As a Cadet, I flew many times with 57 sqn on tiger force training sorties, taking off from East Kirkby at dusk and returning 5 or 6 hours later, Two things bother me, I cannot remember where the ground/flight switch was, and in the near darkness how did the pilot find the correct dispersal pad out of 30 or more? I never saw a follow me jeep.
Nothing legendary about the Lancaster .. more yellow and coward like .. failed utterly in day time raids and had to seek hiding and "safety" in the dark of the night .... doing nothing to improve or make it suitable for daytime sorties .. yes it could lift more than the other 4 engine bombers but at what price .. self defence and protection .. and I'm pretty sure the Air Ministry didn't share all information to the 8'th and 25'th Air Force about the axis air power before they had to learn them self .. pretty convenient to let the biggest war production country learn their own lesson .. while hiding in the dark .. with their bean spitting .303 on the Lanc .. Pretty sure the Air Ministry was very happy about the 8'th USAAF participating aka doing all the day time raids suffering up to 16 - 18 % casualties, but hailing out that they did do the Merlin, the Griffin, having Frank Whittle (who didn\t do anything to the ending of the war effort) .. but hey ... "we gave them Airfields, Eggs, Laundry service and Ladies to fc.k" .. what did they need more .. those Yanks coming with Coca Cola, SPAM, instant coffee, dried Eggs (fet top the pigs) Hersey bars and MONEY!! ?? Funny thing is .. the victorious parts in a war always speaks the truth ... PLEASE LOOK UP THE DOCU FILM 'HELLSTORM' !!!! what a shame. that the Germans shifted to bombing London instead of keeping on the airfields for just a couple of weeks more in autum 1940.. then RAF would be have been forced "out of the game" in main parts of britain, then the remaining spit .. and don't forget the Hurricane, a formidable airplane ... would meet the bf109 on equal terms, both taking of from the same grounds, the 3 southern UK RAF groups area or more, for a short while until whole England/UK would be under German rule .. all before Pearl Harbour .. how would middle east look like ? How would the far east look like ? without the UK, still seeing the axis powers (forget Mussolini He could get Africa to play his opera army in) but Germany / Japan in the far east .... We would use our raised right hand for greeting the elite today .... or both hands and shouting 'Banzai" In all .. maybe it good how the history played off???? .. OR NOT!!! seeing all the sh.t UN and EU are making regarding "so called refugees" .. in North America .. In EU .. never has history seen such a blunder, cowardly and wrong access to the happenings decades, CENTURIES ago!!!! MAKING TODAY'S 'SURVIVORS' RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GREAT .. GREAT .. GRAND .. PARENTS from Africa being brought to that time USA (and that of cause has to bother the whole rest of the wold .. IRONY OCCURS ) yes I had a great great grand parent being Captain on a ocean going 4 mast ship going out from Hamburg .. picking up slaves from Africa to the West Indies .. bringing home spices and sugar .. BUT THAT DON'T MAKE ME RESPONSIBLE for what he did .. 150+ years ago ... So fc.k black life matters?????? .. BUT get your fc..king american, AND BRITISH!!! ass in gear and accept that we are Caucasian, blacks, Asians and a lot of other ethnical people on this earth and we have to exist together for our all benefit .. our well being and SURVIVAL ... @ who the fc.k .. HONESTLY!!!!! I have made love to Dominican Republics, Kenyans, Swedish, Norwegians, Danish, Filipinas, Germans, Austrians, French, Thais, Africans, Americans, Russians, Moldovians and many more .. you know what ????? LOVE, CARE and INTIMACY was the main issues .. the main way .. the main word of understanding ... I LOVE you .. I care about you ... Ground flight switch would have been on the right wall just in front of the main wing spar, the dispersal I’m not sure.
I relish the Lancaster and Lancashire Relish. Ha ha.
