.
So my idea is this. I have a hard time with motivation, so maybe if I'm motivated to do something I love I'll commit to it. So throughout this school year I'll start learning game dev (more like taking notes..) in my spare time, and next summer I'll begin working on the blackthornprod course and talk to my friends about this stuff.
Thank you for inspiring me!
I wish you the best of my luck !
Awesome video man!
Thank you
Great video, I got into making a game in Godot recently and it has been going great. It has been a bit lonely and I’d love to have someone else to work with though 😅
Its a hermit lifestyle unfortunately, glad to hear its going great for you though, keep it up !
Dang this is motivating. Might just rev up the ol rpg maker and finally complete a story
Its a sign
idk why this is in my feed cause I have no interest in making games but I hope everyone achieves their dream!
this is really good!
Thankyou !
Pirate Software is a goat
i can relate to literally every single sentence you said in this video
Good, thats why I made the video :)
We'll be here
I really like the idea of making games, but I just can't get myself to make art for them and this really throws me off this path
I've been trying to make games since 2020 and have only been able to get a character moving around. Just a couple weeks ago I got sucked into it again and have been studying python and making simple projects so I can get into the groove of programming. Eventually I'm gonna try making something on Godot. Good luck on your journey!
Likewise !
Your audio quality is very good
Thankyou !
Bro, sinking money into cars that keep breaking down IS being an adult lmao. love the video bro. have a good day. ✌♥
