    This is so incredibly helpful Navid - my struggle is with rhythm and learning to play with other musicians and this gives me a pathway and hope! Thank you, brilliant as always to absorb your breadth of knowledge that you share so generously

    I am seeing many videos saying that the risha should be at an angle to the thumb so the idea of it being an extension of the finger nail seems at odds with that. I tried it myself and the angle seems indeed better though I am too much of a beginner to have an opinion.
    EDIT: I actually seeing you holding it at an angle too 😄

    If I learn how to play the oud with a teacher as a beginner would it be okay for me to learn other techniques by myself? So I learn with a teacher for about a year and then I venture off on my own and carry on my oud journey through self learning

      I guess it depends on you and how you learn. There are many musicians who are completely self-taught. So, why not?
