Yes, you're spot on, and for quite some time judging by how little of the tyres are still attached to the rims. And that, unfortunately, is why having stop sticks installed on highway exits to burst the tyres of wrong way vehicles just won't work. A lot of drivers involved in wrong way incidents are too impaired to notice that they're driving on punctured tyres, so they're not going to stop even if all the tyres are down, but the vehicle is going to be just about uncontrollable, making it far, far harder for the drivers travelling in the correct direction to avoid them, not that that is often possible due to the closing speeds of the vehicles...

It’s very surprising the Dodge Ram Truck still had electrical power to run the hazard and third brake light. I used to investigate cars that were involved in fatal accidents in Overland Park, Kansas with my Auto Tech teacher Tom Brown. He used to go around to all of the fire stations and instructed the first responders to cut the negative battery cable immediately upon coming to a crash scene. He wanted the volume on the radio to be where it was during the crash along with turn signal indicators, anything that could have distracted a driver he wanted left as is. I saw some pretty gruesome stuff in the years I helped him. We looked at and recorded tires, tread depth, serial numbers on the tires, brake pad thickness and for operation of the brakes if they still worked or were damaged in the accident. It was very interesting to be able to help him throughout my 3 years in high school and then some years after I graduated!
So sad for the innocent. 😒 Ya gotta be pretty messed up to drive the wrong direction on any road. Much less a freeway. I pray each time I get on I45 to go north of Madisonville once a week from Houston. The HOV lane between Conroe and 1960 are notorious for constant violators. Most contain single occupants that speed, weaving in and out of the lane where it has a double white lines. Why the state decided on that set up is beyond me. And after my wreck Nov 30th on Rayford and I45 intersection, I'm on edge anyway thanks to a red light runner. Lucky to be alive. Stay safe everyone.

Interesting, alot of these wrong way head on collisions seem to happen in the inside lane. If the rightway driver had gone to the outside lane, it might have been avoided? too many drivers cruising in inside Fast lane instead of the outside slow lane, where at least you can go off the road in an emergency, along with the drivers passing on right when there is no reason to as the left is clear. Our driving laws say on coming cars pass one another with the drivers facing one another.......seems panic takes over and causes the innocent to do the opposite and go passenger to passenger leaving no where to escape....

The unbelievable condition of those vehicles indicate extreme speed at impact. I’ve watched a lot of dash cam videos where people walk away from accidents that, at first glance, seem pretty bad and just 20 years ago would have caused serious injury or death. Late model cars and trucks ARE safer than ever, but once a certain combined speed collides, our bodies cannot handle the g-forces of deceleration. Sad.

While those five in the truck were well within their right to be on the road, and they were victims, a defensive driver would avoid being on the road at that hour in the first place.

She evidently entered on an exit ramp. They need to put those plates on the exit ramps that stand up and give you a flat if you drive over it in the wrong direction, like they have in parking garages.
That's how rescue vehicles get on. There are signs that light up saying wrong way.
I have often wondered if the parts dangling from the wrecks come off while being towed away. Anyone know?
My son's accident his car split into 3 sections and one of the section's came off of one of the wreckers as they were pulling away from the scene
Usually they are put on the wrecker the roll them up on and all parts secured in cases like this. They won't use regular wreckers.

@@notmyfault6835 You are correct. News station said it was a Honda. Back logo confirms it's an Acura

Ya gotta be pretty messed up to drive the wrong direction on any road.

Actually, it's the outside lane here. The woman had just gotten on. That's where they get on at. Stay in the middle lane on a freeway.

The unbelievable condition of those vehicles indicate extreme speed at impact. I’ve watched a lot of dash cam videos where people walk away from accidents that, at first glance, seem pretty bad and just 20 years ago would have caused serious injury or death. Perhaps installing tire spikes at the end of the exit ramps to stop or at least discourage wrong way drivers from entering the freeway the wrong way.
