    What a lovely river (despite tough runoff conditions) and, as always, a most enjoyable video!
    Thank you for the review of that rod - it indeed looks interesting.

      Hey Michael! It was about the most fun I've had during a runoff day, that's for sure! I plan to get back there this summer and I'm so excited to see how this place looks when it's all lush and green. Thanks for watching as always my friend.

    Using your discount code, I just snagged me a Yari. Thanks for code. I have never owned a Tenkara but have a dozen or so fly rods. I have always wanted a Tenkara but just never pulled the trigger. I can't wait to use it here locally in Lousiana on bream, white perch, and bass. What a beautiful river. I love fishing New Mexico and Southern Colorado. My wife and I would make annual pilgrimages out west to flyfish, usually spending a month and a half on the road. I have a couple of special places in Idaho where this rod will shine. Is that the Piedra? Never mind.....don't give it away. What a great day.

      So glad! You're in for a treat. I've lost track of how many rods I now own and as long as I don't need a bigger rod for bigger fish, it's by far my favorite to use. I'd recommend testing it on bream and smaller fish first before you ease into any potentially bigger fish! And definitely use 5x or 6x tippet!

      @@FlickyFlies Thank you for the reply. Yea, I am even a bit worried about some of our chinquapin bream we have down here in Louisiana. It is not uncommon at all to get into some 1-2 pounders and they fight. Our crappie can go as high as 4lbs. It is not uncommon to get into serious numbers of 2 pounders. I hope this rod can handle them. I will definitely not go larger than 6X. Can hardly wait.

      @@WayneTheSeine Awesome! I caught a 2-3 pound brown trout (about 18 inches) in a tiny creek on this rod, but it wasn't the tool for the job. With that said, damn was it fun!! As long as you keep the tippet light until you learn the ins and outs of how this rod handles I think you'll do great!

      Adam! You're the only other person on Earth with one of those flies shown in the video! I must say, it worked very well, and considering that the water levels should be pretty high up there I think that's a great choice. Please report back, and enjoy your day up there!

      Honored to have it! I started the day with that as my dropper under a dry I tied yesterday. Seems it was a little flashy for the cool temps. I switched to the rainbow warrior and ended the day with a mess of beautiful brookies! All in all - it’s refreshing to get back out on the water. Feeling good!

    My first tenkara rod come from Amazon, but now over the last few years been using Dragontail rods(8).
    Their were the first tenkara company I come across so been buying rods. I'm not your regular tenkara fisherman, fish for panfish, Largemouths and smallmouths.
    Pretty rod tho👍

      Dragontail is a great company! Can't go wrong! I love getting into some warm water species and plan to target them some more in the future. Lot's of video ideas floating around in my head. Everglades, cypress swamp camping, smallmouth rivers, pretty panfish in crystal clear Texas creeks. Hopefully I can make them all happen eventually. Thanks for watching my friend!

      The American ones tend to be a bit hardier for sure! Dragontail, Wasatch, and TRC all have rods that I've used and loved. Need to try a Tenkara USA rod one of these days.

      You Certainly should! Start with the SATO and then the RHODO and then the ITO. I have an overzealous collection of T rods, and TUSA is really up there for American Rods. Good Luck! I looked on the TRC website and am not seeing the Yari being offered. Thanks for the video!@@FlickyFlies

    Japanese rod! That’s the way to go! Getting one soon I think! My trc Teton is my go to for now! Sun tech for Keiru! Tite lines!

    • @FlickyFlies
      @FlickyFlies  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Teton has a really nice action if you wanna tight line with some tungsten nymphs, while still being able to cast dries / unweighted flies. I really like that rod. Versatile. I kinda like the really specialized rods too … def want to get a Kurenai someday. Would have been great for the size fish in this video, perhaps with a bit less current ideally. Thanks for watching!

  • @tenkaraintheiowadriftless
    @tenkaraintheiowadriftless ปีที่แล้ว

    Good rod specs; however, I’m not a fan of rods that are brightly colored for their entire length. In my experience they’re more apt to spook fish in slower water, especially against a clear blue sky.

    • @FlickyFlies
      @FlickyFlies  ปีที่แล้ว

      As a TH-camr I have some unusual desires in a rod, one of which is making it bright so that it can be seen on videos and thumbnails, lol! I 100% get your point, however, and largely agree. It is quite a beautiful rod though, that sunflower yellow has always been one of my favorite colors. Also, in the places I fish I don't *think* I notice a difference between colorful rods and all black rods, for example. It could be differences in our regions as well. I know the driftless can be pretty spooky. Thanks for watching and commenting as always!

      Lots of people do, although many in the fly fishing community are there strictly for catch and release. If it's legal where you're fishing, go for it!
