Most modern cars more or less have lower HC and CO than the ambient air. That was a big help for reducing things like smog. Many areas in California would have atrocious smog year round. As you said, CO2 is just a proxy for fuel economy. Atmospheric CO2 concentrations are going up, and most scientists believe it's from burning fossil fuels - hence the push to reduce CO2 production.

But yet if you look at chart's that have Not been cherry picked, the temps are not inline with the small increase. C02 is a natural product. Plants need it to live. Last I heard of some real numbers,Co2 isn't but 0.04 percent Total. Plants start to die at 0.02 percent. We are being lied to.

Anybody that accepts anything that politicians, their “experts”,or the media says at face value is an idiot and deserves whatever they get. (The problem is the rest of us in society get dragged along and our lives are affected by it). These are the so called “useful idiots”,those incapable or too lazy to excercise critical thinking skills, looking for someone to follow and a cause to champion to give their lives meaning that give these morons their power.
Fear is an an extremely powerful weapon in propaganda. Whip people into a frenzy with fear over something and tell them you have the answers and you own them and can sell them anything. they will willingly let you control them and take away their rights if they believe it it’s for their own good. People willingly lined up to have themselves injected with an experimental chemical cocktail that was rushed into production, not knowing or caring what the possible long term side effects and health ramifications would be. Our “leaders” and their “experts” know beat and said it’s for the greater good, right? Our leaders are all altruists without hidden agendas who have our only best interests at heart.

In fact, I removed the brand new, pretty expensive, but crappy Nissens (considered as quality manufacturer) one from my Audi 80 and put back the 35yrs old original, after a vice grip treatment.

I like my motorbike from 2006, which still has a carburetor engine and no catalytic convert, as one of the last years where this was common. The exhaust just goes straight out. Love it, especially since in Germany bikes are exempt from "green zones" in cities regarless of emissions. It only needs to emit less than 4,5 % CO on inspections, and the last measured values was 0,2 % so it actually runs quite clean.

It took a while for the heavy duty vehicles to get overdrive transmissions w/ lock up torque converters. The big 3 had to build up beefier transmissions before the could be reliably installed for the loads an HD truck would handle.
Even still, most owners manuals told you to push the button on the shifter, or drop it into drive when pulling a heavy trailer.

  • @rogerknapman1260

Interesting video. Shangp does teach quite a lot here. I don't see how people are drawing such weird conclusions from this. CO2 isn't a pollutant in small amounts, but in huge amounts it a problem. Same as sugar in your diet. You cant poison someone with sugar in small amounts, but in large quantity over time it is a problem.
I think the calculation that air weighs 14.7 pounds is wrong. It has 14.7 psi at sea level. Pounds per square inch. We are worried about volume here. So like 302 cbic inches maybe? Or 4943 cc (5 liters) for ever two revolutions of the engine times volumetric efficiency, etc.
The point as Shango makes it, every gallon of gas consumed will cause a predictable output in CO2. Less fuel consumption is better. Many ways to address this, but people have bad behavior and buying criteria. Electric cars aren't great, but probably incrementally better in most cases.

  • @MrJDNJ
    @MrJDNJ ปีที่แล้ว +1

Your exhalation CO2 was made as a result of your body's processing of the food you eat. Plants took the CO2 out of the air to produce the food, and you put it back when you breathe. That's why human-produced CO2 is not considered a (hazardous) addition to atmospheric CO2 levels, but more of an equation balance of the carbon cycle.

Just yesterday, a video popped up in my TH-cam feed about repair of the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) on C5 Corvettes. The model years on these were 1997-2004. Apparently notorious for going bad and dealers want $1700 to replace them. What causes them to go bad is 4 or 5 solder points on the pcb which, on inspection, are apparent. The thing is nasty to remove and get the cover off, but worth the effort. Unfortunately the videos only show the bottom of the board and not what is on top. I keep wondering if there are capacitors in there.

CO2 emission in the exhaust isn't totally the problem. It's the net change in the total CO2 footprint. As long as we burn fossil fuels we are releasing carbon that was sequestured eons ago back into the atmosphere. IF on the other hand we burn renewable fuels such as bio diesel, ethanol, or other plant derived fuels we are releasing carbon that was recently removed from the atmosphere by the plants from which the fuel was made. In other words, the closed loop process would be carbon neutral. That is it WOULD be, if the process of growing the plants for fuel, and refining them into fuel was done WITHOUT the use of fossil fuel to produce the required energy. This means switching to solar, wind, hydro, geo-thermal, or other some other carbon neutral energy source for the production of bio fuels. The same applies to electric cars, we need to make the batteries (from mining the raw materials, processing the chemicals, and running the factories) using only carbon neutral energy. Otherwise we are only fixing the 'last mile' of the energy chain by switching from ICE cars to electric. (And I didn't mention where the power to charge the batteries comes from). In the end, ditching ICE power might end up making only a small difference in the carbon footprint. However more efficient cars (hybrids) that can use less fossil fuels to go further, will improve the issue. The Toyota Corolla hybrid I now have uses as much gas as three of the first car I ever had back in 1977.
Oh and your comparing yourself as a source of CO2 by breathing into the probe was funny (you should have tried farting into it). But people burn bio fuels, so we are carbon neutral. Not a problem.

When I was doing emission/drivability/e-check as mechanic/technician, had always appreciated the "high" co2 value as an indicator of perfect emission control.
What the zeitgeist fails to mention is that vegetation thrives on co 2, which is using sheep ignorance to instill fear for living as a car bon-based entity. But more greenery is getting paved over every year rather than being replanted. Just sayin....

You communicated very clearly! What you said about CO 2 emissions is 100% correct. You also correctly stated that several of the initiatives being undertaken to reduce CO 2 emissions. One you did not mention which is not related directly to vehicle emissions are reduction of animals meant for human consumption that produce carbon dioxide and also gas such as methane. This can apply to cow's sheep, et. Cetera. The United Nations is proposing that insects be used as a human food replacement for meats because of this. Right wing conspiracy theorists are making too much out of this, because they think the intent is to eliminate meat production. In some ways the answer to that question is yes, but in some ways it is not, because some European countries have adopted methods that the UN considers to be OK, at least for now, in terms of how meat is produced. We can argue all day about whether that's a valid solution or not but that's what's going on. Also CO2 production by humans breathing is starting to be thought of as another statictic to prove the earth is overpopulated.

These trucks have two temperature sensors. One for inside the truck and one for the ECU.
The ECU sensor is near the ignition module and distributor. The one for the gauge is in the drivers head above the exhaust manifold.
This is why there was no check engine light even when the gauge was not working.

I'd love to know what the tailpipe difference between EGR connected and not on my 91 Benz diesel.

    • @btwbrand
      @btwbrand ปีที่แล้ว

Take away the EGR on your Benz and the result will be High Nox.
The EGR is designed to reduce the heat of the burning fuel. Take away oxygen ( EGR on ) and fuel burns slower with less heat.
So when your EGR is working the temperature of the burn is lower. This reduces the chance for Nitrogen ( which is about 80% of the air going into the engine) from combining under high heat with Oxygen. That's the Nox value on the right of his analyzer screen.
Volkswagon got in trouble for running their diesels with high combustion temperatures which made great fuel mileage and very low emissions everywhere except for Nox which was high.
Nox makes smog when sunlight breaks it apart.

A higher CO2 concentration just makes plants grow better. Plant life is keeping the atmosphere's CO2 levels in check. Since huge areas of the world are now deforested, it's harder for that little left-over plant life here and there to keep up, so we're measuring higher levels.
A forest retains soil and moist. It also regulates temperature and breaks the wind. A forest is the best tool to keep the climate in check. It uses CO2 from the atmosphere and water, works on solar energy and it outputs oxygen and construction materials.

The engine and gauge use separate temperature sensors for water temperature on these ford trucks. Guage sensor is above the exhaust manifold on the driver side and the ECU uses one near the distributor. If the ECU sees the engine overheating it will turn on check engine light, if it reaches 255F it will depower the truck into a limp mode and you'll be lucky to drive 35mph.

To break even vs an ICE I would need to double my amount of driving or keep an EV like 8-10 years. But it's enticing that I could put some panels on my roof to make my own fuel (at least some of it) vs buying it from an extortioner cartel.

Something to think about, you mentioned methane and trying to eliminate it.
There's been developments made to run vehicles off of methane.
A Canadian farmer has been running his vehicles off of it for quite some time now, but it's locking government approval, so it's technically illegal but completely doable.
It's definitely a usable fuel that would help the environment in the long run.
Since we all know electric cars are more harmful to the environment than gasoline or diesel.

    • @rogerknapman1260

The total amount of CO2 in our atmosphere is 0.04%! If we do nothing the climate controllers want us to do ,100 years
from now it will be 0.05 %. Seems pretty insignificant to me. Just keeping growing green plants and trees and we will be
OK. The e caps are goners and surprised the truck ever started. Once replaced the truck seems to work good once again.
But it has others issues as Shango shows . Radiator, hoses, oil pressure and temperature sending units. On the testing of emissions; it passes CA state tests. All good for a 32 year old vehicle. Appreciate a video like this Shango but change the radiator out ASAP or it will really be a F.O.R.D. Found On Road Dead.
