In their last 10, the Evans line is the following: Heineman: 4G, 5A, 9P Armia: 3G, 3A, 6P Evans: 5G, 3A, 8P They have combined for 12 goals and 23 points in 10 games as 4th line guys. They are a huge reason we got these wins. Heineman is a criminally underrated rookie. He averages the lowest deployment out of any guy on the habs (11:00 toi/g), is a rookie, and has 10 goals, 7 assists in 38 games. He is 4th on the team after only Suzuki, Caufield and Laine for points per 60 minutes.
@@austyn307 one copy le argue he is doing so well because he is on the fourth line. I like him. He's doing a great job. Not sure he has tons of room in the top 6.

As a habs fan i'm happy no matter what happends Seeing these players grow has been amazing even if we don't make the playoffs as long as were close I would call this a successful season
I believe I saw Heineman is 2nd in the NHL for goals from players with under 12 minutes TOI. Heineman plays the fewest minutes on the Habs roster and has 10 goals in his rookie year and I think is up there on our hits list as well!
Yet again Jesse Blake, excellent use of graphics on the recap. If you have access to the footage, maybe play it side by side with the graphic with you on top and it could be something that everyone wants to watch that no other channel is providing. Keep innovating as you are showing how talented you are at this. Go Habs Go!
Laine's return gave the team an electrochock of positivism, then Carrier stabilized the players in the role they are supposed to do. They still have to learn to be consistent as they are still young but this series of victory against some of the best teams of the league show them what they are capable of. This is as fun to watch as it is to listen to my fellow CH fans going from "fire everybody" to "this is the best team" within a game, and the eternal negative ones who will always find something going wrong, having been hurt from believing before and swore to never feel this way again :D

Great for Canadian hockey.Edmonton,Winnipeg and Toronto are contenders, but its nice to see Ottawa and Montreal getting there also.Hope all Canadian teams make the playoffs.
As always Jesse a really good balanced analysis. The team's aspiration this year was to be playoff contenders. Too bad the team got such a poor start to the year or the Habs would be in a playoff spot. Come on Jesse who wouldn't want a Canadiens-Leafs playoff series?
Not me. My heart can't handle it. 2021 was sweet but lightning won't strike twice. The only way I can psychologically deal with a Canadiens-Leafs series is when Habs are hands down favorites and we're still years away from that.
Maybe the Leafs. Given their struggles in the first round (which I think will not happen this year) the losing of losing again to the Habs again would be too stressful for Leafs fans.
It's so hard to say in the Atlantic division, for years it's been the most competitive division in the league. I think they might push the last wild card spot in the east if they can stay relatively healthy and dobes goes on a mad heater. Either way it's going to be fun to watch
I've been enjoying this run has a fan. Even with the lost vs Chicago and Columbus, you can tell the team has transitioned. There has been a lot of buy-in to Marty's system and they're showing results. The goal was to be in "the mix" and they're managing to do it after a horrible start.

Part of growing is the experience of being in the mix. I think they’ll NOT sell off at the deadline. Maybe trade one out and one in for a push. GO HABS GO!
Yes, I think their patience is now paying off. To blow the future on a big trade now would threaten all that good work. You are right that they might trade to improve, but only if it makes long term sense,
Great analysis! I’ve been a Joel Armia fan ever since those Covid playoffs when he was playing on the most effective 4th line ever with Eric Staal and Corey Perry. He can contribute offensively and he’s one of the best in the league in forecheck. The way he protects the puck and tires the opponent is underrated. If i’m a contender, that’s a player I want in my bottom 6
I said in the offseason all they needed to do was start to correct the goal differential they had last year and I'd be happy. It didn't look like they were progressing in the first few months but I like what I'm seeing now.
The acquisition of Carrier has enabled Martin Saint-Louis to put all his defenders in the right chair. Savard, who played on the 3rd pair, slowed down this year, allowing him to play fewer minutes and be more effective. He no longer has to play against the best lines.
Just something I noticed, in the NHL, that Caufield goal was assisted by Suzuki and Hutson, but in the KHL, Hutson wouldn't get the assist. That's the difference between awarding assists based on the last two puck touches, as the KHL does; vs awarding it based on the last 2 players to touch the puck prior to the scorer getting the puck, as the NHL does. Completely irrelevant to the point, I just find it interesting.

When a few or those 6-7 mil a year guys move on or retire then we’re gonna have a nasty team. Our first line, as much as we love them, gets mollywhopped by just about every other teams first line. The Canadians are quite a few years from their last cup, close to the number of teams in the league for us. That's not a good look. Maybe two of four or something this time

It is, unfortunately. As much as I wish this streak of good games continues, it realistically can't go on for half the season. The poor start of the season killed it. Boston is fighting for the wc as well. 4 points clear yes but 5 more games played than Tampa, 3 more than some of the others. Zero chance Boston makes the playoffs if the season ended at 41 games.
its useless to make the playoffs if you dont win the stanley cup, cause you get a worse draft pick. thats why they should reward the teams that try and reverse the lotterie, 16th get the best odds and 1st the worst to get first pick.
Armia, Dvorak and Savard are gone after this season. I think Evans will be too. I understand the argument. But the habs need to grow not stay the same. Evans current year iproduction s not the norm.
Offensively, yes. However, he’s one of the best PK guys in the league. Is strong on faceoffs, and Habs don’t have a current option to replace that in their system. Beck isn’t ready for that. Hage is two years away (at least). You need players like Evans. With cap going up, Evans at 3.5 is worth it in a third line C role, which is what he is.
I don't think they are going to make it because management is going to make a hard decision and sell Armia, Savard & Dvorak at the deadline as they look for long term success over the short term. It's going to be the equivalent of Philly selling off Sean Walker last year. They are still going to push, and Canadien fans should be happy with this season, but they'll be 10th or 11th when the season is over.
They certainly have to sell Dvorak no matter what, they obviously acquired Carrier to compensate for Savard eventual departure, but plans can change especially if the return for Savard is only draft capital. Armia is really starting to grow on me, it really depends on his asking price if we keep him or not. Anything under 2.5 AAV would make him a keeper,, short term. If he’s willing to go lower in AAV i wouldn’t mind him long ish term. Also, keeping Armia would definitely mean get rid of Anderson ASAP, to make cap space obviously, but we got young forwards knocking at the door that can do a lot more than him … and without goal scoring Anderson is just a much worse Armia.
Dvorak is expendable and you can use that roster spot to give some prospect(s) a sneak peek into the big league. Savard I don't think would bring that much in anyway, so might as well keep him. Even for long term, he's probably more valuable as a veteran mentor for the young defenseman than a late second round pick or whatever they might get for him. Armia is an interesting piece and might be more valuable re-signed instead of traded.
I'd say if they had laine the whole season things would look a lot different. Carrier has been a huge boost and dobes granted it's only 2 games is looking like a diamond in the rough
