    • Wireless LEDs & How to...
    Been seeing ads for wireless LED boards for Gunpla and tabletop terrain, but I wanted a cheaper option. Check out how I used an old iPhone charger to power my Gundam model kit LED lights wirelessly, with no batteries, using induction coils.

    I also tested this unit with an old Nintendo DS charging cable (5.2v 320mA) and it worked without burning the house down.

    Man that is so cool. this could give the the ability to have lots of LEDs and keep articulation. i saw something very similar a long while ago but it was $200 and reviews werent good. my hopes are high the bigger one will be powerful enough and have enough range to run all the thrusters of a MG Sazabi.

  • @LuisRodriguez-vt3kj

    This is a great idea! I didn't know about induction LEDs.
    Would it be possible to daisy chain the lights? For examble, wrap around some wire (maybe copper wire?) to one of the lights, install it in let's say, the thigh, then wire it to the light in the shoulder, and so on to connect all the lights in the body? I'm asking because if I use the coil at the model's feet, the lights in the rest of the body may be too var from it to be affected.

    • @MidnightHatter
      @MidnightHatter  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Glad you asked! I have actually been trying to figure out how to achieve more distance from the coil. The coil that is wrapped around the LED is actually what picks up the current, so in theory you could take a coil of copper wire with long strands connected to the LED might work. Or maybe a capacitor wrapped in wire that can store a charge to carry to the LED. Once I find a solution I will definitely share it!

  • @nikohiroyagami8377

    That is cool. Is it possible if the circular shape of wire and make it other shape. For example i make it like oblong with customize shape.

    • @MidnightHatter
      @MidnightHatter  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s possible to bend the coil into any shape but it loses some efficiency depending on the shape. The lights will be dimmer in certain spots

    Can the induction ring be reshaped to fit in a HG/MG Action Base?

  • @TheSilverwolf97
    @TheSilverwolf97 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If my electromagnetism is still decent I remember that you can stack multiple coils and give them power to have a larger field. Alternatively you can cut that coil and roll it making a stacked coil with a smaller radius and try to put it somewhere in the figure itself. Correct me if I'm wrong in my theory I would like to try it myself.

    • @MidnightHatter
      @MidnightHatter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your understanding sounds better than mine. All I know is fork in the outlet goes brrrr.
      But seriously, I think you are correct, and the diameter of the copper used in the coil itself can create a more powerful field. I’m definitely willing to give it a shot.

    I wanna try doing this with my MG RX-78-2 The Origin kit (the one where you can actually put an LED in it). How big of a coil would I need to make it work and also, can this work on a PG kit as well?

    • @MidnightHatter
      @MidnightHatter  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure they’ll work in any kit you can fit them in. They are a tad chunkier than standard LEDs so you may have to cut out some space. You will have a hard time working with the range of the coil. Even the larger 24v coil has a pretty limited range. I’m trying to find a way to separate the actual light from the coil so you can hide the copper coil in the foot or something but put the LED in the head connected by thin wires. So far, unsuccessful.

  • @zerephvidar6621
    @zerephvidar6621 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi! Do you think the coil will affect the kit if it has a metal frame?

    • @SanativeSparrow
      @SanativeSparrow ปีที่แล้ว

      The coil can barely move any noticeable electricity through your body when close or even touched, if that is a concern. There will be no I'll effects for these led lights touching a metal frame, either, since the current will find the led circuit easier to complete than running through the metal frame.

  • @salvatorepisano4078
    @salvatorepisano4078 ปีที่แล้ว

    Where do they sell a larger coil if I want to use these on something larger. So that if the coils on the ground it will light something about 12 inches above it

    • @MidnightHatter
      @MidnightHatter  ปีที่แล้ว

      That may be a bit too far out of range even for the 24v coil. Depending on the application, I'd consider hiding coils in scenery. Like with the hangar in the video I have a coil on the bottom and one in the wall which covers 95% of the lights in that field.

  • @liemposhake2591
    @liemposhake2591 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hi have you tried if it fits realgrade kits ?

    • @MidnightHatter
      @MidnightHatter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't, but I worry it will not be as easy as a master grade since fitting HG kits required a lot of cutting and chiseling to make space.
      Short answer; it will fit but you're going to lose a lot of articulation.

  • @derekcd4740

    How easy do you think it would be to install these into an mg unicorn specifically the full armor so it doesn’t interfere with the transformation

    • @MidnightHatter
      @MidnightHatter  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can't say for sure. I don't have that kit myself, but I think it would be possible. They are only slightly larger than most wired LEDs.

  • @NimOCE
    @NimOCE 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I wonder if this can be scaled up to be effective in say 1 meter X 2 meter applications.

    • @MidnightHatter
      @MidnightHatter  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      According to the little research I've done, the coil on the actual LED would have to be several centimeters in diameter but yes, in theory they could be modified to work up to a meter away, but maybe they'd be more difficult to hide.

    Anyway to get blinking or fading leds?

    • @MidnightHatter
      @MidnightHatter  ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly. The trick there would be to add some kind of control unit (like an Arduino) to the induction coil. Basically you'd be controlling the flow of electricity to the coil instead of directly to the LEDs.
