  • Special thanks to Charlie for suggesting a good way to turn the sharp radius at the top of the door. Worked like a charm. I learned a lot about turning flanges and wish I could go back in time to apply that knowledge on this door, but unfortunately my time travel machine is in the shop.

    Nice progress Mike.
I noticed on the top crease that you had a problem with tool marks and i wonder if the tool was a bit too narrow? I have a 2" and a 4" bolster; I found the 4" one didn't leave any marks on aluminium when hit gently. Might help you for the LH door.
Also, where you have to fold the seam on the top curve, what I have observed on Land Rover door skins might help. Rover used a 1/2" flange but when it comes to a tight curve, they narrowed the flange to about 1/4" or less. This alllows the metal to be tapped over with a hammer and dolly and does not require and tucks to be made.
I am really enjoying your work, cheers.

Wow, Mike. It’s looking really good. I really appreciate all you’re doing to document and video your build. It’s a great resource for me and will help me significantly when I finally have time & empty space to redo my TR. It needs a lot. knowing that you’re not too far away is also reassuring. Thanks again!

@@mikeg5877 If the stars aligned for that to happen, that would be incredible. my mother would tip over to have someone drive into her driveway in a TR3A. A 58 TR3A and the TR3B that is now mine were all she and dad drove for several years after they were first married. Pretty certain yours will be done before mine.

wouldn't been easier to just do a lower door skin and weld it to the upper? luckily my doors and rust free but the left hand door has a crease in it from opening too far I will have to fix.

Haha... thanks Mike, but I wanted the challenge of making my own full skins since I also want to make the front fenders. Stubborn SOB is what my favorite wife refers to me as ;-)
